Jessica was named the espnW national player of the week after putting up outlandish numbers for a freshman this past week. I'm guessing this isn't the only weekly award she'll get this week!

Jessica Shepard pretty much always wanted to be a Nebraska Cornhusker. And so far in her freshman year, she's making the kind of impact that everyone expected since she committed to the Huskers before she was even in high school.

Shepard, a 6-foot-4 forward from Fremont, Nebraska, is our espnW national player of the week after leading the Huskers to big road victories at Purdue and Michigan.

Editor's note: Charlie Creme, Graham Hays and Mechelle Voepel each vote to determine espnW's national player of the week, which is awarded every week of the women's college basketball season.

I made the outlandish claim on this board when Jess was a HS junior that she could have started for the Huskers back then.  On a team that had a high seed in the NCAA tournament, no less.  I probably wasn't the only one to make that outlandish claim, but if anyone doubted it back then, Jess is making believers out of them now.

Awesome talent.  Would have been so great for Jordan Hooper to have had a Jess Shepard on the team her senior year.

Mich's coach in her presser after the game, you guys may have listened to...(not positive as to her exact words) ....said Jess was a "beast" I think it was, and also said Jess was the best freshman in country.  She seemed real unhappy she'll have to face Jess three more years.

I too had seen her play in HS a few times....and have said previously, Jess was the best I ever saw. It's almost a certainty she'll be All B1G freshman POY, and maybe All B1G team too.....35-20 has that affect on such things.

from here on out, opposing defensive game plans are going to really be interesting. sure, coaches knew jess was really good, but, it may have just been kicked up a notch.

it will be interesting to if an opposing coach "sells out" to stop jess and see if the others on the court can beat them.

Jess has won so many Freshman of the week awards the Big Ten can't even keep track.  In their press release where she got both awards they said it was her 7th Freshmen award.  It is her 8th.  They forgot the Jan. 18th one.
