2016 PF/C Jordy Tshimanga - Signed
Chuck Taylor replied to trickey's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
Here's an attempt to get this to 40: I looked up Jordy on 247 to see if there had been any changes on the crystal ball (50/50 with BC) and noted that he's ranked 163 nationally. Hammond was 190 on 247 when we signed him. So comparable players on paper at this point in their careers. http://nebraska.247sports.com/Season/2014-Basketball/Commits But in terms of anticipation, Jordy seems like a must-have, while I never felt that way with Jake. He just seemed like a good, solid pickup. Edit: Hey, this put it into 39! -
2016 PF/C Jordy Tshimanga - Signed

This is among the most bizarre recruiting episodes I can remember. I'm sure somebody can come up with another, but I just don't get this whole thing. -
OT - Hope everyone in the Lincoln

This has been the strangest offseason I can remember on this board. The cataclysmic weather has been normal for this time of year. -
A Little OT, HS Transfers
Chuck Taylor replied to Navin R. Johnson's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
I've heard Arop is trying to get Ed to transfer and assumed it was to South, but thought it sounded strange that Chubick Sr. would want to get into something like that. Central makes more sense, though, since they've taken a lot of transfers in the past. They also have Roman Behrens, one of the best PGs in the state. -
Mavs redshirted 6-10 Zach Pirog this year. Kid's chest must have measured about 28 inches, so we'll see if they've beefed him up enough to play. Heiman looks like he's about the same size.Zach Pirog played this year and did not redshirt. Rarely played any meaningful minutes but still played nonetheless. My bad, you're right. I went to a couple of their games and didn't see him play, thought he had redshirted.

Some guys wait to announce until after they're done with classes for the semester. Don't like having to answer questions from people they run into on campus, I guess.

Hadn't seen anywhere else, but UNO has also offered 2018 Brady Heiman of Springfield, 6-10 post player. Also, a look at Strom and Poor Bear Chandler: http://ny2labasketballassociation.com/article_one.aspx?articleid=3461

AW-III IS BACK FOR HIS SENIOR SEASON (SOMEWHERE)
Chuck Taylor replied to AuroranHusker's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
So to sum up this thread, there's some guy who said something, but we don't like him, and we don't like Creighton, but AWIII is good, and it's 6 months till practice starts, and nobody really knows nothing? OK then. -
Jeriah Horne compared to Kris Jenkins
Chuck Taylor replied to AuroranHusker's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Kris Jenkins averaged 3.9 ppg as a freshman, 6.4 as a soph, 13 as a junior. Ed Morrow, who Horne presumably battles for playing time, averaged 4.1 as a freshman. (I need some more coffee before coming up with a harebrained theory on what that means.) -
Rank our Roster Top to Bottom
Chuck Taylor replied to Norm Peterson's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
White Watson Webster/Gill Jacobson McVeigh/Morrow/Roby/Horne Fuller While I like the overall talent level, it's tough to put together a good rotation out of this group. So Watson starts at PG but who else plays there? On a message board, it's easy to just plug in Tai or Gill but I'm not so sure either has successfully run a team for extended minutes. Plus, we really have four guys who probably are best suited to play 4 (5, if you count Jacobson). Again, we can just say "Well, Roby and McVeigh can play 3", but I'm not sure either of them can play defense well enough at this stage at a position that often features the opponent's best scorer. Then there's the center position. So as far as depth, we've got a lot of talented bodies, but limited spots to play them. So I'll just grab my worry beads and hope for the best from recruiting this spring. -
Agree. There are some coaches who are really a cut above in terms of adjusting to game situations (I think Dana Altman is a good in-game example). And there are coaches who know how to put together a mentally tough team that can grind its way to victory (Izzo comes to mind, except when playing us). But mostly it's roster management. The earlier mention of Walt coming out and McDermott reacting is a good example. Walt probably had to come out because he was tired or drifting. There wasn't an adequate replacement, so we got beat on the play. You could find a lot of times this year where Miles seemed to push the wrong button, but most of the time his hand was forced by what he had available on his roster and his knowledge of what they could do. I don't think his bench coaching is an issue, except maybe in the sense he doesn't create a sense of calm purpose for the team (the downside of losing his composure about officiating). The roster as it stands now is an issue, although I'm hoping our remaining scholarships change that.

Here are highlights from this year: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3MiiXGUR0bY I don't remember much about him at Lincoln High, just the name.

Interesting: http://www.thescore.com/ncaab/news/1003468 Seems like we'd have the inside track, assuming we're interested.

Give it a rest, huh?

Really impressive player, but foot speed was an issue. When I watched him, he looked like he had really big feet, kind of like a kid who's going to grow several more inches. (I didn't measure his feet, that's just the way he looked. ) Anyway, NDSU is a decent program, and he could develop into a solid player.

Yep. #CantWait I hope he's everything everybody hopes he will be. We've been spoiled by TP and AWIII into thinking transfers immediately blossom when they come here. Not trying to be negative, just maybe temper enthusiasm, but here's what SI wrote about him when he made a big play in the NCAA last year:

Likewise. The dive for the ball was a bad call, but I thought KU benefited from a lot of the ticky tack earlier. There was complaining about Graham's fourth on a rebound, but he came from behind and clearly slapped the guy on the arm, then acted like it was an outrage. Didn't affect the play, so maybe it shouldn't have been called, but what's the ref supposed to do, wait and see or blow the whistle when it happened? I think there's entirely too much complaining about refs. It's a tough job, these guys aren't trying to screw one team or the other. My complaint is when they lose control of the game to where the players don't know what they're supposed to do. That wasn't the case at all last night, though. I didn't have a problem with the foul on the dive for the ball. Nova kid lost it because Graham slid into him and knocked him over. Even IF there is no foul call, after sliding on the floor he rolled over which should have been a travel so they lose ball at least. On the replay it appeared he got his hand on the ball before crashing into the other guy, so a lot of people thought it was a scramble and shouldn't have been called. But watching it real time with no benefit of replay, I thought it was a foul too. Either way, it wasn't like KU got jobbed, imo. Their two leading scorers had stretches where they were terrible offensively. Good defense or bad luck, but it wasn't the officiating.

I don't want to ruin my reputation by quoting myself, but . . . I've been high on Jacobson since we signed him. The cupboard isn't empty at center. I'm not banking on Jacobson growing 3 inches, I'm banking on him bulking up and continuing to improve. I'd be more impressed if we could grab a few kids like this and developed them, rather than swinging and missing at big names. (I just can't get my mind around an empty scholarship.) He's going to end up a big, strong kid who can keep the ball out of the post and pull taller opposing centers away from the basket with his outside shooting. As for Hammond, I have no idea about internal team issues or attitude, but otherwise I haven't given up on him. He shouldn't have played last year, and the picture would look a lot different if this year he had been a redshirt freshman. He has a lot of things to work on, but he can still be a very productive player. He doesn't have to be all-BIG to help this team.

I don't think Altman was a hot property when Danny got fired. He still would have been wearing the label "couldn't win in a bigtime conference" because of his time at K-State. (Guess that wasn't right.) You're correct that the right time would have been if Collier had been fired right after the season. But I think Pedey couldn't swing the money it would have taken and Altman probably didn't want to be part of the Pedey circus anyway. Altman can really coach, would have been a great hire, but water under the bridge.
