It's Texas. What can you do?

I'm not the biggest Roy Williams fan, but I have to give him credit for handling that with class. There are more than a few coaches who would have lost their minds in that spot.

He should have. If the clock shows time, then calling a timeout can be delayed. In a one possession game, not having the time be accurate affects when you call the timeout. It should have been reset to the time the ball went through the hoop and restarted there. Then call time or rush up but inaccurate time keeping is correctable.

But the clock had hit 00 before he got the time out. If you go back a watch then do a 1000 count the game is over before theplayer hit mid court.

Agreed, but if the clock was running they might not have tried to advance or might have taken a shot at 3/4 court, but based on the information available they tried to use the time they thought they had.

I wanted ISU to win and have never pulled for UNC, but the incompetence is inexcusable.

Did you guys hear or see what happened in Chapel Hill during the UT Martin / No.Carolina women's game ? UT Martin got the BIG shaft.

No what happened

UNC had a lock down of all buildings as a gunman was on campus, no one knew anything about it at the arena until UT Martin had the ball down 2 with 18 second to go in the game and UT Martin had called a time out when it was announced that the lock down had been lifted. So UT Martin spent the first time out listening to what was going on and had to use the last TO get the play called and missed a 3 at the buzzer. Plus there was some very shady officiating in the second half.

Wow, that's a crazy situation. Hope no one was affected in 'real life'.

Since there was a clock operator error on the in bound play, I was surprised they didn't reset back to right after the made basket and give UNC the ball on the endline with 1.6 remaining. Don't really know what the rule on that sort of thing is but IMO that would have been a better end than the way it did happen.

The clock operator was indeed in error.  Yet, North Carolina folded in that game.  They failed in transition defense and that led to a game that was closer than it should have been at the end.  Plus, the NC blew it by not calling a time-out immediately after the made basket.  Once they inbounded the ball, it was over.

When the clock operator error was discovered an attempt was made to correct the situation. The correction was to take time OFF the clock and end the game. Could they not just as easily have reset the circumstances to right after the made basket? Is this a judgment call on the part of the officials or are there rules about how it should be done? I don't know and would like to learn from it. It just SEEMS like an officiating error should be correctable with a preference to ending play on the court. I'm glad ISU got the win but I don't like how the game ended.

This makes sense, but I don't know either. Often times after those late game makes, they decide to stop the game to take a look and make sure the clock was stopped appropriately after the make and end up adding a couple tenths back on. Did they do this? I was listening on the radio at this point. Does the coach have to request something like this? Or how does it go down? If UNC immediately inbounded the ball they should've had an understanding that there was very little time left and would be able to try a half court heave at best. So, with that in mind, maybe that's why they would forgo any option to reset back to the point of inbound. But like I said, I was just listening on radio so I may not have the specifics worked out here.
