First off great for them!!  Nicely done!!

I think that Marrow is our best chance and Watson has an outside shot.  Jacobson I do not think will get it, but wow... fellas... that is three 3 THREE of our recruits.

We went through this a few years ago.  In some states, you might find a hundred or so players nominated.  Doesn't mean they're legit candidates.  It's not like the Wooden Award Watch List where they focus on legit candidates.

Congrats and everything, but in my understanding, it doesn't necessarily take much to get nominated.

This.  My initial thought when I read the thread title was, "Isn't everyone nominated for McDonald's AA?"

The state of Nebraska only had one nominee (Justin Patterson)

I don't believe we've had a McD's All-American on the roster before.

It looks like Kerry Trotter from Creighton Prep in '82 is the only Nebraskan to make a Men's team.

This came up before.  I think both Nathan Hawkins and his HS Teammate who went to OSU were nominated.  And maybe a third kid on that team as well.  Texas alone had something more than 100 nominations that year.  And they weren't all serious contenders.

Posted

Just for a little bit of context, there were 82 boys from the State of California alone who were nominated.

Of the five players in Iowa who were nominated, 3 were from one team.  And that one team, North Scott High, isn't even one of the top 2 or 3 teams in the State of Iowa.  Let alone the very best.  So, how did they manage to get 3 of the 5 nominations from the State of Iowa?

Sooooo, there's a huge difference between being nominated for the McDonald's AA Game and actually getting selected to play in the thing.

I thought Joe McCray was.  No wait, his was based on in-restaurant performance....

Speaking of Joe McCray, what do you suppose he's up to these days?  Pushing 300?  I suspect whatever his diet lacks in quality, he makes up for in quantity.

...it is still a nice honor.

Well, that's pretty much why I posted it here. Didn't expect this to get dumped on... NU needs all the positive vibes these future players have attained. Really looking forward to seeing Watson & Morrow on the court next year!!

Sorry.  Didn't mean to dump on your thread.  Was more responding to the 2nd post.

Gotcha. It amazes me that a nice AA nomination is met with so much skepticism... hopefully at least 1 of 'em will get selected for the game! GBR

When last seen, Joe was looking pretty good playing for Delta State.  He was a double figure scorer and was shooting 3's at about a 40% pace.  That was about seven or eight years ago.  Jackman is quite a bit older...unless Joe is a total balloon or dead, I would bet on him. :)

If Bill Jackman played Joe McCray RIGHT now, one-on-one, who wins and why?

Not sure, but it might go something like this:

Pssh, with a Big Mac on the line?  McCray would beat these punks hands down!

9 Uncommitteds.   Hmmm....

That's part of the world we live in. Players are in flux because guys may or may not go to the NBA.

They're ping-ponging between the Kentuckys and Dukes of the world so the likelihood of guys like that falling to us is 0% (rounded) Trickle down economics aren't that great in college basketball either.

We could replace it with a system where the National Collegiate Central Planning Athletics Association assigns high school kids to colleges on a random basis.  That would eliminate a lot of the silly drama like which color hat some kid decides to put on at an all-school assembly when he announces "I'm taking my talents to ..."

Of course, then you still have to worry about trickle-down playing time, which hasn't worked out very well for Nick Fuller or Jacob Hammond so far.  Maybe the Central Planners could mandate a playing rotation as well.  Each kid has to get so many minutes.  And a participation ribbon, too.
