OT: You can't spell "SEC" without "Texas"
kldm64 replied to HuskerFever's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
It's amazing how people are so anti-SEC cause they pulled off an very good move for their conference in acquiring Texas and OU. Would everyone here have the same reaction if the Big 10 landed these schools? Probably not as it would strengthen the conference brand and increase overall revenue which it typically what every school wants. Nebraska did the exact same thing Texas and OU are doing and people thought it was a great move and the profit sharing NU would get. Without question, the SEC already was the strongest football conference before this and now it will get even stronger. Hard to fault them for that. -

If I was the Big 10 commissioner, I'd see if Missouri and Texas A&M have any interest in leaving the SEC and joining the Big 10 -

That is 100% correct. SEC adds Texas & OU and the Big 10 adds Kansas? Not a good look -

I agree as think KU will end up in the Big 10 but the rest of the conference could merge with the Pac 12. I'd absolutely love to have KU for basketball purposes but definitely not a splash move for football purposes. -

why is everyone wanting to merge with the the Pac 12? People complain about 11am games now but the reason the Pac 12 gets no national attention is because the rest of the country is asleep when they play their games. If you think you need to merge, why not just take the remaining 6 of the remaining 8 schools from the Big 12 and make a 20 team conference. I'd much rather taking schools like Oklahoma St, Iowa State, Texas Tech, Kansas, etc. and stay in the same time zone at least. Seems more appealing than adding teams from the Pac-12 -
And remember that we didn't have Derrick Walker for the 1st half of the season and we got rid of Teddy Allen who had a hard time running an offense as the ball stuck in his hand and he preferred to just one on one many times. Besides losing Dalano Banton, we have the right players coming back and adding in some very good young talent. It just seems to me there is a real hunger from the players this year to do something special and that can go a long ways as well. This is the first year Fred is not having to do a rooster flip. The Big 10 will be good this year but not the same level as last year. Just don't see any reason this team shouldn't be competitive this year.

I'm might be going out on a limb but I'd be extremely disappointed if we didn't make the NCAA tournament this year.

I've been downing the Kool-Aid. Don't sleep on Nebraska this year. This team could be a sleeping giant.

Right, wrong or indifferent, ESPN is in the business to make money. They have the TV rights to the SEC so of course they wanted this to happen. Not sure they have broken any laws (or at least the we know about). Just like Fox Sports owns TV rights to other conferences. The bigger issue for me is that this doesn't even look like college sports anymore. Money and greed can just ruin everything. The rich get richer and the poor get poorer. What made college sports great was the traditions, rivalry games, playing other schools in your region of the country where you could just road trip, and college kids just being college kids and enjoying playing for the university they were attending. Now, with NIL and mega conferences, money trumps everything. We won't even be able to recognize college sports as they kids will all be in for the paycheck only. -

Who cares about what people are commenting on. Everyone's got an opinion on what everyone else should do. The Big 10 would be lucky to get 2 quality programs like Texas and OU. It's just a shame the SEC beat them to it. I'd much rather add schools like Texas and OU as opposed to Kansas and Iowa State. That's like adding Rutgers and Maryland all over again. -
2023 SG Parker Friedrichsen -> Wake Forest...for now

I'm not saying we shouldn't offer this kid but to say "if he good enough for them, he good enough for us" is a real slap in the face to Nebraska Basketball and what we are trying to do. Just because other schools have offered doesn't automatically mean we need to. There are lots of reasons who you make offers to and when to do it. And I don't think Nebraska should offer kids just because "he's good enough for Iowa and Illinois". -

You make an excellent point. People in Nebraska would love to have KU and Iowa State join the conference cause they are familiar and make an easy road trip. However, these decisions are based on football revenue and KU bring nothing to the table in that regard. I totally agree that while people in Nebraska would love to go back to the old Big 8 days as much as possible, the national perception is that it didn't move the needle to strengthen the conference and in many ways, makes it weaker from a competitive standpoint. -

Any conference would be thrilled and lucky to get Texas and OU join their conference. It it interesting they have made a decision at this time to make the move and want to go to the SEC. I know it probably makes it easier to recruit to the best conference in football but both schools already recruit just fine. There is obviously something both schools know and/or are anticipating to happen for them to make this pro-active move. Not that the SEC wasn't already the most dominate conference but adding the 2 schools will just have everyone else playing for 2nd place from now on. -

I was secretly hoping some day that Texas and OU would leave and join the Big 10 conference as that would be a major get. It would expand the conference to 16 teams and would make the conference extremely strong. Guess the SEC will win out. -
That is so not true!!!

I think we call all pretty much agree that these 4 are most likely to be starters but it just who will slide into the 5th spot. It's nice to have options as we can add another guard or big body to the starting line-up. Trey Bryce Lat Walker

Very solid schedule

I agree as hope things work out for him but he could have came back and still made very decent money with NIL. The G league will always be there next year and couple potentially been a draft pick if had a good season. Either way, wish him the best as big fan of him.
-
Just saw this as well. I was really hoping we got another year from him but totally understand. Wish him well and hopes he gets drafted or makes a team. Thought he could even be a starter for us this year. Still a good look that Fred is putting kids in the league. That is what will attract more 5 star players to come here.
-
Fair enough but they are in position to have another good year (at least on paper) and if the playoffs was 12 teams last year like they are proposing, they probably would have been in the playoffs. They are certainly a ways off from competing for National Championships but certainly capable to compete for conference championships right now.
-
You must have missed my post yesterday: The strength of schedule is getting more difficult by the day. Auburn could be a Top 10 team by the time we play them. Fred is putting together a pretty difficult schedule this year.
-
Not sure I'd base the programs on revenue only. If you look at the Football program alone, Iowa State is easily ahead of Nebraska but if you look at all men's and women's sports entirely, then NU is in better shape. Iowa State football is national relevant right now and NU Football hasn't been relevant for almost 20 years.

What will our rotation look like next year?
kldm64 replied to huskerbill85's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
The starting lineup could evolve over the course of the season but it's nice to be solid 2 deep at all positions. Here would be an interesting line-up Staring lineup Trey McGowens Dalano Banton Bryce McGowens Lat Mayen Derrick Walker
