One thing is we have some quality depth at a bunch of positions which could help us be fresher at the end of the season and to be able to weather some injuries this year.

Can Rachel go down again, no, but some of the others could be covered for a short time.

I think we surprise a bunch of people.

Agree.

We will be much deeper in the post. Granted there are newbies, but they're very capable rookies....with size.  While some are rookies, Washington has practiced with the team for a year, Havers is an experienced junior, Blackburn has the nose for the ball as shown in Australia, Ostrander has years of experience playing college athletics (was an excellent rebounder in HS), and of course......

Shepard...if she's healthy, and can get up to speed by B1G start...lookout :)   ...best Ne. HS womens Bball player I ever saw in person.

I really like the potential this team has going in to game play. We'll need a few games under their belt with all hands on deck, so we can gel.

I think our biggest asset to having a good season is having a healthy Rachel....all season. Her leadership alone will get us through some of these pre conference games in good shape. Hopefully Jess will be cleared for play soon, her presence on the court will pay dividends right away.

I've got a good feeling about this team, we've seen flashes of what Natalie will bring and if she has an off night KClark will hopefully pick up the slack. Rebounding could be our achilles heel. Hope not.

If anything just beat Iowa.

I live a distance away but get to several games a year.  General admission is $5 per seat but my wife and I are senior citizens so get in for $3.  Great value especially at the PBA.  Can't even get in a High School game for that.  Bought BTN Plus this year which gives us about 10 VB games and 10 WBB games on TV that we wouldn't otherwise get.  $80 is a great value for that as well.  Maybe season tickets in the future when we aren't traveling as much.

I still don't think most on this board understand how good Kendal Clark was before she got hurt.  Being conf. player of the year in MV conf. means you can flat out play. Avg. 19 ppg on great shooting percentage when teams are gearing up to stop you every night means you can play. -- for comparison purposes Rachel T. is only person on last years team that was good enough to be MV player of year.  Brandi and T sure as heck weren't to that level  -- now whether she can be healthy enough to return to that form or not is another story, but make no mistake prior to injury she was the real deal. Adding her was a huge pick up and really ups our physical toughness level.

So what you are saying is that she is a consistently good 3 point shooter, among other things.  Not sure we have had a consistent 3 point threat from anyone for a while except for Hooper.  We have had some streaky shooters, and I think Romeo can become more consistent from the 3, and Theriot can usually hit from just about anywhere it seems like, but Clark will be solid.  I'm liking the sound of that.  Sometimes when you have one player that is knocking them down, it becomes contagious.  I'm liking the sound of that A LOT.

Natalie shot 38 percent from 3 as a freshman I believe. That is pretty darn consistent.  She can get it off in a hurry and hit from deep.  That will only continue to improve I believe, and she should benefit this year from not always drawing the other teams best perimeter defender like she likely will next year.

i really believe, before natalie leaves nebraska, she will have dropped a dime of 3's on someone (provided she is allowed the looks). i have watched the replay of the illinois tournament game a few times where she had 7. her misses were right on line, too. not far off at all! it is fun to think of having clark, theriot, and romeo on the floor at the same time dropping 3's on some opponent!!!

That of course is after the inside has torn it up

I think that you won't see those three on the floor all that much together.  We will need to have more height to defend the other teams wing where they would have a definite height advantage.  I see those three in a rotation in the one and two positions.  Cincore and Simon rotating at the 3.

yes, should have added a sidenote stating that the possibility of seeing those three on the floor at the same time is almost nil. just something fun to think about.  :)

I wouldn't be surprised if we do see those three on the court at the same time quite a bit. I hope we do, it'd be fun to watch. If you remember last season we went with a three guard lineup. Rachel, Tear'a and Brandi all started and Natalie took over for Rachel when she went down with her bum ankle. Rachel, Nat and Kyndal C. are our three most experienced players. I think all that experience will be really hard to keep off the court. And I think as long as Kyndal stays healthy and painfree she will get 20-25 minutes a game. Now had Chandler Smith still been here I think she would have been one of the starters and received quite a few minutes.

I think the major substitution patterns will be made with the big girls underneath. Basically the only big girl with any sort of playing experience at this level right now is Allie. Jessica, although will get a lot of minutes providing she's healthy enough to play them. I see a liberal 4 player rotation among Allie, Jess, Rachel B, and Darrian in an effort to keep them fresh and gain experience. I think the guards will sub when the time warrants. Right now I see NU going with two big girls on the floor along with those three experienced guards at least in the non conference or until we get some good contributions among the big girls.

Pretty much the way I see it might happen.

We just have too much in play now, in the front court, to not use two inside most of the time. But Jess isn't just a post player. Her game is way beyond that.

All of a sudden we're big.

So maybe Blackburn, Washington, Ostrander as more the true post, with Jess of couse a bit more free to play her game. Havers plays away from the basket some of the time, and with the "new" post players, it may help her 12' to 15' game. (would love to see her drive to the basket more)

Plus we can sure clog up the paint with two bigs on defense.

Actually, right now, we're a little short (pun) on guards, with two out due to injury. Granted we have three excellent probable starters in Rachel, Romero and Clark, but Maddie and Wood don't yet have near the experience. Need to get Jazz & Esther back into the mix.

Like has been hinted at previously... we could see early, more "called" plays offensively, until we can come together a bit more. Called plays can help get the offense going quickly, with a not so experienced roster.

Many new possibilites. It'll be real interesting to see how Connie puts the schemes togetther.

I agree about Jess being more than a post player.  I first saw her play when she was in 4th grade.  I walked into the gym and saw this girl absolutely schooling everyone on the court, even older players.  I saw her playing point guard fairly regularly when she was younger.  She always had a huge smile on her face when she was playing or practicing.  It was obvious she loved the game.  Some kids around that age you can tell that their parents are really pushing them and they maybe don't really want to be there but are doing it for their parents, but not Jess.  I watched her play through junior high and HS.  She has very very good ball handling skills, especially when you consider her height.  Almost like a Delle Donne type, but I don't want to say she is Delle Donne because nobody is Delle Donne but Delle Donne.  But in the sense that she has a variety of skills and can help out in all positions on the court.  There aren't many players like that with a combination of height and size (not a bean pole) and those skills.  She will be a very special player for us and I pray she stays healthy.

I think Maddie Simon is a bit under-rated.  She will need to adjust to the college game, but once she does she will be a solid contributer.  She is another girl I have seen play since she was in 4th grade.  She always stood out to me, and she is extremely athletic and could have also played soccer in college or she could have been a track athlete (maybe even golf?).  She has a good basketball IQ.  She was very hampered with injury her senior year in HS, but it sounds like she is fully recovered now.

I was thinking the same thing about Simon.  She isn't as flashy as some of the others in some respects, but has a tremendous "i'm going to get it done" attitude" and is a player that Coach Yori says is consistently improving over time.  Put that attitude along with her 6'2" athletic body under the tutelage of coach Yori and you will see a big time player developing.

I really think Maddie sort of flew under the radar when it came to recruiting.  She played multiple sports during her youth and HS and didn't focus solely on basketball prior to college, so that could be part of the reason why.  She isn't afraid to do the work to improve her game.  The club team she played on was very well coached and was a solid team.
