TheKamdyMan Posted April 9, 2014 Report Posted April 9, 2014 So not sure what will come of it but Devonte Graham was finally released from his LOI to Appalachian State today. Hes a kid that had a monster of a senior season after signing with ASU. Teams like Virginia, kansas etc are entering the picture. Miles is supposedly visiting him tomorrow though. The kid is legit and curious to see what happens with him. Nebrasketballer and Norm Peterson 2 Quote

Huskerpapa Posted April 9, 2014 Report Posted April 9, 2014 Looks like a player. Also looks as if a bit of controversy has been surrounding him since he signed with ASU. Not his own doing...yet it has followed him a bit. Quote
Norm Peterson Posted April 9, 2014 Report Posted April 9, 2014 Ho Lee Crap. That there's a big deal. Haf to see if somethin comes of it. Quote
BrasketballIfYouNeedThem Posted April 9, 2014 Report Posted April 9, 2014 Sounds like Kansas is the heavy lean. Quote
Norm Peterson Posted April 9, 2014 Report Posted April 9, 2014 I hope not Kansas. I hope we're in the picture. I like this kid from watching his video. I realize what Coach Miles says about mixtapes and highlights, but there are some kids you won't come up with these kinds of highlights no matter how many hours of film you comb through. This kid does some nice things. He obviously has really good handles and he has very good court vision and is able to find and hit the open guy, not only in transition but in the half court as well. No wonder his recruitment heated up. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uGDRvddjXtU Nebrasketballer 1 Quote
Nebrasketballer Posted April 9, 2014 Report Posted April 9, 2014 Would Nebraska be able to sign both Graham and Smith in the 2014 class? I would think that if Nebraska signs Graham, then they might lose out on Smith, which would be bad, because then Nebraska would likely lose out on his teammate in the 2015 class (Rivals150 SF Markis McDuffie). I would love to see Nebraska land both Smith and Graham, but the only way I see Nebraska taking 2 PGs in this class is if Webster moves to 2nd string SG (to take spot of Hawkins) and if Parker transfers (maybe following Craig Smith). I just really like both Tarrin Smith and Markis McDuffie and it seems like Nebraska has a shot to land them both. I would hate for Nebraska to miss out on that opportunity. Quote
Norm Peterson Posted April 9, 2014 Report Posted April 9, 2014 Would also love to have his teammate, #11, Isaac Copeland -- going to G'town. Ozzie and Nebrasketballer 1 1 Quote
Norm Peterson Posted April 9, 2014 Report Posted April 9, 2014 There's a reason Miles is going to look at this kid and it's not just to see what he can see. If he's going it's because he's interested. Nebrasketballer 1 Quote
throwback Posted April 9, 2014 Report Posted April 9, 2014 I think NU could sign 2 guards for the 2014-15 season - we have just two/three guards on scholarship now, depending on how you classify Petteway - we need two more, especially since Parker can't really play the 2. I have to think NU is looking at another combo guard who could play 1 or 2, maybe Graham is it. Hopefully Tai can play more of that combo role next season as well and give us plenty of flexibility with rotations. Even if we wouldn't sign a HS guard like Graham to go with Smith, I'd have to think we'd be looking at a senior-eligible transfer or a juco who would be a guard and would be immediately eligible. Have to think Coach wants four/five guards on the roster, even with a player like Petteway who can play a point-forward type of position and/or play the 2. I can't imagine we lose Smith, regardless of who we attempt to sign in the next few weeks. It's a guard's game after all. Quote
Norm Peterson Posted April 9, 2014 Report Posted April 9, 2014 Pure speculation but if Graham commits, would we stay involved with Tarin Smith? I don't know. I don't like the idea of taking a commit and then backing out of it. Situational ethics, though. If it meant signing a kid like Devonte Graham, would you make an exception to your usual "We're sticking with the guy who committed to us" rule? Benny is going nowhere (i.e., not transferring). Tai is going to come back a much better player and could potentially fill the bill at SG and at point. Maybe you redshirt Smith and play Graham so you don't have 2 points in the same graduating class. But this is a kid that I would love to see us pull in. Nebrasketballer 1 Quote

Tai would probably like the freedom to look for his shot more. Still need to find a big. Need to find a big, athletic, shot-blocking, rim-protecting, glass-cleaning powerhouse inside. hhcmatt Posted April 9, 2014 Report Posted April 9, 2014 if Webster moves to 2nd string SG (to take spot of Hawkins) Who exactly is the first string SG? Quote
ShortDust Posted April 9, 2014 Report Posted April 9, 2014 I think they try and get both and do what throwback say add guard depth. Adding grahmam would allow smith to take on a smaller role from the beginning. I think miles tries to get 2 bigs and one more guard and graham could be that guy. One of the bigs will be the senior transfer. I like the chances of the guy leaving gtown. This is where we find out what hunter has in store for recruiting. Nebrasketballer 1 Quote

TheKamdyMan Posted April 9, 2014 Author Report Posted April 9, 2014 I honestly could see a combo line rotation of Graham/Webster Smith/Parker etc for the guards and in whatever combo there is to give Nebraska situational matchups. I think its much like UCONN having Boatright and Napier, both of which are point guards. We all know Miles said he liked having two guards that could play the point on the floor at the same time. This could be his thinking. Nebrasketballer and ShortDust 2 Quote

Norm Peterson Posted April 9, 2014 Report Posted April 9, 2014 Man, Tim, if you can pull another rabbit out of your hat, this would be a good one. When do the next set of Rivals rankings come out? I could see this kid launching into the top 150 and passing a bunch of other kids on the way. Quote

AuroranHusker Posted April 10, 2014 Report Posted April 10, 2014 Devonte it is. Nice combo guards are hard to come by this late in the game. Go get him, Miles & Co.! Quote
Section_316 Posted April 10, 2014 Report Posted April 10, 2014 To get a visit is really nice, would be a huge get…. Too lazy to look up the PG situation at the other schools mentioned (Providence, KU, Virginia). Its really hard to find those legit 6'4-6'6" shooting guards. We are very fortunate that TP can be that guy if we want. I see no problem in having multiple guards under 6'2 as long as one or two of them can defend the 2 spot (I see no reason Tai couldn't) Quote
