I as of yet haven't been able to find a public announcement making it official but I'm hearing strong rumors that Rachel Blackburn committed to the Huskers today.

Welcome Rachel!! :)

more to come when info becomes available.

I confirmed with a pretty good source that it is true.  I mentioned her on here for the first time a while back. I think Nu fans will love her. She is a tough kid who should be a great player for the huskers.

Have more Ks kids than Nebraska kids in a couple years.  If Lanie jumps on board NU could have 4.

Kansas,  what are the chances the Johnson gal will join her?

Birds -- the Johnson girl is really good and I like how they both play. They compliment each other very well.  I don't personally know where the Johnson girl will end up but I have heard Nu is on the short list of 4 or 5 schools along with ku, ou and others.

Kansas could you refresh my memory of what class she will be in.

I'm not Kansas, but I believe she's a 2015 recruit, so sign in November and enter school in August 2015.

Both Rachel and Tyler Johnson are 2015 hs grads.  They are the same grade as Lanie Page.

I assume we still have room for Lanie in the '15 class.  Hafta be getting fullish.  Bringing in 7 newcomers for '14.  That's half a roster right there.

Retired Army Colonel here...

Rachel Blackburn called Coach Yori on Wednesday morning and accepted coach Yori's offer to attend the University of Nebraska and play basketball for the Huskers.

Later in the morning Coach Yori called me with the great news.  We're very happy Rachel has decided to become a Husker.  We've been so impressed with everyone and everything we've seen.

Regarding player rankings...  I'll just throw this out there for what it's worth...  Wake Forest really wanted Rachel.  They are an extremely classy group of people.  I have nothing but good things to say about Wake Forest, and I hope they do well in the ACC.  It was very difficult for Rachel to say no to them.  Coach Mike Terry probably came to more of Rachel's games than anyone in the country.  A few weeks ago he sent me a note that contained the following about Rachel...

"She plays so hard and is so physical and tough in all that she does.  These are not the highlight reel plays that catch most peoples attention, but they are the things that help great teams win games as a unit...  I, after as many years of doing this, really don't pay much attention to these rankings.  What I think many miss on Rachel is her unparalleled work ethic, desire to compete and her level of commitment to her teammates and her team's success..."

Time will tell...

Rachel and Lainey Paige have become good friends.  They play in a KC tournament this weekend.

Thanks for your post Dlrrk,

Your comments on rankings is spot on. Yori doesn't place a great deal on them either.  The important thing for a new NU student athletete, is high character...and it's highly valued in these parts, by the coaching staffs and fans alike. Rachel has it or she wouldn't have been pursued by NU.

As along time fan....I have to say we're all very excited that your daughter has committed to Nebraska.

And as a fellow dad....I think you have to be thrilled your daughter has taken the next big step in her life.

Congratulations to both of you.

We should have six scholarships available after next years seniors graduate Norm. That leaves us with 3 yet to give by my count.

may not use them all though because then they would only have 2 each of the following 2 years I think. Class sizes would be getting a bit out of balance.

Might use a redshirt here and there to balance out the classes.

Thanks norm I couldn't remember what class she would be in.

Reports say a disgruntled scream could be heard in Omaha coming from the east Wednesday afternoon.

Later that night the whereabouts of the scream were pen-pointed and it was said to originate from the women's basketball office in Iowa City shortly after finding out NU landed another quality player that will most certainly help in keeping the Huskers win streak alive over their own black and yellow team.  :P
