2014 Class is shaping up

During all the excitement of NCAA tournament, I think behind the scenes of recruiting I think the new incoming 2014 class is falling into place to help us alot.

 

PG Tarin Smith 6'2"  another good size guard

 

C Jacob Hammonds 6'10"  another needed big

 

Wing  Nick Fuller 6'7"   with Nick redshirting makes him a freshman thats ready to help right away

 

I think the last 2014 scholarship may get rolled over since you only lose Rivers and Leslie next year and now you can have 3 scholarships for 2015 class (Keanu Pinder has a verbal commit for 1 scholarship) leaving 2 to use.

It seems like Hammond grows and shrinks.  He is somewhere between 6'9" and just a shade south of 7'.

As has been mentioned on the recruiting board quite a bit, it wouldn't surprise me to see NU try to use that last scholarship on a senior grad transfer with 1 year of eligibility, thereby accomplishing the same thing you mentioned.

 

The other thing the coaches really have to be mindful of - and it seems that they have been mindful of this with the 2 commits thus far - is most of this team returns next season. The team chemistry is outstanding right now. You want to make sure you're bringing in guys who will be able to mesh easily with the team you have now. 

 

As we saw with the "addition by subtraction" roster move earlier this season, you certainly now don't want to do a "subtraction by addition" with whomever you bring in for 2014-15. You have to look for a guy with a mix of talent and an ability to fit in, not just talent alone, to maintain this impressive team chemistry for what should be another very successful season in 2014-15.

Honestly, we need to take two more this year. I'd like to get Deng Deng and a senior grad transfer big. Vooch seems like a good dude, but he'll never contribute to this team.

I'd take Deng Deng assuming he'd be willing to redshirt.  With the broken ankle I'd want him to rehab and make sure he's good to go.  Then it also separates him from what would be an overly large junior class.

Find a post transfer, replace with Vooch with Deng, then start working on 2015 and 2016.  

 

We need to get on Ed Morrow, I have a feeling he will blow up soon.  He played very well against Cliff Alexander and Jahlil Okafor this year.  Then we need to find an outside shooter.  I really like Andrew Fleming.

Completely understand that but he just had surgery for a broken ankle. Can anyone guarantee he will be 100% by the start of the season?
