Elliott Eliason, in his 3rd year as a Golden Gopher (redshirt soph), is averaging 15 minutes, 2.5 points and 3.9 rebounds while shooting 38.5% from the floor.

Christian Standhardinger leads the Hawaii Rainbows in points at 16.6 per game and is 2nd on the team in rebounds at 7.4. Meanwhile, his teammate, Vander Joaquim is 2nd on the team in points at 14.3 and 1st in rebounds at 7.6. The rainbows lost to Illinois in overtime and beat Notre Dame. They've also lost to ranked UNLV and unranked Pepperdine.

Mike Gesell is the 3rd leading score for the Iowa Hawkeyes in his true freshman season. He's chipping in 8.5 points and dishing 3.3 assists per game while hitting just over 31% from beyond the arc.

Fahro Alihodzic is scoring just a hair under 11 ppg for UAB while grabbing 4.3 boards and hitting 90% of his freethrows.

Jerran Young is averaging 9.6 minutes for Wright State while contributing 2.8 points per game on 41.7% shooting from the floor.

Just in case you wanted to know.

The above players are either: 1) former in-state high school players whom we attempted to recruit; 2) a guy who played here before transferring; or 3) players who had signed letters of intent to play here.

It's my understanding that we backed off of all the kids who were committed to LOIs but never played. It was our decision that they not come here or at least mutual.

Kind of a mixed bag. Vander Joaquim was a big miss on our part, looks like. Elliot Eliason would probably be getting more minutes if he'd come here and would likely be contributing more to the team in terms of statistical productivity.

Jerran Young is a mystery. He's a juco who isn't even logging double figure minutes for Wright State. Looks like probably another player the former staff offered who isn't really capable of playing at this level. That's just from looking at his stats.

The one that probably disappoints me the most, though, would probably surprise everyone. It's not Standhardinger, who would have been a senior this year if he'd stayed. In other words, he'd not be around to help us next year regardless. And it's not Gesell. If the kid wanted to go to Iowa, hey, his choice. I can live with that.

But it sure would be nice to have another big man on the roster for this year and for next year. And Alihodzic was committed and, from what I can tell, wanted to come. I'm guessing Miles wanted his own recruits and he kept Benny and Shavon because he'd developed a relationship with them trying to recruit them to CSU. Seeing how thin we are up front for next year sure makes me wish we'd have kept Fahro in the fold. Releasing him from his LOI may have been a mistake.

He definitely would have come had Miles wanted him so it was sort of a head scratcher. Not sure if it was a personality thing or a desire to recruit towards the future...the skill set definitely would have helped us today and would have almost guaranteed a Vucitec redshirt.

Last but not least, Keith "the potential game changing-dunking refrigerator project" is logging 9 minutes a game for North Texas.

The Coleman huskas4real is talking about is Adrien Coleman. Keith Coleman, who committed to Doc, isn't putting up much in the way of numbers at the school where he landed. Farho is the kid from that class who could have helped us. And would have given us another halfway decent big for next year.

Does anyone think Vucetic could be on the same path as Eliason in terms of what they are contributing?

Doc's prized recruit seems to be doing very well for Wright State. 9 minutes per game. Wow. Doc was booted just in time.

I know Standhardinger wasn't the best citizen while he was here, but he is the player I would like to see most on this team right now.

When I look at the lack of depth on our team, and see the above names, I kind of shake my head. But ya know what, that is the past, now it is the time to look at the future. I hope Coach Miles and our assistants can close on some of the names that we have seen looking at us.

Yeah, no kidding. This might be a completely different team if we had kept some of the players who left or brought in some of the players who signed but never showed. Not even counting the guys we really hoped for but didn't get, like Gesell or Agau. Last year's team with Vander and Christian might have been pretty doggoned decent.

I'm not using this as a moment to look back at what might have been, though. I'm using it as a moment to say that if we can attract the same caliber of recruits as we did under Doc but maybe not let some of the better ones get away for one reason or another, that we could be OK. And that's if we only do as well on the recruiting front, which was always one of the knocks on Doc, that his recruiting left something to be desired. If we do better at recruiting ...

I thought last year Tubby ranked him up there with the best centers in U of M history. Maybe I was doing Nyquil shots.....

Watched Beranek play last night for Doane, obviously is a heck of a shooter with good range. Will be a great player at Doane, probably an all-american type NAIA guy by his junior/senior year. Coach Weeks has done a great job of already getting a lot of quality players at Doane around Beranek, he did a lot of catch and shoot last night, had other guys to create shots for him. That being said he probably would have played some minutes on this year's NU team because of the situation we are in.
