  1. UL Monroe lost to Florida in overtime tonight. Maybe we should wonder about trading players with Monroe--they have a Deng on their team. And, back to the original post, UNLV lost by the narrowest of margins tonight (29 points) to Stanford--89-60. Wonder if UNLV should trade away some of those four and five star players? They might have better luck with some of the Bluejays, like Artino and Hanson. Kreklow would certainly be an improvement for them.
  2. Here is a "shoulda' come here" second-guessing for Dusan Ristic--kind of an "I told ya so": in four games thus far, resulting in Arizona wins in the 16 to 23 point margins, Mr. Ristic played only 2 minutes in the most recent game (9, 7 & 10 minutes in each of the prior three games). 4 points in the exhibition game and 3 rebounds in another were his best outings. So much for one and done, apparently.
  3. Agree on all points. On the other hand with Walt, it may have been the same series in the second half when someone fed the ball to Walt inside with his back to the basket. But instead of working toward loving the rim, he backed away from the defender for a long shot (but not quite a three). That seemed . . . wrong somehow. So, in defense of the prior paragraph, I started griping last night about Tai in the second half--about his three travel turnovers, etc. As soon as that happened, he did a whole bunch of great things. So the new strategy is to "go negative" . . . it worked once!
  4. According to ESPN, Deng's stats against South Carolina are 6 points (2 of 4 twos and 2 of 2 from the line), 1 rebound, 2 turnovers and 3 fouls (no minutes information provided yet).
  5. So, UNLV is now intriguing, with their star spangled newbie team--just to see how they progress to let the talent show through. Their second installment is a rip-roaring 59-57 victory over . . . [drumroll] . . . Sam Houston State of the Southland Conference. Sam Houston appears to have a total of one Rivals two-star player (and not a single additional star) on its team. 44.4% from the charity stripe (12 of 27) didn't help UNLV much. Jordan Cornish saw 11 minutes in an 8-man rotation (a 9th player played 3 minutes)--Cornish scored five points with 1 assist, 1 rebound and no turnovers.
  6. If only my crossed signals were all limited to just this board!
  7. My recollection is that Doc pursued Buddy Hield VERY hard and came up short . . . go figure. Buddy was in the same 2012 class as Shavon and Benny--all are from Kansas or thereabouts. Rivals lists Buddy as being "Recruited by Doc Sadler, Wes Flanigan." I remember reading some recruiting reports back in that recruiting cycle that Doc really, really wanted Buddy to come here. There is a September 21, 2011, Rivals article in which Buddy talked about a visit to Lincoln and that Nebraska was "recruiting me very hard." Buddy committed to Oklahoma on September 23, 2011, according to Rivals. Tim Miles was hired at Nebraska in early 2012.
  8. Doc always did have a good eye for talent . . .
  9. On a related note, isn't it cool to look for a Husker score on ESPN and not have to go beyond the "Top 25" list to find it?
  10. Very cool!! But wait . . . you might watch out on this. Perhaps you've posted this topic on the wrong board: there is no mention of the Huskers, and another team's name is in both posts. Hate to be persnickety (def.: overparticular; fussy) or fastidious (def.: excessive care), but based on one or more other transferred threads, "someone needs to explain why we have a college basketball forum if threads like this don't go there." Just saying. And don't be rollin' through any stop signs or jaywalkin' when no one else is around--wouldn't be prudent.
  11. Since the Central Arkansas two scores this season (both were played in Omaha) are a 104-77 loss at Creighton and a 100-75 loss at UN-O, here's predicting a 99-68 loss for UCA in Lincoln.
  12. Well excuuuuse me.
  13. Missouri of the SEC lost 61-69 to UMKC of the Western Athletic Conference. Ouch. But perhaps the biggest underperformance came from UNLV's 60-59 squeaker last night over Morehead State of the Ohio Valley Conference. It appears that Morehead may not have a single player on its team sporting a Rivals star ranking--ok, maybe one three-star. Each of the UNLV players, on the other hand, who played at least a dozen minutes last night had the following star rankings: two five-stars, three four-stars and two three-stars (our good buddy Jordan Cornish apparently did not see the floor). Granted, nearly every single one of those players is a newby to the UNLV team--four are freshmen, two are transfers, and one is in his second year. But still . . . . Granted, they'll probably get it together soon--but that is not a good star spangled start.
  14. Picked up a couple nose-bleed season tickets recently through the Husker ticket office--had been on the wait list for awhile.
  15. The Washington Post is also drinking the Nebrasketball Kool-Aid. Here is an article from this morning titled "College basketball preview: The favorites, sleepers, top players and best local teams." Nebrasketball comes in as number 3 under "The sleepers, Title contenders outside top 10," along with 1. Gonzaga, 2. UConn, and 4. Iowa State.
  16. Gotta love the focus on these words in that tweet: "Integrity, trust, respect, teamwork, loyalty." Not only is Tim Miles landing supeb players, but he is also getting smart, high-character, team-first men. Amazing!
  17. They are all three signed, sealed, delivered. Current class rankings are around 26 or 27 nationally and 5 or 6 in the B1G. However, Tim Miles said on NET this week that, when Andrew White III is included in the class, the class jumps to a top-15 national ranking.
  18. Goodness gracious, Norm. That's pretty impressive work and analysis. Thanks!
  19. Here is a tweet tonight from Mr. Jacobson: @MJake12: I will be signing my Letter of Intent tomorrow morning. Excited to make it official with the Huskers. #GBR
  20. Thanks, Dave, for the background. Great story of initiative and perseverance and working through adversity! And thanks for creating a place like this with lots of fun people (in an electronic-ink / don't-actually-know-who-they-might-be sort of way).
  21. Way to go, Norm . . . sheesch . . . run off a new poster [just pulling your chain]. So, what did BigP have to say in the now-deleted post? We want to know.
  22. Yeah, it was nice to see David shoot the ball a few times (other than when the shot clock is running out). At the end of last year it seemed that David always did that head-fake but-didn't-shoot routine, and no one ever bit on the fake (must have been the scouting reports). Last night, however, 3 of 5 shooting, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 block, 2 steals and 0 turnovers is a pretty good line--even against a low-major team. Additionally, when Benny did his lock-down defense toward the end of the first half, he created three take-aways and nearly a couple more in a very short time--amazing! Toward the end of the game, Teran Smith had a spectacular assist from around the three-point line down into the block--shows a lot of promise!
  23. According to Sigmund Freud, in his "The Interpretation of Dreams," a person's dreams are forms of "wish fulfillment"--attempts by the unconscious to resolve a conflict of some sort, whether something recent or something from the recesses of the past. So, let the arm-chair psychoanalysis of Norm, through this dream, begin!
  24. He didn't get the job:
