Norm Peterson Posted February 15, 2013 Report Posted February 15, 2013 There's an article over on SI.com talking about how Michael Jordan's legacy began with a single shot. And then there's a picture of him taking that shot in a national title game against Georgetown. The caption to the picture reads: "Michael Jordan sank the game-winning three point shot for North Carolina in the 1982 National Championship game." Who can tell me what's wrong with that caption? I knew it immediately.Read More: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/college-basketball/news/20130215/michael-jordan-north-carolina/#ixzz2KzbRs3wL P.S. Mike turns 50 in 2 days. Happy birthday, Mike. burgundy95 Posted February 15, 2013 Report Posted February 15, 2013 There was no three point line? Quote
TheKamdyMan Posted February 15, 2013 Report Posted February 15, 2013 UNC won the game 63-62 so it was only a 2 point basket Quote
trickey Posted February 15, 2013 Report Posted February 15, 2013 There were conferences that experimented with the 3 for a number of years before it was adopted and used in the tournament about 1986. Quote

Norm Peterson Posted February 15, 2013 Author Report Posted February 15, 2013 These are people who are supposed to be the sports authorities. To assume that, just because it was a jumper, it must have been a 3 pointer just leaves me shaking my head. I mean, c'mon, can't you look it up before you write that down? Quote

TheKamdyMan Posted February 15, 2013 Report Posted February 15, 2013 He's not wearing Nike shoes. What do I win, Norm? There was actually a story about Jordan where he was all set to sign with Adidas but this low level company called Nike kept throwing more money. He had NEVER owned a pair prior to signing with them and said if they were willing to put that much money into him why not give it a try. And the rest as they say is history. Imagine what the landscape of shoes would have been like had Jordan just gone with adidas like he was originally expected to do. Quote

Norm Peterson Posted February 16, 2013 Author Report Posted February 16, 2013 No, Iverson was much later. Iverson was in the 90s. This was the early 80s. Quote

Tried to recall them all from memory, Helpside anyone? Iverson Iverson Iverson Reggie Williams and David Wingate come later when Ewing is a Senior and they are upset by Nova. Starters were Ewing, Floyd, Brown, Eric Smith - 6'5, & 6'7 Mike Hancock (from D.C.) The last two were both seniors. Watched that back in the day when we got four channels counting PBS. Big storm and our TV kept cutting out as well as the radio call. Only got to see about 1/2 the game but unfortunately, did get to see Brown's pass to Worthy. Quote
jimmykc Posted February 16, 2013 Report Posted February 16, 2013 That particular final holds a distinction for me. It was in the day before tivo and I did not watch any of it.Still is the only NCAA final since the North Carolina/KU one with Wilt Chamberlain that I haven't watched on tv. I opted for a family event (and no, it wasn't the birth of a child). Quote

I knew I was off on the Williams guess, never would have got Smith & Hancock. This is the game where Brown throws it to Worthy on their last possesion thinking he is a teammate. Quote

I sure thought I nailed the quiz when I originally answered...however, now that I have reviewed the rules and the "prize", I concur...49r should be declared the winner. Quote
