The distance that the Husker or Bluejay programs have fallen in the last year pales in comparison to the drop-off of USC from Kugler/Severe to now.

I find these conversations boring. Both teams are having abysmal seasons so far so who really cares about staking a claim for being the "best of the worst"?

They gotta talk about something.  Can you imagine being an Omaha sports talk radio host right now during this basketball season trying to come up with something to talk about?

 

Yep, the Bluejays continue to be horrible.  And things aren't much better in Lincoln.  But there's only 9 days until pitchers and catchers report, so ... stay tuned for THAT!!!

I can't believe that the last game was able to boil down their season into 5 seconds.

Those guys might compare the season to the Rick Johnson era but that's not even close. They just lived through a vintage Collier/Sadler era season. Time to bond with that guy at work in regards to that.

• Competing against mid-majors for players
• Finding out the guys you grab that are athletic enough for your conference might not be as skilled as you want
• wanting the coach to do well because you like him as a person
• wondering if he can pull in the talent

Yeah, the Rick Johnson era they were like 10-22 w/ only 2,000 fans attending games.

I don't think there are questions about the coaching. There are definitely questions about the talent level. Everyone who played this year besides Brooks, Milliken, and Kreklow were recruited for the Valley. The coaching staff agrees - no open scholarships but we are still offering JUCO players

 

Questions about whether Coach mac can recruit - that's debatable. Personally, I am a bit skeptical. We couldn't land a single coveted high school guy the staff went hard after. I'm high on Harrell, Marlon Stewart, and Khryi Thomas. Cautiously optimistic about Patton. The Euro guy is a complete question mark. We will know a lot more about Mac's skills as a recruiter next year

Creightion does deserve a good deal of credit for hanging in there this year.  Bluejay fans could be proud of the ballclub at the end of the season for fighting the good fight, much like several seasons we have dealt with in the last 20 years like people have mentioned.

Yeah, royal, I think it's fair to give them credit for that.  They kept it close pretty much every game.  Lotta losses but quite a few of them they were within a point or two in the final minutes. 

 

Next year might be a little tough as they try to blend in a bunch of new guys.  Even highly touted new guys, when there aren't a lot of veterans coming back, can take awhile to mesh.

Jays have a foreign trip this year just like your boys.  Hoping that helps the team mesh a bit and get the season rolling right from the start.

True, and that might help a little bit, but it still takes awhile for guys to feel out their roles and tendencies relative to the other players once the games go live.  So, even though I think Andrew White is going to be a major contributor for us, I still think it's going to take some time for him and the rest of everyone to figure out how all the pieces fit together.  And that's true whether Petteway returns or not.  Perhaps especially true if Petteway returns.

 

The foreign trip will probably help that.  The flip side of those foreign trips is that, come late February, players might be getting a bit burned out.  But when you have a lot of new pieces, I think it certainly helps on the front end to get everybody on the same page.
