uneblinstu's postgame chatter : vol 17; ed 1 - UTRGV
kldm64 replied to uneblinstu's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
It was certainly some ugly basketball especially in the 1st half. Things got a little cleaner in 2nd half but this team has alot of work to do in a short period of time if they don't want to get blown out by CU in a few weeks. I'm hoping we improve enough to beat St. Mary's next weekend as well. Lots of one on one basketball last night as ball seem to stick in peoples hand. I wasn't impressed with ball movement as seemed people tried to create their own shot instead of setting each other up. I've seen that brand of basketball at NU with teams under Fred and its never good. Just something to keep an eye on that ball movement really needs to improve. Conner - Really like this kid and think he is going to factor in the offense big time by the end of the season. Sam - NIce fill in player when needed but not expecting big minutes from him this year Ulis - didn't play alot. He didn't do anything great but nothing bad either Brice - Scored alot but seemed like he was a ball hog at times with no assists. Hope he doesn't get that mind set that every time I get the ball, I need to shoot. I'm sure they will watch film and point things out to him Juwan - Not a great start for him but not worried. He will be fine Berke - Nothing flashy but has huge upside. Will be interesting to see how he develops over the season with this team Gavin - Needs to get stronger. Had some good and bad moments but will be a nice player to come off the bench and further develop his game this season Morgan - Started out great with some nice down low moves. Could see him taking over for Braxon in starting lineup Rollie - Just solid. Braxton - Wow, he is offensively challenged. You can't teach size so nice to have him on the team for rebounds but based on what I saw, can't expect a lot of scoring from him. -
Sam doesn't have alot of other schools beating the door down get him. And we were lucky to get Gary back most likely due to NIL. So that is 2 out of 12 proving my point that the odds are very slim. Not saying it can't happen but it's just more rare than it used to be. NIL is keeping kids in school longer but not necessarily at the same school.
-
Unfortunately, in today's world, the chances of someone staying in a program 3+ years are very slim anymore.
-
We can now officially put this "preseason" thread to bed. The regular season is here and it's time for games that actually count. Tonight can't get here fast enough.
-
I hope your right. I see some decent players but wouldn't throw them in the Super Talented category yet.
-
I only count 3 that I would say at this point are are Super talented. Who am I missing? Conner Essegian Berke Gavin Griffith
-
My assumption is most coaches do not want to play in the NIL world but have to say they are in favor of it. I would hate it if I was a college coach. Used to be you would recruit kids based on your school or coaches but now you just recruit them on how much money you can offer them.
-
That is correct which is why I was so critical of our non-conference schedule. It could bite us in the end with such a low SOS. This a Doc Sadler kind of schedule and absolutely no non conference home games that will draw much of a crowd and/or atmosphere. It would be extremely disappointing to just make NIT this year.

Red defeats White 66-50 in 2024 Pre-Season Scrimmage
kldm64 replied to hhcmatt's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
I attended the scrimmage as well. I agree with your assessment. It will be interesting with Rollie and Ahron as they both are very solid and are both good enough to be the starter. We are big this year which is nice for a change. This could be a very dangerous team once they all settle in and accept their roles on the team. Lots of veteran players. Totally agree on Cale. He is a good player but his minutes will be very limited and not sure who you are going to take minutes away from. Branden needs to redshirt. It would be a waste of year for him if he doesn't. -

Seems we could say that about every recruit and they they somehow sign with another school. -
USC & UCLA TO JOIN BIG TEN (beginning 2024)!
kldm64 replied to Red Don's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Why would the Big 12 want SDSU? They don't bring much to the table. -
I believe it's an 11am game time.
-
That is accurate as I was able to grab 2 midcourt seats but magically new seats kept popping up when I refreshed that were there a minute ago.
-
I got my tickets and sitting at mid court in row 5. Can't wait!!!!
-
That is accurate that you put your in a position that the only acceptable loss would be to CU. Any other loss (other than maybe St. Mary's most likely will be a Q3 or Q4 loss. And with how bad our non-conference schedule is, you can't have any bad losses if you want to make the tournament.
-
I will go to every game as well but there won't be a big crowd or much excitement for these games. You couldn't get a worse home schedule. No room for error with how bad this schedule is.
-
Absolutely horrible home schedule. It's going to be extremely difficult to get fans to want to come out and watch any of these games. Expect a terrible home atmosphere. Please talk quietly with the people you sit by otherwise they will hear you on the other side of the arena.

I know for volleyball, I had mobile tickets and wanted to give them to my parents to go to a game but they don't have smart phones. I called ticket office and they printed out tickets and had them at the will call window for them but it was like a $2 charge to do that.
-
It's very easy. All you need is his email or cell number. He then just needs to accept the transfer and you are all set. Mobile tickets are the best. Last year, it even deleted the old tickets and added the current ticket to your wallet. Pretty slick.
-
As long as he didn't commit to CU, didn't care where he ended up.

My stance is college players shouldn't be getting paid as they are already getting paid with free education, meals, clothes, etc. However, now that they can get paid, it's hard to blame them leaving to make more money. I have said that now college kids are getting paid, it has ruined college sports like we know it. There is no difference between college and pro now. It has completed changed the landscape in college sports for how you recruit now. You don't sell them on your school but rather what kind of NIL deal you can put together for them. Things change and even if I prefer the days before NIL, just have to adapt to the way it is now cause it ain't going to go back. I would agree with you that fans had higher expectations for Trev and his tenure here at Nebraska. I was one of them but I'm just not someone who needs to take cheap shots at him for leaving if he felt like that was a better opportunity for him. It obviously had to be a hard decision to leave the school he played his college days at so there had to be strong reasons for him to walk. I may not have liked it either but I try to be objective and understand his side as well.
-
He got a job offer and accepted it. Exactly what are you expecting that he is never allowed to leave Nebraska? He went from UNO to UNL to Texas A&M very quickly so he must be doing something right. I was hoping he would stay at UNL longer but if someone offered me more money, I'd do the same thing he did. Hard to hold a grudge against him for taking a job offer with potentially better opportunities (especially with the deep pockets Texas &M has).
-
Or congrats to A&M for being the National Champion Runner up. Great series to watch and they played some outstanding baseball. Maybe it's time for NU fans to quit being so bitter and not make everything so personal. Trev made a business decision to take a different job. It happens. Congrats to Trev and Texas A&M for a great championship series and congrats to the Vols for a tremendous season and your National Championship. Well deserved...

Worst news ever but leave it to the NCAA to take something perfect the way it is and mess it all up just for the sake of money.
