colhusker Posted August 12, 2013 Report Posted August 12, 2013 Invoking Durant? Really? Let's chillax on that. Author is a young college student that gets a wee bit excited. Quote
busticket Posted August 12, 2013 Report Posted August 12, 2013 I have never seen Walter play but had heard he was pretty athletic for his size. That dunk was way more than pretty athletic! Coach Miles certainly has way more in his tool box to work with this year, both from a depth perspective but athletically as well. Is it bad that I'm more excited for basketball season than football? 49r 1 Quote

Nope. And FWIW, I am in the same boat. I mean, sure, football's gonna be good and all, challenge for the league title, yadda yadda...but what's happening in hoops is just downright thrilling! huskerbaseball13 Posted August 12, 2013 Report Posted August 12, 2013 This came across twitter a bit ago. BRASKAball @BRASKAball 5h If you'd like to see what Walter Pitchford @Takeflight35 is capable of, he's #1 on this dunk countdown. http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ELR_Ms84200 … Heard he verticle measured at 41.5' recently. That's pretty insane for a big man. Quote

These next few years are the most important years in the history of the program. We have a new coach who has landed some very promising recruits and there's also the arena and practice facilities that are some of the best in the country. We saw how hard the team played last year, just imagine what Miles can do with a more talented roster. Quote
lang Posted August 12, 2013 Report Posted August 12, 2013 41.5 for 6'10" ....."take flight 35" indeed ! Quote

bobcat402 Posted August 13, 2013 Report Posted August 13, 2013 we'll never have to yell at a bigman too dunk the dang ball for the next couple of years....thats thrilling. Quote
meerkat68901 Posted August 13, 2013 Report Posted August 13, 2013 Not to be a Debbie Downer, but I really question that 41.5" vert from the times I've seen Pitchford in person and on film. Definitely can play above the rim, though. look forward to seeing how well he can develop as an offensive threat. Been awhile since we had a legit presence inside. Quote

Ok, I guess. They obviously just tested out or self tested. I guess I don't see a reason for him to lie. Probably spent all summer working out to improve the hops. I've seen pics of Walter dunking where his head clears the rim. At 6'10" that would take 38" just to get his head even with the rim. I believe the 41.5". Quote

Certainly could have improved since last October when I saw him last. Verticals are normally tested standing still. I'd be surprised if he can get his head above the rim without taking a run at it. Certainly hope I'm wrong. Not trying to stir anything up, JMO. Quote
GATA Posted August 13, 2013 Report Posted August 13, 2013 A lot of times with verticals they test them by taking a step, not flat footed. That would certainly add a few inches to someone's vert. Quote
