WNBA DRAFT Jaz Shelly rated in draft

She could do both as the WNBA is a May to September league and the WNBL is a October to March league.

Currently the 17th pick is the New York Liberty.

Looks like Jaz was drafted as the 5th pick in the 3rd round (29th overall) by Phoenix.  Congrats to her!  Hope she has a great career, whether it's in the WNBA, back home in Australia or elsewhere overseas.

Sounded like she should have a good chance of making the team as they do not have much cap space and will need rookies making the minimum.

Phoenix also took UCLA guard Charisma Osborne, so will be competition to make the Phoenix squad.

 

Noticed in the WNBA draft, two French  and a Aussie were taken in the first round. More out of country were taken in in 2nd and 3rd rounds. Truly an international draft.

Just looking at the box scores from the 2 pre season games, she had 5 attempts all from three and no made baskets in 26 minutes of court time. Not the best showing for her. Also worth noting is only 15 of the 36 players drafted in 2023 made a regular season roster. So if you are not a 1st round pick your odds of making a team can be pretty long.

If you're not a top-15 WNBA draft selection, roughly, then you aren't making it. Jaz was the 17th pick, and PHX didn't keep any of its most-recent draft selections in '24.

Yes Jaz slipping to the third round made it more of a challenge for her. I think had she had a better showing (hitting all of her three attempts) it may have helped her.

Jaz Shelly (Jazmin Pamela Shelly)  is going back home to Australia to play pro ball there. Kind of thought that's what she would do ultimately... been away from home for several years.
