Only one player made this top 5 list at a position--Shavon.  I hope people keep in mind the lack of developed, proven returning talent.   I look forward to the development of this freshman class and Horne and Roby, but it's still going to take awhile.

By this guy's metric, you'd have to say we have one of the easiest Big Ten schedules. 

 

He has a top 6 set of teams that he thinks could finish in really any order and those are:  Wisconsin, Indiana, Purdue, Maryland, Michigan and Michigan State.

 

Of those top 6 teams, we only play Indiana and Purdue twice.  We play once each against Maryland, Michigan, Michigan State and Wisconsin.

 

We also have single match-ups against Ohio State, Minnesota and Iowa.  Two of those -- Minnesota and Ohio State -- are at PBA.

 

We have doubles against bottom dwellers including Rutgers, Penn State and Northwestern.

 

So, all things considered, we have about as manageable of a schedule as you might hope to have.

Probably don't bother reading Athlon's Big Ten preview.  They pick us 13th with this penetrating analysis:

The Cornhuskers didn't come close to living up to expectations last season, and now they will have to play without forwards Walter Pritchford [sic] and Terran Petteway, who were the heart and soul of the program. It's all the more painful because both guys bolted for the pros early, and it was a bad decision for both. Now head coach Tim Miles has to rebuild his program, and he has brought in six newcomers to do the job. Senior Shavon Shields and Kansas transfer Andrew White will both help ease the effort.

 

"Pritchford" the "heart and soul" of the program?  I would have picked a different couple of body parts, actually.  This guy (whoever it is) obviously knows a lot about our basketball program. 

 

It's like they write these things but you read them and think, "Do they know about the things we've seen?"  Did they see any of what we all saw of our kids playing in Spain?  The newly-found aggressiveness and confidence we thought we were seeing in Tai has certainly carried forward.  Andrew White has delivered so far.  The freshmen have lived up to their billing.  And now that our supposed "heart and soul" turned pro, Shavon should return to being more like Shavon.

I think all of this preseason hype will put us in a prime position to be considered an "overachieving" team by the end of the year by all of these same writers. And judging from the amount of research they all did on Nebraska, they might as well start writing their new stories now.

I've always found it amusing when you read an "Expert Analysis" from one of these National boobs and it's patently obvious they've never watched a Husker game. Like they say down in Nuckolls County, never bulls**t a bulls**tter.
