I won't miss Lat at all. I think we will be a better team without him. That's not dogging on him but he was a liability when he was on the floor more than he helped the team. Hope he finds success in the next chapter of his life.

2022 off-season moves: Hoiberg vs. Frost

Amazing what NIL money can buy -
You may be correct but pretty sad if this is what it actually took for him to open his eyes to what was actually happening

2022 off-season moves: Hoiberg vs. Frost

That is true. You can build a very competitive team with 3 and 4 star players. Alot of 3 star players mature during college and develop into All-Conference type players. -
2022 off-season moves: Hoiberg vs. Frost
kldm64 replied to Norm Peterson's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
It's possible. We've tried the recruiting just the highest star rating players we can and throw them together and discovered we have no offensive flow when basically 2 guys demanded the ball 80% of the time. Look at Miami last year as they didn't have any stars on their team but just played together and found ways to win. I'd take 5 three star players who played their ass off any day over 5 five star players who are only worrying about what the scouts are thinking and their stats to get them to the next level. I fully expect us to finish towards the bottom of the league but would not be surprised if we finished around 10th or so. -
2023 SG Parker Friedrichsen -> Wake Forest...for now
kldm64 replied to royalfan's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
He mainly played the off guard. He did bring the ball up the court on occasion but his role was mainly a shooting guard. He has a nice stroke but certainly needs to put on some weight. Kinda of like once Bryce put on some muscle, he was able to compete at a higher lever. -

I watched Parker play this past weekend. Yea, he is very solid and a deadly shooter. Really hoping Nebraska can land him cause he is exactly the type of player we need. -
Don't disagree with you but even more shows you have bad the football team is when it can't even be competitive in the West Division which is a cupcake. NU fans bitch when we have to play Ohio State and Michigan in the same season cause the schedule is to hard. Image being in the East division where lower end teams have to run play Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan St and Penn State every year? We got a gift being in the West and still can't compete which is even more sad.
-
And with all that, can only manage a 26% overall winning percentage at Nebraska and a very solid 15% conference winning percentage.
-
Agreed. If I was in his shoes, no way would I have picked NU over Creighton and I hate Creighton.
-
I don't have any source on this one. He won't get drafted so depends on if he wants to play in the G league or go overseas or just play one more year of college ball. Just saying that if another schools overs him $300,000 in NIL and he is only making $50,000 at NU as an example, most likely he will go where the money is. Kids aren't loyal to a school anymore. They aren't loyal to where they can make the most money.
-
With NIL money these days, nothing surprises me anymore. If Trey gets a better deal from another school, he will gone.
-
As much as I hate Creighton, they will be easily a preseason Top 10 team and possible a top 5 team. They have all the right pieces to make it to the Final Four. Granted, they have only won 2 games in the NCAA tournament once but they certainly are a team that could make alot of noise this year.
-
Good point and hope you are correct.
-
I think NIL is going to be the end of college sports as we used to know it. I think your "other" scenario is more likely as players aren't going to go to their favorite schools anymore as they will just go to the highest bidder. This will especially be hard for old school NU football fans that still have the mentality that kids in Nebraska grow up wanting to play for their home state. While that is probably still true, once a school offers them a better NIL deal, they will go where the money is. And we are just at the beginning of NIL. Image what things will be like in a few years when college kids are making more that professional players. I just have a bad feeling, things are going to get out of control really quickly.
-
It's not that there's nothing to do in Nebraska but there are no other sports teams to follow and attend games other than UNL
-
I was at that game as well. Been to Allen Fieldhouse for a few other games as well and they get a packed house no matter who they are playing. It is very impressive. Wish NU fanbase was more like that. It's hard to not like KU once you've been to a home game there. It is truly a special place.
-
Their fan base is actually pretty awesome. Try going to a game at Allen Fieldhouse and you might think differently. Don't get a much better college basketball atmosphere than that!!!
-
A match up zone can be way more effective than playing man if you run it correctly. It's not gimmicky. It can be very effective as your main defense. It basically like playing man to man but you just play it against the person when they are in your zone.
-
Think that was just a role they created for Doc to stick around another year. Was hoping they would use that money towards hiring a top notch assistant coach with strong recruiting ties.
-
Don't we only have 1 coaching job open?
-
I hope so. I think we can and should be able to recruit better players than him.
-
Roster stability is always a goal and not sure that is what Hoiberg and Alberts agreed upon. That is more of an expectation than an change. I don't remember us losing any incoming recruits prior to them arriving on campus so not sure if this year is any different than any previous years. And just because we have had one player (Walker) returning isn't necessarily anything Hoiberg did other than having a conversation with him. He is working on his Master's degree so why not use your last year in college to run it back. Trust me, I'm very glad his is coming back. I really don't understand your comment about a sharper focus on recruiting players in the state of Nebraska. Getting a grad transfer (Griesel) isn't recruiting the state. He is a transfer with only 1 year eligibility left. And you can't say that Hoiberg hasn't recruited the state hard already. He recruited Jasen Green as well as Isaac Traut. In fact, it was down to us and Virginia with Traut so trust me, he was already recruiting the top players in Nebraska hard. I'm still hoping Trey comes back next year as well as think we can be competitive next year but of course, I said the same thing about this season. As we say with all men's sports here at Nebraska......just wait till next year.
