Surely, if we wiff on the one above, we could get one of these CC guys to occupy space in the middle next season!

Question: I have often wondered why NU has never to my knowledge gotten any JC players from Western Nebraska to play for us?

WNCC hasnt produced the same level of talent as some of the CC in Kansas, Cali, Iowa, Texas, or Florida.

and for the players above the only one truly on Nebraska's radar is Matthew Atewe.

Forget about Sam Edwards.  I looked into him once because, wow, 7 footer being looked at by those schools, etc.  It appears to be all smoke and mirrors.  Don't think the kid is a legit prospect.  I was never able to find anything solid on him other than people laughing about the notion that he's a big time recruit.

Sam Edwards was a Doc recruit and I don't think we're pursuing him anymore. Anyone else know anything to the contrary?

Not sure that's true, ajb.  I was reading that we extended the offer in April 2012, after Doc was long gone.  (Well, still attending spring football practices, but long gone from Devaney.)  My guess is that it might not have been a commitable offer and may since have been withdrawn.  Last scouting report I read said:

Sam is a VERY raw prospect, who hasn’t progressed as many hoped he would over the last couple years.

As the saying goes, you can’t coach size, and at 7’ plus Edwards has garnered a host of offers, and is receiving interest from many more.

Right now Sam doesn’t possess any sort of go to move when matched up with anyone close to his size, and he has a hard time running the floor if the tempo picks up much.

If Sam can develop a couple good post moves, and improve on his conditioning, the offers and interest will continue to build. Bottom line is some high major will most likely take a shot at Edwards knowing he is a project, but the upside if he pans out by junior or senior year is huge and worth it to some programs.

When you say 'extended the offer' do you mean an initial offer or do you mean that Miles came in and extended the offer that was initially given by Doc? The info I have read says we offered him as of August 2011 which would have been Doc.

I'll defer to you.  I was reading something on a message board that I had found where it said, in April 2012, that Nebraska had (recently?) been added to his list of offers.  So, I guess I don't know.  Seemed like a strange thing to report after Doc had left if it was an offer made by Miles.  Perhaps the offer was rescinded when we found Sergej?  But you might be right.

Just as an aside, I had mentioned in another thread a while back that I know we're recruiting a few bigs in the 2014 class down here.  One of them is a 6'10" center - Elbert Robinson.  He is taking an unofficial to Georgetown this weekend.  We really need to get him to Lincoln - sooner rather than later - if we want any chance at him.

After watching him in the game against Hawkins I really dont see him fitting the style of offense Miles wants to run.  I think he would end up being the "Andre Almeida" to what type of center Miles is looking for when comparing him to Pitchord, Atewe, Vucetic, etc.  Seems he wants a leaner, more athletic 5 that can be on the smaller side if need be but can run the floor.

Minnesota had a guard out of Western Nebraska CC a couple of years ago.  If I recall right I think his name was Bobby Jackson, he went on to the NBA.   I don't believe we recruited him, or if we did we were in on him late.

More than a couple of years ago ( I know, you didn't mean it literally ).   Pretty sure he was the same class and therefor on the same JC team out there with Bernard Garner ( mentioned above ).  I think Bernard's Sr year here was the year before we last made the tournament.

Here are a few names from various sources. Some of this comes from BigTexHusker.

Tory Miller, PF

New Hampton, New Hampshire

New Hampton Prep

AAU: KC Run GMC

College Choices, Neb, CSU, Marq, PSU

•             Ht: 6'8"

•             Wt: 247 lbs

•             Class: 2014 (High School)

Elbert Robinson, PF

Garland, Texas

Lakeview Centennial

AAU: LBA Seawolves

•             Ht: 6'10"

•             Wt: 280 lbs

•             Class: 2014 (High School)

Huge body, but soft. Has made a lot of strides in past season and a half. Didn't even play varsity his freshman year, but has developed into a rare big with soft hands, great balance, and good feet. He's a project at this point (as most bigs are), and he plays for a low-profile outfit in the summers, which bodes well for us. He's still carrying a ton of "baby fat" and is soft, but that seems to be changing some. I know for a fact he's giving the Huskers serious consideration and would fit well in B1G.

David Wacker, C

Universal City, Texas

Judson

•             Ht:6'9"

•             Class:2014 (High School)

Not as big as Elbert, but WAY more polished offensively and is already aware of how to use his strength to gain advantages. He still has a bunch of room to gain weight/muscle and because he's fairly skilled, that makes him attractive. He could end up a face up/pick and pop dominant player because he can already shoot from deep. Likewise, he's also got a body/game that would play well in the B1G.

Ben Lammers, C

San Antonio, Texas

Alamo Heights

•             Ht:6'8"

•             Class:2014 (High School)

More of a skilled 4 IMO, but still has the size and game to help. Could end up a lot like Ubel. Where the other two are more centers, he's got enough high post/perimeter experience that he could play alongside either and not skip a beat. Actually he and Wacker have played together in the summers and have been fun to watch. He probably is the most natural of the three, but not as big. Has long arms and is pretty smooth. I've seen our coaches in the stands watching all three at one point or another.

Others:

•             Leon Gilmore, PF (Manvel)

•             Tyler Wideman, PF (St. John, IND (Lake Central))

Right now, he's just an unranked 3 star.  But he holds offers from braniac places like Boston U., Brown, Vanderbilt and Yale, as well as from Purdue, Northwestern, Seton Hall, Temple, Rutgers, Maryland, Iowa State and Kansas State.

I would note that Iowa State and Kansas State both have a lot of offers out to all kinds of players three stars or better for 2014.

He's a decent shot blocker but from videos I've just finished watching, he needs to work on his on-ball defense a bit.  When he guards people on the floor, he has a tendency not to move his feet and beat them to the spot but instead try to bump them with his chest as they drive by him.  Bad habit.  Needs fixed.  But a very skilled kid who has very good size and is a really smart basketball player.

I'd take him over the Ptooey kid any day.

This kid isn't in the Rivals top 150, which surprises me because Eliason was and so was Hill.  This kid shows so much more than they did when I saw them in HS.  A lot more athletic than either and I'd say more skilled as well.

edited to add:  Then again, he might be in the Rivals top 150 but I can't find a link to the rankings that works.  His profile says he's unranked but then at verbalcommits.com it says he's in the Rivals top 150 at #130, so I don't know what to think.
