The problem with Nebraska's student section is none of this kids have grown up knowing Nebrasketball success or tradition.  There are probably 30-40 kids that are die-hards, the rest go for something to do.  With all that Miles did at CSU, I'm a little disappointed he hasn't done more to get students there.  Of course, I'm not a student so maybe he's done more than we know.

And let me be clear: the 30-40 that are there and really care are fantastic, it's just the rest that are disappointing.  I was a student for the '05-06 through '08-09 seasons and couldn't stand when people ripped on the students cause there were some of us that were very good.  So if you're reading this and are a student getting mad about being ripped on, just know we notice some of you are great.  Now you need to get more friends to be just as loud.

Agree with you. I appreciate and take notice of the diehards that do show up. I think the problem with our student body (and more so within the Greek system, who could absolutely ignite the student section) is that it is 'below' them to sit within the student section.

I'm not a fan of the, "Who cares, you suck!" chant they do when the opposing players are are announced.  Not too imaginative, IMO.  I always liked it when they held up newspapers, as if they were more interested in reading the news than hearing the announcements.

Basketball is big in Utah.  The Utes, Aggies, Webber State and BYU have all been good teams over the years.  Utah St. has been almost an annual visitor to the NCAA tourney under Stew Morrill.

I read an article (or saw something on ESPN) about this a few years ago, I think it coincided with all 4 or 5 (or 6 or however many there are) DI schools in Utah making some kind of postseason tournament.  Apparently, one of the major factors they cite for their basketball success and passion in Utah is that every Mormon church has a hoop, and kids are encouraged to play.

So, in Utah, hoops is about as close to a religion as you can get.

This reminds me of the time when I was one of the few students in the Red Zone during a winter break game, and during the opponent's introductions, I did the "volleyball clap" together with the cheerleaders and got some ribbing for it on the forums.

Of course, I don't know what the student section at the Bank is like, since the only MBB game I managed to get to was The Citadel.  Sort of hard to be simultaneously in Lincoln and Evanston when I am not on break :)

And NeeandMe, I was in your boat too!  Unfortunately, the enthusiasm seemed to dwindle after the "Mighty Mites" season.

Coolest thing our student section has done is have two lesbians make out behind the opponents basket while shooting free throws....but it's been probably four years since that happened.

Heh...this is the first time I've ever heard that described as "cool"

First of all, it worked. Clank, clank! Secondly, chicks making out! I don't care if you're liberal or conservative, that's cool to see anytime!

I was front row for that game and the action.  I found it somewhat offputting as did the shooter ;)

The holding up the newspapers is actually a big thing at Michigan State.

Edit: Also by that time my newspaper is already confetti.

How true.  Bravo.  I just can't believe I missed it.
