The amount of major new construction going on down in the Haymarket just blows my mind. And I think these buildings are going to be pretty cool. With this new entertainment district going into effect, the atmosphere in and around the PBA is going to be unparalleled. It's not just that we have a new gym for our hoops team. That's pretty cool by itself. But downtown Lincoln is going to be robust in a way you've never imagined. What's going on down there right now is jaw-dropping for people who've lived in this city most of their lives. Nebrasketballer 1 Quote

There's an open field next to a gigantic pile of rocks and some old warehouse-looking buildings. If you leveled all of that and cleaned it up, you could put in another bunch of businesses and some parking and then build a much shorter pedestrian bridge over the RR tracks with substantially closer access to the PBA than what would currently exist. Plus there would be direct egress to West O Street for people leaving the arena. Is there any chance? Quote

I have no idea, but to me, it would make sense for the city to push for development all the way west to the river/creek and all the way south to 'O' St. There are alot of entertainment/retail/business options with riverfront/riverwalk development. Regardless, 99% sure they're planning on redeveloping the entire area in the long run so you can reasonably assume that that area will be cleaned up in on way or another Quote

Concrete Posted July 11, 2013 Report Posted July 11, 2013 I might be wrong but I think the city tried to fix up the bottoms a few years ago but they weren't allowed to by whoever owns the land because of some legal issues the city agreed to years ago. Perhaps there's a lawyer on here who can shed some light on that. Quote

There will some nice new restaurants/bars to eat/drink at before/after Nebraska basketball/baseball/football games (or whenever, not just before/after games). Gates, Vega, Barcade, Jack&Junes, BuffaloWings&Rings, JimmyJohns, Mellow Mushroom, Hiro I'm pretty pumped about Mellow Mushroom coming to Lincoln. Quote

The amount of construction going on downtown is more than I ever saw in the first 27 years of my existence. Right now more than anything, I am hoping Lincoln can support all of the new businesses opening up, as well as the established ones in the old-Haymarket. Quote

This should be, it must be a party type area...there are certainly those who will oppose that direction. Quote

I thought that the land was so contaminated that it was going to be turned into a wind farm or some other form of renewable energy that was going to power that area. Quote

I'm not sure exactly where it is going, but it will be somewhere in the 'Rail Yard' on Canopy St, about a block away from Pinnacle Bank Arena. Yeah, this will be the first Mellow Mushroom in Nebraska. Most of them are in the southeast. Mainly SEC country and a few ACC states. Of Big Ten and Big 12 states, I think there are a few in Texas, 1 in Indiana, a couple in Ohio, and now 1 in Lincoln, Nebraska. Quote
