  1. All good news but if we don't find ways to win games that we are up 15 points in the 2nd half, none of that will matter.
  2. We missed free throws and refs were bad.......all true. However, you have a team down by 15 in the 2nd half and their body language is bad, you have to go into killer instinct mode and we didn't. We started chucking up bad shots instead of playing the way that got you the lead in the first place. It is glaring that we need other scoring options beside Brice. Teams are starting to double team him and we don't have any other consistent option. The other thing I noticed is we are back to playing alot of 1-on-1 basketball and creating your own shot. There are times due to matchup this is fine but we seem to like to create our own shot instead of ball movement and get kids an open look. Bottom line is this as a very winnable game and we let it slip away. It hurts as we could be 3-1 in conference play and looking at a very good seed in NCAA tournament. Instead, we drop to .500 in conference and miss opportunity for a conference road win. Now you have a tough road game ahead of you and if you lose that one, you are under .500 and on a 2 game losing streak. Amazing how one game can change the whole outlook.
  3. For the people that say you don't want to be ranked, that makes no sense. If you are ranked, you get talked about more on ESPN/Fox/ect., your scores get on the ticker being a top 20 team and high school kids pay more attention to ranked teams which can help recruiting. Where is the downside of being a ranked team?
  4. This is the website I like to use as takes into account more than just one person or website opinion. http://www.bracketmatrix.com/
  5. First of all, people (individuals) aren't making billions but rather a corporation might be. So not sure how you don't consider a free education, meals, clothes and cash each month compensation??? That is easily over $100,000 compensation for each athlete. You may not think that is alot of money but I do. Granted the university and NCAA is making alot of money off their product but the athletes have always been compensated even if it's not as much as you think it should be. So basically we really don't need a separate category for college and pro level now since they are all getting paid and there isn't any difference.
  6. The pendulum has not been to far one way as the "student athletes" have always been compensated with a free education, clothes, meals, money, etc. Some of us had to pay for our education and take out student loans to pay back but athletes walk out of college with no student debt of tens (or sometimes hundreds) of thousands of dollars. Guess an education isn't considered compensation to you. It's going to stay turbulent as who is going to regulate it?? The money these kids make will just continue to grow till athletes are making more than the coaches. Not sure how you think it will settle down. It's just going to keep getting worse.
  7. Can't blame him. It's gotta to be extremely difficult to be a college coach these days. He is 100% accurate when he says we have to ask ourselves what is this all about. Seems like kids prefer more money as opposed to winning these days. Hard to judge cause if I was a 20 year old athlete, I'd probably want to make as much money as I could as well.
  8. Just curious what is so interesting and exciting about next year as we lose a ton of seniors after this year. We are losing Ulis, Williams, Gary, Morgan, Worster, and Meah. What makes you excited about next year losing all this experience?
  9. 100% agree and that is why it's hard to get invested in kids these days. You get excited to get a high school kid or transfer and they only stay 1 year and then move on to (green pastures). I absolutely love college sports but but with the way it's run nowadays, it's make it harder to like. Makes you wonder how much longer it will be until things like salary caps and signing bonus make their way into college sports. Other than you only get to play college sports for 4 year and professionally, you can play as long as you want, there isn't much difference anymore.
  10. And if they had lost to Kansas (which normally would happen), they would be 6-6 right now and not even looking good to make the NCAA tournament at the moment.
  11. I agree with you and it's shocking cause he didn't look like this when he played at Rutgers. We could use him in the rotation so hopefully it will just take a few shots to go in for him to gain some confidence cause it looks like he doesn't have any at the moment.
  12. No way do you switch out Janowski for GG. That make no sense at all. It's way more of a risk to go with an unproven freshman over a kid with a year of Big 10 experience. Gavin was solid at Rutgers so give him some more time. He just needs to have a "break out" game like Conner did.
  13. The winning team of this tournament will receive $9 million in NIL for the 2024 competition, and although pay-for-play style tournaments are against NCAA regulations, each participating team will receive $1 million in NIL payouts.
  14. Gavin seems like he is playing not to make a mistake so he doesn't get pulled right away. He is playing tight instead of not worrying about making a mistake. I think if he has one breakout game like Conner just had at Creighton, he will look like a new player and be able to contribute more this season.
  15. Your thread title is wrong. It's HATE Creighton week. That is all....
  16. what a great atmosphere and fun place to go to a game. That is one it would have been nice to steal but once again, our 3 point shooting is not good. Last year, it paid to have Reink to out free throw line since he was a good passer but don't understand the point to have Meah come out as he accomplishes nothing out there. He needs to stay in the block but the bad thing is, he isn't every effective down there either. Tough loss and now put more pressure on that can't drop any more non-conference games outside of Creighton if you want to make the tournament again.
  17. It's hard to say we looked better because that was the worst team we have played so far. If we can't start hitting shots from beyond the arc, it will be a long season. We will know alot more about our basketball team after the next 2 games. Looking forward to road trip to Sioux Falls.
  18. What helped us last year was we didn't have any Q3 or Q4 losses. We beat the teams we should have. With a weak non-conference schedule like we have, you can't afford any slip-ups.
  19. It was certainly some ugly basketball especially in the 1st half. Things got a little cleaner in 2nd half but this team has alot of work to do in a short period of time if they don't want to get blown out by CU in a few weeks. I'm hoping we improve enough to beat St. Mary's next weekend as well. Lots of one on one basketball last night as ball seem to stick in peoples hand. I wasn't impressed with ball movement as seemed people tried to create their own shot instead of setting each other up. I've seen that brand of basketball at NU with teams under Fred and its never good. Just something to keep an eye on that ball movement really needs to improve. Conner - Really like this kid and think he is going to factor in the offense big time by the end of the season. Sam - NIce fill in player when needed but not expecting big minutes from him this year Ulis - didn't play alot. He didn't do anything great but nothing bad either Brice - Scored alot but seemed like he was a ball hog at times with no assists. Hope he doesn't get that mind set that every time I get the ball, I need to shoot. I'm sure they will watch film and point things out to him Juwan - Not a great start for him but not worried. He will be fine Berke - Nothing flashy but has huge upside. Will be interesting to see how he develops over the season with this team Gavin - Needs to get stronger. Had some good and bad moments but will be a nice player to come off the bench and further develop his game this season Morgan - Started out great with some nice down low moves. Could see him taking over for Braxon in starting lineup Rollie - Just solid. Braxton - Wow, he is offensively challenged. You can't teach size so nice to have him on the team for rebounds but based on what I saw, can't expect a lot of scoring from him.
  20. Sam doesn't have alot of other schools beating the door down get him. And we were lucky to get Gary back most likely due to NIL. So that is 2 out of 12 proving my point that the odds are very slim. Not saying it can't happen but it's just more rare than it used to be. NIL is keeping kids in school longer but not necessarily at the same school.
  21. Unfortunately, in today's world, the chances of someone staying in a program 3+ years are very slim anymore.
  22. We can now officially put this "preseason" thread to bed. The regular season is here and it's time for games that actually count. Tonight can't get here fast enough.
  23. I hope your right. I see some decent players but wouldn't throw them in the Super Talented category yet.
  24. I only count 3 that I would say at this point are are Super talented. Who am I missing? Conner Essegian Berke Gavin Griffith
