  1. Not knowing the story behind the story, the Walter new sure is a setback in terms of experience next year. Suppose that's why Miles went out of his way to make say Hammond is coming back. If TP doesn't return, it's going to be very inexperienced team. Exciting young talent, but hasn't performed under fire.
  2. Exactly. Make the tournament, win a freakin' game. Any resume with that is acceptable now..
  3. The last 23-year-old college student who got drafted was . . . well, good luck. Your 35-year-old had a track record overseas. TP is going to have to play D league or overseas to get to the NBA. If he returns to NU, it's because of family issues. If he wants to play professionally, he goes. I'm just happy he's ruled out going somewhere else for his final year of college.
  4. So... without directly saying it, you think he's leaving this year, Kamdy? This is the biggest issue. He's never going to be a first-rounder, certainly not by staying another year. It makes sense to stay when you're an underclassmen, not when you've already been in college four years. If he stays, it's to be with his family or (hopefully) because he likes playing here.
  5. I can't predict the future, but regarding Patton's stats, he plays on a team that would probably be 5-22 without him. Guards are not skilled, the second best player in a classic post-up player, so Patton plays offense around the elbow a lot. I think they open at state with Bellevue West, and I'd be shocked if they have fewer than 25 turnovers. The reason Patton is rated so highly is he can not only jump, but he also gets off the ground really quickly. Most big guys take time to power up. As a result, he is an elite rebounder and shot blocker, even though he's thin as a rail. He'll be average if he's expected to be a post-up player in college. But if his offense skills develop fully (I've seen him hit 3s and do spin moves around guards to score), then he's a pro talent. Again, I can't predict the future.
  6. Good explanation. Doc's recruiting was abysmal. Always chasing high risk guys, rarely finding ones who would stay for four years. Collier at least left Maric behind. Doc left zip. Miles is building the roster the right way. Call last year a fluke or whatever, but it allowed him to sell the program to our best recruiting class in who knows how many years. Give him time.
  7. Yeah, I mean, if you hadn't already noticed the markers from ... getting down by double digits in the first half at home against UNO losing at home to Creighton by 10 losing at home to a team transitioning to D1 in Incarnate Word losing pathetically to a not very good Hawaii team laying an egg and getting owned inside at home against Indiana Yeah, I mean, if you happened not to notice all those other markers, then the Michigan game was certainly a sign that, gosh, perhaps something was amiss with the team this season. Yeah, the signs were all there. The Michigan game basically was just them bowing up in the face of adversity. We'd been shown the signs that we weren't a team that could overcome a locked-in team on the road, but we just overlooked them because we were still thinking we were something we weren't.
  8. The 2015 recruits are signed, nothing to worry about. The 2016 recruits? Who knows, they're kids. I give Miles a lot of credit for capitalizing on last season. We're going to have a great class coming in. Just imagine if last year hadn't happened.
  9. +1,000,000. Although I'd much prefer to read whining about the refs over ripping on players.
  10. First off, Sam's a Husker fan so he's not trying shill for Creighton. As for the talent debate, it's really pointless. Creighton has a better 1-10 roster, but they don't have a star. Norman Dale gave his "five men, one ball" speech and the team still struggled until Jimmy Chitwood returned. That's basketball. Both teams have talent deficiencies. Why are we talking about Creighton now anyway? for the love of god, let it go.
  11. Anybody know anything about this? John Gaskins @937JohnGaskins From very first few games, #Huskers players had "their own agendas" & "we're just supposed to win" mentality." -Beau Reid #Nebrasketball
  12. That's it in a nutshell. He is who he is. As long as he wears red, he deserves cheers because we'd be much worse off without him.
  13. Defensively, sure. Sam must have watched just the second half. Yeah, not sure what that even means. Elite effort? We tried hard after getting down by a lot?
  14. Molinari's gotten credit for getting Illinois connections on recruiting, so keep that in mind. As to his effect on the team's offense, it's undeniable. This is the style his teams have always played. His Kenpom defensive ratings the last three years at Western Illinois: 331 (2014), 280 (2013, team won 22 games), 280 (2012). You might blame that on his being at a lower level school, but his defensive rating was 54 in 2013, pretty darn good with the caliber of athletes he would have had. That's the way he played at earlier stop at Bradley as well. Easy to take when you're winning, godawful when you're not.
  15. Not sure why we'd be interested. Clashed with coach and left miseason. I know we need shooters, but . . .
  16. I thought Collier got a bad rap as a recruiter. He made some mistakes his first year or two, but had some players, including Marics. Terrible in-game coach, though, just sucked on a water bottle when things were going bad.
  17. TP's a loose cannon, but he's a team player. Any suggestion we'd be better off without him next year is absurd. Man, it would be nice to win a game to end this stuff.
  18. The silent one, Miles is a TO hire so it wouldn't suprises me that he gets the ax Ridiculous. Miles is a builder, and he's assembling good pieces going forward. But he's playing with a wounded roster right now that includes Doc's leftovers. It's easy to find coaching mistakes every game, but look at what he has to work with.
  19. As a soph so far he is averaging 13 PTS and 7 boards shooting 50 percent from the field. For comparisons sake...the 4* down the road from Omaha North is averaging 13 PTS and 7 boards shooting 29 percent from the field. Strom is more skilled, plays on a very good team. Patton is not as skilled, though skilled for a guy his size, plays on a mediocre team with weak guard play. Both very good players, Patton's upside is higher because of his shot blocking ability. He's easy to downgrade since he's going to the school that will not be named, but he's good.
  20. Yes, the denizens of absolutely every message board in the country wring their hands about how the fans are lame. The only true fans are anonymous message board posters, apparently. But that being said, the concerns about the crowds are legit. They won games for us last year and they helped get our best signing class in recent memory. If the PBA isn't full, we are not the program we thought we had become.
  21. I wonder if our tempo is due to having Jim Molinari on staff. His teams have always played a slow, defensive grinder style.
  22. I don't think this is bad coaching, the roster is just short pieces. TM put together a team last year out of sticks and mud, and I think he can do it again. For as much as Gallegos got ripped, he provided an outside threat that teams had to respect. Don't have that this year, that's why Creighton allowed Benny to stand alone in the corner. Also don't have L. Smith's minutes, and when the guards help on D in the post, it gives opponents' shooters more room. I never for a minute thought this was a top 25 team in the preseason. All of these shortcomings were apparent then. But I also think TM has a chance to piece together something that will work by the time the BIG season starts.
  23. It bears repeating (from myself ), surprising he didn't get better offers. Not surprised he's doing well at UNO.
  24. As someone said, it's a marketing thing, and they're not the first to do it. UW-Milwaukee goes by Milwaukee. I think the idea is that it counters the idea you're a second-tier school. Who knows if any of this works the way it's supposed to, but that's the marketing theory.
  25. Technically there is no such thing as a necessary thread. Ouch. We're trying to escape reality here, imagine that our opinions actually matter!
