Apparently Prince has twisted her ankle. Walking around in a boot. Will she play today ?

Nope, not in uniform and no boot

Absolutely no point in playing her today if she isn’t 100% healthy. If we need Prince in order to beat Southeastern Louisiana, it’s gonna be a long season.

I guess it's "Defense Optional Saturday" for the home team in Lincoln.  Not a good effort on that end.  SLU's quickness is making NU look foolish.  Maybe they need to go to a zone because they can't stop them 1 on 1 and the pick-and-roll is killing them.

Sloppy with the ball again on offense.  Good thing 3 pointers were going in or this would be a double-digit deficit.  NU's significant size advantage has been taken away by SLU.  Markowski was almost a complete non-factor.

2nd half:  Pretty good defensive adjustments and much better intensity.  SLU looks to be pretty good but NU really shouldn't go down to the wire against that kind of team.  Maybe a bit of a wake-up call which hopefully will be a good thing as the season goes on.

I am not sure the best team won today.  I was impressed with SEL and how they executed both against man and they diced up our zone.  We all know that quickness is going to hurt us but I was surprised that their big girl neutralized Markowski.  Two factors won the game for us, excellent three point shooting 14/29 and our depth may have worn them down.

-Potts is our key player, she wants to win

-Hake played solid

-Weidner was not on her game

-Berte R played well

-Bozan continues to impress

-Alexis was not dominate on the boards

Good test and without Prince.  Hopefully we step forward.

Southeastern Louisiana was a pretty good basketball team.  Well coached and they played inspired and hard basketball.  They had exceptional interior passing and went to the glass hard.

On defense, they had a couple strong interior player and whenever the ball went to Markowski they brought down a guard to double.  But in doing that, we were able to kick the ball out for some great looks on the perimeter.  They were quick on the outside and rather big and physical on the inside.  Honestly, I was impressed.

We played much better ball in the second half.  Good adjustments were made at half and we played with better tempo.

If we have a weakness right now, it is our ability to handle quick guards.  We seemed to adjust to that quickness in the second half.

**  Potts is quicker and much more confident this year.  If she continues to improve on the perimeter  she is going to elevate to a whole new level of play.

** Caitlin did a good job handling the ball today.  She has definitely improved her handles from last season.

** If there is a tougher individual in this State than AW I would be honored to meet him/her.  There is no way she is 100%.  No way.  Yet she is out on the court giving it her all.  You can see and feel her pain.  Every time she goes down, I hold my breath.  What a trooper.

** We need Britt on the floor...get well soon!

**  Folks, we got ourselves a good one with Bozan!  Just think, she has only been in the US and our team for a few months...just wait until her knowledge catches up with her talent!

I was thinking that Southeastern. Louisiana was a cupcake and would be a total pushover. I was wrong. They played much much more competitively than I thought they would.

Allison Weidner pre ACL's may have been fine against a quick guard but not today. Rimdal showed out today with her overall play. Potts continues to step up her game. Hake stepped up when we needed her today with Allison slowed and no Prince. Yes, our coaches did there homework on Bozan after not getting a 4/5 in the portal. With Prince it might have been over sooner but good to have them learn to step up when we have a player out. This type of game should help us down the road.

Agree.  Perhaps the team had those same thoughts.

Took my 2 oldest to there first husker game today and the environment was a lot of fun for them, really got into the second half defensive chants when we were trying to will some stops for the skers.

Bummed we didn’t get to see prince in a skers uniform today but seeing 14 3s go through the net somewhat made up for it.  Foot speed on the perimeter is going to be a problem again this year unfortunately but post play looks to be improved over last year, they just refused to throw it into the post for most of the first half.  Bozan is gonna be a good one once she figures out the defensive side of the ball, very skilled, good hands, and looks to be all of 6’4” to me.  Rimdal looks like a pretty good option to help fill Shelly’s shoes too.  Everyone stays healthy and we get the right draws 20+ wins and a chance at a sweet 16 seem in play.

First, I don't recall having seen many opponent teams as quick and as fast all across the roster as was SELA yesterday. Huskers were consistently out quicked and outrun.  Many rebounds were seemingly in the hands of a Husker before being swiped away by a pair of quick hands connected to a pair of really fast feet.

