Another part of the article that stood out, and gets me pumped for the season to start.

"The same can be said for the six freshmen eager to show what they can do."

“They all looked natural out there,” Cady said. “For sure, they are all competitors. They have that fire.”

And Kalenta's not even here yet....she will add to the inside depth.

I've said before.... Yori and staff, have got a wonderful problem to deal with....getting them all up to speed, and on the floor.

Is it possible we could see subs in waves this year?  Maybe I'm dreamimg, that it could work out that well.

I was thinking earlier today on how the substitution rotation would work, if Yori plays all of the kids like she did when Griffin & company. Let me start it off with this Cady, Sample, Page, Theriot , Laudermill. The next five Havers,Jeffery,Romeo,Kalenta,Smith.

Thanks for posting, Row 6. That bundle of personality in the middle of the front row with the hat on is Jasmine Cincore. Very impressive young lady. To her right (facing the camera) is Natalie Romeo, and to her left next to Hailee is Emily Wood; both are outgoing and articulate. To the left of Emily Cady is Kaylee Page, and to Kaylee's left is Chandler Smith. Both are very well-spoken and personable. Chandler grew up on a ranch in eastern Washington and wants to explore greater Nebraska. The last newcomer is Darrien Washington, on the far left of the photo next to Tee. A true 5; she provides some size in the post we haven't had in a few years. This staff recruits character; when meeting the kids it jumps out at you: These kids have good parents.

90 days and counting!

Thanks for the info HB! Maybe JHoop can come back here for a few days and take Chandler out west to the Alliance ranch and show her (what I'm sure Chandler's heard many times) the basketball court Jordan and her brother made over their grandma's garden.

(If you click on the picture above it will open up in another window and become larger.)

How tall is Darrien Washington?  Or is the ground a little uneven where the girls posed for the photo?

Must be uneven ground.....otherwise Washington is about 3" taller than Havers which would make Washington about 6'-8"   :D

Ah yes, The Fastbreakers Board of Directors.  A group of 20 people whose only function seems to be to smooze with the team and spend money donated to the womens program. Can someone tell me what this group does to justify having twenty members or what ever number it happens to be.

Bitter much?

But to answer your question, well, historically, quite a bit. That has lessened the past few years through no fault of any of those fine volunteers. The athletic department has virtually taken over all functions of the booster groups. Across the sports, booster group leaders are feeling more irrelevant--talk to some of the Home Run Club board members for example. But back in the day, volunteers did a ton of volunteer work for the program. When we had 500 people attending the games, the board did it all--it was the only group promoting women's basketball through merchandise sales at games, running the booster luncheons (for way more people than just the board), put on fundraising events left and right where the money went directly to the program. When the budget wasn't anything like it is now. This group has also always done a lot to promote season ticket sales and attendance at games. Over the years the efforts of the board and the booster club provided the funds for foreign trips, video equipment, supplies, improvements to the basketball offices, you name it.

And even now, in the last several years, the board members have provided all the organization and volunteer work for 2 highly successful women's basketball golf events and a 5k run event which raised considerable funds for the program and also served as promotional events and generating enthusiasm for the fan base. Have you ever called on more than 100 businesses to ask for donations for flag prizes, raffles, and auction items? Try it sometime and see if you feel under-worked and over-rewarded.

Any thought that the Board SPENDS money donated to the program is false. The board has always been involved in RAISING money for the program. The picnic referenced in this thread involved no program funds; the entire event was done with donated food from the volunteers. Also, there are currently WAY fewer than 20 board members. I am not on the Board, but I'm not going to let you throw out an unfair shot to people who have always done a lot for the program without pointing out that your statements above are blatantly false (and by the way, the word is "schmooze"). I would also mention that all of the board members make substantial contributions to women's basketball. Do you?

Bitter much, I spent many years on the Board of Directors so I know what I talk of.  Back in my time we did a lot.  Now not so much.  Why are 20 board members needed to accomplish the little that they do now.  Just as you say the Husker Athletic Fund now sucks up to 30% of the Fastbreaker funds and gives very little in return.  I now belong to a group who has set up a fund with the foundation and our donations go 100% to the women's basketball team to be used at their discretion.  From the reaction to my earlier post, I assume HB and Row 6 are board members.

Excited for this season. Can't wait to see how the vets improved and new faces on the court.

I'm going to catch the Wayne State game. In town for Purdue game and all that. Added bonus get to see Sadie play again and also some of the Nebraska girls I've been watching for years as well.

Your assumptions are as wrong as your potshots at good fans and volunteers are unfair and absurd. I am not a board member. I was on the board and was an officer long before you saw the light of day on the board, and when we had to do all the work. There are not 20 board members, but go ahead and believe what you want. Finally, even if you don't like how the Husker Athletic Fund is set up (primarily it took things away from the individual booster clubs to provide oversight for NCAA compliance), no need for you to have a beef with the current board members. They support the program, and do nothing to harm it. Take it up with the coaches and staff; I'm sure you'll find a sympathetic ear.

The freshmen on the last day of summer practices!

The newcomers alone could field a pretty salty team.  I'm very optimistic about the future of this ballclub.  Hooper was a big piece of the puzzle, no doubt.  And she'll be difficult to replace.  And it'll take a bit for the freshmen and juco to get up to speed.  However, you're looking at a PG, a SG and a SF who were all ranked in the top 100 recruits by ESPN Hoopgurlz.  And then you have a proven scorer and rebounder in Kalenta coming in.

If Connie Yori was starting a team from scratch, that would be a pretty damn good starting place, no?

I really like the looks of Chandler Smith! To me she just looks like a hard nosed ballplayer! I've heard she's a fast learner and a good shot!

Although from what I gather the kid was starting to develop a major case of homesickness! She's back home in Washington state now finding the cure and I hope she's getting anxious to get on that 747 and get her buns back down here!
