I surrender.  Kept hoping but it ain't happening.  Senior and draft-eligible junior team, and we still suck.  No hope on the horizon.  Really disappointed as I know what good people these coaches are, but  barring a sudden change in recruiting fortunes, we aren't gonna be good anytime soon.

The good news is that many are starting to take notice of Erstads struggles. The guy is in over his head. I can only imagine he said "I didn't have the team ready to play." Unfortunately we hear that far too often out of him. One more year of Erstad results and he may be retired again.

Always nice to win. Hopefully they can keep grinding and get hot come tourney time. No question we can win the Big Ten tournament if hitting and pitching can click at the same time.

Man, is Boldt scuffling.  Painful to watch that slump.   Needs a Slumpbuster.

No question about it.  Perhaps there has been a trickle down effect with the overall performance of the team.  Really good to win this series, though.  Need to keep grinding and hope we get hot, as khoock stated.  Or at least get very warm.

I posted this in the Marketplace, but sometimes that forum doesn't get checked, so:  I have two complimentary tickets available for the Classic at the K Wednesday night.  Right behind home plate, in the KIA Diamond Club seating area (Section 128, Row C, seats 3 & 4).  Chance to sit in some sweet seats at a great stadium.  Send me a PM if you are interested, and I will get you the tickets via  email.

Boldt is still pressing.  Maybe a day off for him, or drop him out of the leadoff spot.  Try something to get him going.  If he doesn't get going, this team is going nowhere.

Catcher- Fish and Wilkening split time

1st Baseman- Schriber is a sophomore

2nd Baseman- Schleppenbach is a junior that will not get drafted

3rd Baseman- Placzek is a senior

Shortstop- Reveles is a senior

Left Fielder- Alvarado is a sophomore and his natural position is 3rd base

Center Fielder- Boldt will be gone after this year.

Right Fielder- Myers is a sophomore

Designated Hitter- Miller is a draft eligible junior.  Debatable if he goes high enough to forego the senior year.  A great hitter, a decent fielder.  I don't know if teams will be willing to go very high with him.

Back-up outfielders- Dilday is a sophomore.  Klemke is a freshmen.

Back-up infielders- Altavilla is a freshmen that got playing time this year. Henwood is a freshmen who got some playing time.

Starting pitchers- Burkamper might get a look in the draft, especially if he can show command of the strike zone, and build up his velocity.  King is a sophomore.  Waldron is a freshmen.  McSteen is a freshmen.  Knutson is much like Burkamper.

Relief Pitching- Eddins and Engleken are sophomores.  Luensmann is a freshmen, who has set records as a closer, with a chance to be a dominant starter.

A couple injuries, that if they can return will be huge in Fisher and Hohensee.

We should be better than we are, but we do have some talented youngsters coming back next year.

This.  He's had enough time to work through it.  The Mother Of All Slumps

I am not a big fan of him in the lead-off spot anyway.  I think Placzek should be the lead-off guy, and Boldt 2nd or 3rd.

Here's a line-up with him slumping, we should try to see if it might get him going.

Placzek

Myers

Miller

Schriber

Boldt

Alvarado

Fish/Wilkening

Schleppenbach

Reveles

If we can make the Big 10 tourney, the emergence of Max as a starter will be a huge boost.  As a starter, Knutson has thrown 11 2/3 IP, 11 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 4 BB, 8 SO, and now 1-0.  As a reliever, he has thrown 11 2/3 IP, 13 H, 12 R, 12 ER, 15 BB, 18 SO, and 0-1.  That is a 9.26 ERA as a reliever, and a 2.31 ERA as a starter.

Won 4 out 5. A sweep over Rutgers would make me feel a little better but we definitely need to win the series for Big Ten standings purposes.

Of the four games we have won recently the opponent has only scored 2 runs or less so pitching is coming around (hopefully to stay). If the bats heat up simultaneously, we have the schedule to go on a tear to end the season and still get some quality wins.

I would take a series win.  Rutgers has a surprisingly decent RPI at 73.

Series win is kind of a must imo. We are tied for 6th right now. If we lose the series to Rutgers we drop in the standing and only have a one game lead on them with them owning the tiebreaker. With series against Michigan State, Indiana, and Penn State ahead (all tied or ahead of us in the standings) we HAVE to win the Rutgers series.

With that being said, I think our schedule is solid enough down the stretch that we still have a chance at an at large with a 10-4 or 11-3 finish and decent showing in the Big Ten tourney.

Check that...the game was rescheduled to 5/17

What is interesting is that the Storm Chasers played last night at home. Guess their team doesn't have many opportunities for rain-outs on "potential storms" that may or may not come to pass.
