Good point and hope you are correct.

I think NIL is going to be the end of college sports as we used to know it. I think your "other" scenario is more likely as players aren't going to go to their favorite schools anymore as they will just go to the highest bidder. This will especially be hard for old school NU football fans that still have the mentality that kids in Nebraska grow up wanting to play for their home state. While that is probably still true, once a school offers them a better NIL deal, they will go where the money is. And we are just at the beginning of NIL. Image what things will be like in a few years when college kids are making more that professional players. I just have a bad feeling, things are going to get out of control really quickly.

It's not that there's nothing to do in Nebraska but there are no other sports teams to follow and attend games other than UNL
-
I was at that game as well. Been to Allen Fieldhouse for a few other games as well and they get a packed house no matter who they are playing. It is very impressive. Wish NU fanbase was more like that. It's hard to not like KU once you've been to a home game there. It is truly a special place.
-
Their fan base is actually pretty awesome. Try going to a game at Allen Fieldhouse and you might think differently. Don't get a much better college basketball atmosphere than that!!!

A match up zone can be way more effective than playing man if you run it correctly. It's not gimmicky. It can be very effective as your main defense. It basically like playing man to man but you just play it against the person when they are in your zone.

Think that was just a role they created for Doc to stick around another year. Was hoping they would use that money towards hiring a top notch assistant coach with strong recruiting ties.
-
Don't we only have 1 coaching job open?
-
I hope so. I think we can and should be able to recruit better players than him.

Roster stability is always a goal and not sure that is what Hoiberg and Alberts agreed upon. That is more of an expectation than an change. I don't remember us losing any incoming recruits prior to them arriving on campus so not sure if this year is any different than any previous years. And just because we have had one player (Walker) returning isn't necessarily anything Hoiberg did other than having a conversation with him. He is working on his Master's degree so why not use your last year in college to run it back. Trust me, I'm very glad his is coming back. I really don't understand your comment about a sharper focus on recruiting players in the state of Nebraska. Getting a grad transfer (Griesel) isn't recruiting the state. He is a transfer with only 1 year eligibility left. And you can't say that Hoiberg hasn't recruited the state hard already. He recruited Jasen Green as well as Isaac Traut. In fact, it was down to us and Virginia with Traut so trust me, he was already recruiting the top players in Nebraska hard. I'm still hoping Trey comes back next year as well as think we can be competitive next year but of course, I said the same thing about this season. As we say with all men's sports here at Nebraska......just wait till next year.

The North Star is up in the sky so I guess you are correct, NorthStar direction is up and Standing Bear's direction is standing exactly where it it located. Not a big fan of either name.
-
Hard to say that until we know if Trey, Derrick and Lat are coming back. If Trey comes back, he is starting and probably Derrick but Lat could easily be moving to coming off the bench.
-
The didn't with Lincoln Northstar and so hard to make the point now they need to do directional names. I totally agree with you cause I lobbied for Lincoln Northstar to be named Lincoln North but was told by the school board that they didn't want Lincoln and Omaha to have any of the same names and there was already a Omaha North high school.
-
Nice guy but never saw one of his teams overachieve. I saw most classes underachieve based on the talent he had.
-
You are correct that he had a side lawn care business. Coach Q has done less with more talent than any Class A coach I've ever seen.
-
Valid point but these coaches aren't getting paid that kind of money to shape young men. Not doubt, Doc was a likeable guy but he was an average coach. Hard not to like Doc the person but we aren't paying him to be a good human. We are paying him to help win basketball games.
-
Hopefully no matter what happens, we keep the recruits but depends on who they have the best relationship with and how badly they want to play for Nebraska and/or in the Big 10
-
Gates was not mentioned so I don't have any information on his status.
-
Not really but I would imagine within the next week or two.
-
Yes, that is correct. This is coming from one of current NU assistant coaches
-
From what I was told today, Matt A will not be back. Also sounds like they are letting Doc decide if he wants to return in the same non-coaching role or not.
-
Bryce has already let the coaching staff know he is not planning on coming back next year. Based on team results, he will be remembered as the first 5 star player at NU that started off slowly until he got more comfortable with the physical part of college basketball. He could have been a potential Big 10 player of the year next year but he has decided to head to the NBA next year.
-
Yep, you are probably correct. I think Walker would come back but he is 24 years old already so he might be ready to move on. Either way, could be a rough year again next year.
-
Your not wrong as we absolutely got the best draw and path to the championship game we could get.
