His mom is a regular poster over on the Underground site and everybody fawns over her and says things about her son that they have no idea about just to have something to say to her.

It's creepy.

First of all, I wanted to say thanks to bleujay for that perspective.  That sheds some light on what I've been reading.

Second, I noticed the mom thing.  And I can't decide which is worse:  posters fawning over her or her posting there to begin with.  Frankly, I would not want to have to monitor what I say about a kid simply because the parent is a regular.  I love Shavon Shields, but he's had moments where he's not been his best and people have posted threads about him being in a slump.  Do you think people would feel comfortable posting such things if they knew Will Shields was a regular poster here?  Not a chance.

On the one hand, I understand her desire to keep up with what's going on in her son's life, but on the other hand, she's got to cut the apron strings or whatever metaphor you prefer.  Time to let your boy grow up.  Time to let him make his own way.  Time to just watch from a distance.  The best way to not let it get to you when people have unflattering things to say about your kid is to log out of your account and just back away from the computer.

I think JoJo visited some decent schools recently. He is at a really good school. He is no where near Watson's level. I think he will be sought after after the early period as kids come off the board. I thought we cooled on Leon due to off court stuff? I think he is a decent player. The guy I want to learn about is Big Elbert. Lol

Apparently, Elbert has lost 30 pounds and is looking to lose another 20 more.  Appears he's serious about getting in and being in good shape for basketball.  The door is open at LSU for him to step in if he puts forth the work.

I really like the McQuaid kid who decommited from SMU he fits Creifhton perfectly.

Sounds like he's down to just Texas, Michigan State and Creighton.  Interesting grouping of schools.  Of all the options he had, it makes you wonder how he narrowed it down to just those three.

I've read some articles that say really good things about him at LSU. Yeah, McQuaid is a our shooter, I don't think he is real dynamic. I think Creighton lands him I'm not sold on the interest by MSU.

I would say he's a dynamic player. He isn't going to jump out of the gym but he's fast and, more importantly, fast with the ball because he has such a polished handle for a 2 guard in high school. His jump shot opens up the rest of his floor game, for sure, but those that call him one dimensional are definitely selling him short. If CU lands McQuad I would be ecstatic. He's got some major baby face going on, that combined with his incredibly lithe frame leads me to believe his body isn't finished growing/ filling out. That or he'll be another baby faced killa  ;)

Honestly, she is going to have a tough time if she keeps posting on that website.  There will be a point in time where Leon is struggling and he will be called out by the message board.  The way she talks it would not surprise me one bit if he finds himself transferring back home after a year or two.

Will Shields would scare the bejeebers out of me...Leon's mom...not so much!

You ever met Leon's mom?

(I can say that b/c she doesn't post here.  ;) )

Gilmore's problem, if there is one, is that Kreklow entered the equation late at the SF position. Ratings don't take into account the situation a player encounters. For instance, Tai looked like he didn't live up to his hype because he got so many minutes at PG last season and made so many turnovers. We're seeing this summer how good he can be when he's not the primary ball handler. So were the forecasts wrong, or did he just struggle with the role he had?

I'm not saying ratings are perfect by any stretch, but they measure physical attributes first and foremost. For instance, Michael Jacobson is seriously undervalued, imo. I'd guess he'll start his last three years and get a rousing ovation on senior night. That's a better result than half the guys in the top 150 will get.

Very very very good points.

Apparently, college ball has been a bit of an adjustment for Leon.

See Webster, Tai

Guys like Leon and Tai are rated where they are for a reason...potential.

It's up to them to fulfill it.

Of course, Tai was the day-one starter on an NCAA tourney team.  Only Fran Fraschilla had him ranked in the Top 150 recruits.  Rivals didn't rank him at all and, according to Verbal Commits, Scout game him 1 star.

Gilmore, OTOH, was a Rivals 150 player who is joining a team that just lost 4 starters, including the guy at his position.

I can certainly see why Bluejay fans would have anticipated a recruit like that would be able to come in and fill a void and I can certainly understand why many of them would be disappointed with what they're hearing.  I think a lot of Husker fans were disappointed, for example, with the way the much-hyped Andre Almeida performed.  (Anyone remember the NBA discussions?)

I guess one thing for me that really surprises me is where he apparently is deficient.  I would not have expected to hear that he's so lacking in skill, considering his extra training and so forth.

He's not a good shooter and he has no right hand. Apparently it's a very noticeable drawback to his ballhandling. He almost always has to go left. Those types of things are much less of a hindrance in high school than in college. His style of play is 'bully ball' - it's a lot easier to pull that off against high school level competition than Division 1 college players.

As I said before, I think he would fill a needed role off the bench this coming season. He could give us minutes at the 4, defend, rebound, slash for the occasional bucket, start fastbreaks etc - But on the flip side, if the coaches redshirt him we'll know why and trust that it was the right move. Him RS'ing will only mean that Ronnie gets more minutes this coming season, which IMO is the best thing they can do for the program at this point. Kreklow could be playing a factor in this as well - not sure how I feel about that considering he'll be gone after one year, whereas this decision will affect Leon's entire CU experience
