Pack in a zone and make them shoot. We've really given up nothing but points in the paint + free throws.

That is a foolproof method for beating UMass but, for some unknown reason, not very frequently employed. That said, on occasion UMass can rain threes so a team can get burned trying it.

Chaz is too good at attacking the zone, IMO.  I think we pack in M2M and make them shoot jumpers.  I've seen one guy who has a nice looking pull up and 5 guys that are excellent at getting to the rim.  Gotta try something else.  Pick and roll D has been pretty good though.

That's Seth Berger a true freshman from Washington. he was recruited by Gonzaga but choose Umass.  He was highly rated 3/4 player. He is the future of Umass up front . He has played very little this season so far. But with 3 games in 4 days they have to extend the bench. 

 

 

I wondered. 

 

 

The little he has played this season he has looked like a deer in headlights and has fouled often.  He was a star in his HS region and won all sorts of Washington state awards but he is still adapting to the college game and being in the Northeast.  He'll be real good soon just not today or this season.   But he is prob Umass' best FT shooter sadly enogh

The guys on the UMass message board sound a lot like Iowa fans.  Sort of an undeserved sense of entitlement...and healthy disrespect for the 'Skers.

Chaz might be too experienced to let his team lose.  We control him down the stretch we obviously have a much better chance.  Who is going to be our go to guy down the stretch.  Who will not be afraid to win.  That is the tough part about this season.  Learning to win is not easy.

We are not a very well coached team today. Peltz's pushoff on a meaningless rebound gave UMass a 3 point lead instead of 1 point lead at halftime. Mistakes like that come back to bite you in the end. Especially from a scrub.

 

Not really sure what that has to do with coaching.  If Miles needed to tell Peltz not to foul there then Peltz should probably see his minutes drop down to zero. 

 

There were a lot of bonehead plays on offense and defense that half, right down to pushing a guy in the back with 4 seconds left and giving them 2 points. And yeah, Miles instructions on that possession should have been don't shoot until under 4 seconds left on game clock and don't contest the rebound. We took a poor shot with too much time left and fouled on the rebound. Maybe he did say that stuff, but to steal a line from Bo Pelini, we didn't execute it at all.

Chaz Williams is known for having monster 2nd half's. Don't be surprised to see a 15 point half out of him esp with so many players on Nebraska with 2 fouls. he will be driving to the basket a great deal.   It would behoove Nebraska to try to get Chaz to pick up his 3rd foul soon.
