  1. I usually am skeptical of highlights since they only show the guy making shots. But IR shows a lot of court vision, seems to really know what's going on around him. Not only looks like the most athletic guy out there, but also the smartest.
  2. I'll confirm That resume is very unexciting, shows no experience in high-level recruiting. And I don't really buy the "he coached Damian Lillard" credit. Guys make themselves into great players. Who can name the assistant at Arizona State when James Harden was there? Hope that wasn't too snarky.
  3. http://www.collegesportsmadness.com/mens-basketball/top-144-previews Top 144 is up to 109, only BIG teams so far are Minnesota at 117 and Penn State at 137.
  4. And that the loss of contacts and momentum from staff turnover is going to hurt us with the class of 2016. I'm not concerned for future years so much as just that we're going to spin our wheels this year. Building on the momentum of 2015 might have been nice.
  5. Probably opening up a can of worms here, but we were really late to the party on him and Jarreau. By the time we offered, they both had already taken an unofficial to (the school that shall not be named) and they both have that school on their final list. It's just hard to believe we've got a cohesive recruiting effort right now with all the staff turnover.
  6. I doubt Thik Bol gets an offer from Gonzaga, although he's a D-1 player. He's not going to put on much weight, but he can definitely play above the rim. I saw him play this summer, and he still lacks the skills to be a high major player. If he were Thik for 3, he'd be getting offers from big programs.
  7. Hope springs eternal, I guess.
  8. Does he have Randy Gregory levels of talent? As in good enough to turn the other way if a trail of smoke follows him when he takes the floor? Not in my opinion. Definitely a valuable player, somebody you'd might keep working with if he was already in your program and you thought you could reach. But bringing him in with the hope that he'd see the light? He's not that good, and he's had multiple chances for a St. John's program that wasn't previously running a taut ship, as they apparently are now. I get the impression that we've set the bar high on character issues, this would be lowering it..
  9. Yeah, he's supposedly leaving because the new coach is too strict. Several pot disciplines already, no thanks.
  10. I'm not going to get excited about a kid when we're the 18th offer. Just don't see us beating out UConn, Maryland, Virginia etc. when we're late to the party. Sorry, I woke up grumpy this morning.
  11. He's very good, but he's 6-5 or so and a post player. He's going to be a terrific high school player, but his college choices will be limited by his size. Looks pretty mature so I doubt he'll grow much.
  12. I'll be honest, I slapped my forehead when I first opened this thread. However, I watched Sterup in high school and thought he should have played basketball instead of football in college. (Not that he was better in hoops, just that he was more likely to have a good college experience and didn't have pro potential in either.) He has good feet and he's obviously a load. Also could shoot from 15 in. He wasn't a high D-1 in basketball, but he could definitely have played D-1 if he had committed to it. At any rate, I doubt he'd be much help now, and it wouldn't be a good sign taking away minutes from Jacob and MIchael to play him.
  13. He's interesting, really a different skill set from anybody around here in a long time, if ever. Better shot blocker than Akoy, terrific rebounder, can dribble and shoot. He'll get pushed around a lot in college for a while but will be interesting to see what kind of player he becomes. Plus, supposedly he's still growing. I know, I know, he's at Creighton, but I like to see the local kids do well.
  14. My god, I'd have rather not known that. Or maybe I did know it and had suppressed it. My Captain Crunch just lost all its flavor this morning.
  15. He was still at Maryland to recruit the 2014 class, which obviously was good, so the guy still produces. Christian also has Boston U. ties, he and Spinelli might have played together. That tie, more money and the fact that Turgeon's status at this time last year was cloudier than it is now may have spurred him to leave. BC wasn't good this year, but I'd expect BC's talent level to go up in the future.
  16. Didn't see this anywhere else: Marcus Foster to Creighton. Today's not a good day for Huskerdom.
  17. I'll be honest, at this point in the Doc regime, I had serious doubts that he'd ever put a good roster together. That's not the case here. TM's recruiting seemingly got such a boost from last season that I think it quite likely he'll put together a big winner in the next few years, not just a one-year illusion like 2013-14. And that will allow the building to continue. Miles' resume was of a slow builder and that's what you're seeing. Osborne didn't hire the quick fix.
  18. Ed Johnson knew his shoes.
  19. He is not a center. He's skinny and likes to shoot outside. He'd be strictly a swap for TP.
  20. The thing that concerns me is our recruiting seems to be back where it was before last year's magical run. After that we put together a really solid group of commitments. But since the air came out of the balloon, we've lost players and haven't (so far) shown signs of being able to get better replacements. For all the talk of facilities and fan support, I fear the main tool we lack right now is the ability to sell this program as a winner.
  21. Central won a bazillion state titles with kids Behrens recruited. Naive to think public schools don't recruit.
  22. I commend everyone for the upbeat assessment. Very reassuring.
  23. Man, if TP doesn't return, this is going to be a major rebuild.
