  1. Our five-point road victory over Florida St. is looking pretty salty tonight: Florida St. knocked off Florida tonight 65-63. Additionally, Cincinnati beat NC State 76-60 tonight on the road. If only we could get a do-over on those two bad back-to-back home losses!
  2. Lee Barfknecht has an article this morning on Walter Pitchford titled "Miles’ pitch to Pitchford: Play more like Rodman": http://m.omaha.com/huskers/miles-pitch-to-pitchford-play-more-like-rodman/article_e6a55abc-347a-5dce-8aaf-f8e931430916.html?mode=jqm Here is a blurb from the article: Here are statistics comparing Pitchford’s past five games in Rodman-mode to his first seven: Scoring: 9.8 to 5.9. Rebounding: 6.8 to 2.9. Field-goal shooting: 39.5 percent to 27 percent. Three-point shooting: 37.5 percent to 28 percent. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. Here is a pre-surgery report from July 9, 2014, on Akoy Agau's progress at Louisville: Pitino: Mathiang, Agau most improved Jul 9, 2:29 PM Rick Pitino said Wednesday sophomores Mangok Mathiang and Akoy Agau are the team's most improved players. That's great news for Louisville's frontcourt. “The two biggest improvements on the team without question are Akoy Agau and Mangok Mathiang," Pitino said. "Akoy is a different person physically, emotionally, mentally. That’s a great thing for us because we need that position desperately. Mangok has gotten much bigger physically. He’s almost muscle-bound right now. He is cut. Those two guys really stick out.” While Mathiang started 14 games as a freshman, Agau was seldom used off the bench. Mathiang is the expected starter at center while Agau should provide backup for PF Montrezl Harrell. "We think Akoy is ready," Pitino said. "You won’t recognize him the way he looks. He’s taken a quantum leap, as well as Mangok. Mangok battled against Kentucky the last game of the season and now he’s physically able to battle. He’s very strong.” Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. Big assist from the refs to Minnesota. Minnesota couldn't do it without them!!!
  5. Didn't see the game, but the following line also seems significant:Tarin Smith: 19 minutes, 2-3 shooting, 1 rebound, 2 steals, 1 block, 0 turnovers, 7 points. Edit: Sorry, Peltzfan, for not seeing your post before posting this one.
  6. Here is a report on Michael Jacobson's game tonight against Omaha South--his team lost 56-52, but he had nearly 50% of his team's points: "Jacobson collected game highs of 24 points and nine rebounds. He went 2 for 4 on 3s, 6 of 6 at the line, often brought the ball upcourt and wasn’t afraid to go inside."
  7. Here are his stats from last night--he's showing pretty well, it seems:
  8. Michael Jacobson had a good game tonight. His team lost to Omaha South, but he scored nearly half his team's points:
  9. In a short time span about the 6 minutes-left mark, Morrow has a couple great blocks and a nice finish at the other end in traffic. And a spectacular defensive series around 4:45 left--altering and blocking shots. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. According to some Duke message board posters from a few days ago, Semi's main problem is that he prefers to hang around outside rather than battle in the paint. Akoy' preference, it seems, is to be the tough-man-in-the-middle. If those two observations are anywhere nearly accurate, our greater need is for Akoy over Semi--but, what the heck, let's get them both and not worry about it.
  11. According to Robin Washut, Nebraska is the only school located in this state that is in the mix with Akoy--the other two are not likely to be considered. Robin has an excellent article on the Akoy Agau subject today in the Red Sea Scrolls' premium "Tunnel Talk." That article is worth the price of admission!

  13. So . . . you're sayin' the loss to Incarnate Word wasn't a good loss?! Go figure. Here is some other FYI under-performance news: our good buddies from Northwestern lost to Central Michigan last night by 80-67. Ouch. And here is some under-performance info that history says should be in another thread on another HHC board (my advance apologies to the enforcers on this), the four-and-five-star-spangled UNLV team made a stirring comeback in overtime to topple Portland 75-73, in which our former recruit, Jordan Cornish, played 7 minutes with 0 points, 1 assist, 1 turnover and 1 foul. So, at least we have some company for our under-performance losses so far.
  14. Cincinati pulled it off -- 71 to 62 in one overtime.
  15. Cincinati going into overtime at home right now with #19 San Diego State.
  16. Just now watched the news conference with Coach Riley and AD Eichorst. Conclusion: I'm highly impressed with both!! Loved Riley's walkon discussion and his sharing of some walkon experiences. Loved Eichorst's discussion of how he worked this out. Quality people here--both of them. Hope it works out well. This selection gives us an excellent chance.
  17. At least we will have consistency: from one Tim-Miles-Opposite to another Tim-Miles-Opposite. For definition purposes, please note that Tim Miles has a very high IQ for dealing with the public, for building good will for the program, for getting the public to [drumroll] like him. A Tim-Miles-Opposite . . . doesn't.
  18. Looks like we aren't the only ones with a negative Karl Hess impression. Here is a string of posts by Louisvilke fans from last night's game: http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=17&f=2755&t=13436955 A few posts in the thread are: "Pitiful job by the refs tonight"; "that's Karl Hess for you. There is a reason we as a fan base know him by name and hate his guts"; and "Stevens was worse than Hess by a longshot"
  19. According to Huskers.com [hope I've got this right], Brandon Ubel averaged 15.8 minutes per game as a freshman (2009-10) with 4.4 points and 2 rebounds per game--but he also had for the season 3 assists to 41 turnovers. Other bigs on the team who played that year were Freshmen Jorge Brian Diaz, Christian Standhardinger and Quincy Hankins-Cole, along with Senior Ben Nelson. Not sure they had that year anyone with either the athleticism or maturity of what Hammond is facing today in Junior Walter Pitchford and Senior Moses Abraham.
  20. On the subject of Walt, toward the end of the game, he took the ball to the basket and got blocked at the rim--not to mention hit at the same time on the hand and arm, the shoulder, the rib cage, the hip, the thigh and at least one leg. That contact moved his entire body about a foot off its normal path. And, of course, Karl couldn't find his whistle on that one. Not that we're bitter about it or anything . . .
  21. Theory: This season will turn on whether Terran Petteway can learn/decide to play within the system or continues his black-hole hot-doggin' with the ball. There have been a number of times this season that the team has performed better with Terran on the bench--his efficiency has got to improve dramatically, or he will undoubtedly be a college player this time next year! Reality: Tarin Smith is a special player. His three point shot came up huge, but the heads-up assist to David Rivers is every-bit as critical to the win.
  22. +19 is pretty impressive. Also, Moses played 17 minutes, collected 7 rebounds, blocked 2 shots, and had 2 fouls tonight. That's pretty good, considering he couldn't seem to last more than 13 minutes at Georgetown without fouling out (or nearly so), averaging 2.8 rebounds and .7 blocks per game last year. Tonight's stats for Moses seem to represent some pretty good progress for three games into the season. Granted, there are lots of tougher opponents ahead, but the early Moses returns appear promising.
  23. Oh, and get this: LSU lost to Old Dominion tonight 61-70. Sure glad we didn't get stuck with that Robinson guy--should have taken that darn Hanson kid or Kreklow instead.
