Keisei Tominaga Junior Year - 13.1 ppg/1.6 reb/0.7 assists (66 total makes from 3 @ 40% clip)

Connor Essegian Junior Year - 10.7 ppg/2.8 reb/1.1 assists (70 total makes from 3 @ 39% clip)

I think we have collectively been too hard on Connor this year.  Yes, it's frustrating when he's not making shots as that is his role but he did pretty much what Keisei did his junior year, minus some of the charisma.

He's already better than an 8th/9th man and hopefully with a good offseason he makes another jump.

Here's your BIG difference between Keisei and Connor

Connor: 1.2 of 2.7 (43.2%) from 2

Keisei: 2.9 of 5.0 (57.8%) from 2

Keisei was a threat everywhere, if Connor wasn't hitting he was a liability

Agree with those who mentioned being too tough on Connor. I’ve actually been pushing for him to start for obvious reasons, but one of those is that he’s the best pure shooter on the team. In a lot of conference games too, he was coming into the game when we were down, sometimes by quite a bit.

While I believe he was recruited to partly fill a Keisei roll, I do think two things worked against him. 1, I believe Gavin not being ready to go put a lot more pressure on him to be “Keisei” instead of  “like Keisei”. I also believe 2, that when we saw Gavin wasn’t going to give us much, he was in a situation where we needed Sr year Keisei and not Jr year Keisei.

I hesitate to say this out loud, but if I had to make a too early portal wish list, Josh Dix would be near the top. Sounds like Fran is out and Dix is from Council Bluffs. 43% from three, never turns the ball over, can be a primary ball handler and create for others. I'm sure he'll end up at Creighton and we'll see him again next year.

Plus he is the tall PG that Fred seems to like.

Keisei had someone who could pass him the ball in Rinke.  Connor had no big man with that ability.

Connor is fine as an 8th or 9th man. That’s it.

0-11 from the field today, 0-8 from 3 with mostly good looks, and can't guard anyone.   Not fine as an 8th or 9th man at all.  Maybe a 10th man, come in against zones for a couple minutes type guy.

Keisei had players that could hit him on back cuts.  Connor, not so much.

See a lot of people also saying the only reason Connor made so many threes this year is because he was the only three point shooter on the team. That's just not how it works. When there are more shot makers, you can play with better pace and space and things get easier for your three point specialists. It tends to compound, rather than subtract. Most of Connor's three point attempts, he was sprinting around a screen and had to square himself while in the air. Not very many stand still, catch and shoot attempts with feet set and good balance. That happens when the offense as a whole is stagnant. Rey Gallegos had the same experience.

He also had several attempts where he would pull up and hit the mid range or shot fake and drive. Absolutely he got help from good passing, but he also had a far superior ability to score from inside the arc than connor does
