Well... A tie is a lot like kissing your sister...   However... the way the weekend went... I will take this tie as like kissing a really good looking step sister.

Scenarios

 

Maryland is done with games.  If we win 1 game at Penn State, we finish ahead of them by at least .5 games.

 

Minny actually has 5 conference games this week.  2 Mid-Week Home Rutgers and then 3 Home Purdue.  If they win all 5, we must sweep Penn State.  Every loss they have means we can afford a loss at Penn State to ensure a tie.

 

Michigan win today would put us .5 games ahead.  Can go loss for loss with them as well.  They have 2 @ MSU and 1 @ Home against MSU.

 

Indiana has three at Ohio State.  If they sweep, we must win at least 1 of 3 against Penn State.

Iowa is in the same boat with three against Illinois.

 

So pretty much if we don't absolutely tank with 3 losses at Penn State, we should be good.  If we just sweep this coming series, no one can pass us!

Minny only has 2 Against Rutgers mid-week.  If they win those, they are at 14-6 and tied with us.

 

If they Sweep and we Sweep how do we lose with the head to head win?

 

The way the D1 Baseball Schedule has it, Minny will only play 2 against Rutgers instead of 3.

This. The tie would bring us to a lower winning pct. B1G goes by winning pct.

So Minny is benefiting from a game against Rutgers that isn't factored in and our tie is factored in?

 

That's the only way I see that I guess.  Otherwise we both end at the same win loss total... but our tie factors against us and their no game helps them avoid a possible loss.

Yep as crappy as that is, it's how it works. Their cancellation doesn't effect their record. Our tie is essentially a win and a loss - so a .500 win pct.

And, factor in that Minny won the league last year because they played one less game (essentially). Gophers were 16-7 while the Huskers were 16-8.

 

Keep in mind that Nebraska has beaten Minny 14 of the past 17 games. It would be totally craptastic if NU were to fall "a tie" shy of a title when the Gophs would *again* be victorious for not making up that final game in back-in-back seasons.

Here's the worst-case scenarios:

Lose out: 6th

Win 1, Lose 2: Tied 4th

Win 2, Lose 1: 3rd

Win out: Tied 1st

 

Keep in mind, Minnesota was able to reschedule their games with Rutgers so they have 5 conference games remaining.

Purdue is do able, winning one of the three, Minny's bull pen will be taxed. does Minny have a break between the 5 games?