Hake was a warrior out there, controlling the pace, getting the ball upcourt before opponents' quickness closed in on us, and getting the ball to teammates for open shots. Her defense was best yet. She doesn't seem to run out of gas.

I loved the persistent urgency and intensity of the entire second half in trying to keep up with a team shooting such at such a high percentage - near 60% well into halftime.

Potts:  She said her summer work especially included improving her 3 point shot. Looks like mission accomplished so far. If she can keep that around the 35% level, she will have it all as an offensive threat. She can post up and score close in, and pull up and score at mid range, and she can drive and score and draw fouls. Add to that the ability to set up and score from beyond the arc and she will be even more of an opponent coaches' head ache.

Rimdal: Fits right in. Looks as tho she has been playing in this system and with these teammates for years.

Nissley:  Fleet feet. Yaaay!

Weidner:  Effective, but not (yet I hope)  100%.

Bozan:  What a nice surprise!  Several of us on here, myself included, were bemoaning the lack of having found, either thru recruiting or the portal, another big especially given that this is AM's last year. And then along came Petra. Interesting that so early in the season she got more minutes at important game moments than did Petrie.  She could turn into a very potent scoring threat. As to her size - she and AM are both listed as 6-3.  I thought I noticed this in the National Anthem lineup last game but didn't pay close enough attention.  Yesterday I focused on it. She stands next to AM in that line and the top of AM's head looks to match up to the bridge of PB's nose They are not the same height.

Someone else noted that we ‘lack perimeter quickness again.’  Yes, AGAIN.  Is it that difficult to recruit a couple of legit D1-quick backcourt players?  Don’t believe Williams has ever done that, prioritizing instead athletic midwestern shooters whose games don’t translate because they have trouble getting their shots off or playing good D against good D1 competition.  And no, Williams’ daughter is not likely to be an exception when healthy.

Since we don’t have any truly notable defenders, seems to me we should give most of the minutes to the players who are at least average defensively through hustle AND can score, i.e., Potts, Markowski, Bozan, Prince, Hake, Nissley, Rimdal and maybe Hargrove (sample size too small).  Coley and Petrie aren’t playing much anyway, and the minutes of Moriarity are largely wasted.  Sadly, the same may be true for Weidner, who now seems to be at best an average defender and below average scorer due to lost quickness.

Don’t mean to sound totally negative.  Potts, Bozan, Prince, Nissley and maybe Hargrove are a promising nucleus for the future.  As for this year, the 7-8 players noted above, properly utilized and avoiding injury, can probably win 20-21 games and make the tourney given our ridiculously easy ooc schedule.  This seems to be the ‘rinse and repeat’ ceiling for Williams’ teams.

...and Petrie actually stands with a slight slump.  I suggest she is about 2 inches taller than AM.  When she walked past me she looked young, tall and athletic.

No doubt we have quickness issues on the exterior.   Although I am surprised at the quickness that Rimdal exhibited yesterday.  But we have length and physicality that can offset that lack of quickness.  In the league we are in, that may be more important.   For example, I would argue that last year, Iowa did not have quick guards, yet they did okay.  Our guard corp, with Britt healthy, should be a big advantage for us.

By the way, our interior players seemed quicker this year than last.  Potts and Hargrove move very well.   AM has some nice quick moves, and Bozan has good feet.

I think we will be okay.

I mentioned previously after seeing the team picture that I felt she was at 6' 5".  After seeing more of her around her teammates I still feel the same way.  She also is what Amy likes to call "long". That will really help her shot blocking once she gets more playing time experience.

I think Weidner tweaked her knee a little bit. she came to the bench with a slight limp after he got tangled up and fell to floor.

And as for Hake, she has always been a good defensive player. funny how most on this board don't think so though.

I completely agree that her defense is better than average and is at least adequate.  I wonder if she made a bad first impression with some of her play early in her freshman season - being a little slow to adjust to D1 ball.

Hake with 7 assists and only 1 turnover was big for us. Considering their speed even more impressive.

She really had a nice game, considering she was kind of thrown into the main ball-handler role with Prince being out.  She handled the pressure very well.  She's shown consistent improvement from year to year.  She's not typically going to 'wow' you with the stats, but she generally plays contributes in many ways.
