  1. yes he has an official visit to NU this weekend Latest word is that he will take all his official visits and is headed to Georgia this weekend.
  2. You really think we backed off Trey? That's not how I remember it. I remember Coach Miles skipping his weekly radio show so that he could go up for a recruiting visit. Yes. We went after Tarin Smith instead. A good choice, obviously.
  3. Hey, Student, good to hear from you again. It's been awhile.

  5. Chris Harriman, I believe.

  7. Since when is Pinder nearly 7' tall? According to this article published yesterday, he is: "Pinder, a 6-11, 215-pounder from Australia, had 14 points and a team-high 15 rebounds." A misprint, perhaps?
  8. How 'bout this for a trip down memory lane? It's one of the few times over the past few years when yours-truly might have actually had an astute observation (ok, "astute" is probably pushing it). Anyway, the occasion was February 12, 2013, and someone posted a clip from Nate Hawkin's high school game against Elbert Robinson's team. And I had this to say about Mr. Robinson: "It's always intriguing when the "highlights" of a 6'10" 260-280 pound 4-star are a set shot and being blown-by on defense. Not doubting the star ranking . . . but still . . . " How's that for calling a shot? Actually, reviewing that old string of posts and video brought up this question: How valuable might Mr. Hawkins have been to Nebrasketball this past season? Perhaps he's wondering the same thing?
  9. Elbert Robinson III is a poster-child for the uncertainty of recruiting. Here is an article on Mr. Robinson from the Lincoln Journal-Star, dated October 8, 2013, when he chose LSU. His AAU Coach is quoted in the article as predicting that Mr. Robinson "would be in the NBA after one season of college basketball." According to LSU's official website, Mr. Robinson played in 11 games (starting 4 of those), averaged 6.2 minutes per game played, grabbed a total of 17 rebounds the entire season, scored a total of 6 points the entire season, along with collecting 13 fouls, 9 turnovers, 5 assists, 5 steals and 3 blocks. Hmmmmmm . . . Would he have performed better as a Husker? Would you take him if he wanted to become a Husker tomorrow?
  10. He also received an offer from Georgia this week. Here is an article on him from Detroit dated two days ago: http://www.detroitnews.com/story/sports/high-school/2015/03/12/recruiting-john-glenns-mike-edwards-a-rising-star/70238056/ This article says he is 6' 10" and gained 10 pounds to 217. Here is a portion of the article: Edwards, whose father by the same name played football for Michigan State in the late 1980s, has now received multiple offers, including some from SEC and Big Ten schools. "Georgia's head coach (Mark Fox) watched him play Thursday (March 5), then sent his assistant to Monday's (Class A district opener) game and that's when they offered," Watts said. "Nebraska's assistant (Jim Molinari) was at Monday's game, too." Edwards has offers from Georgia, Boston College, Eastern Michigan, Detroit, Cleveland State and Loyola-Marymount, and is being looked at by such schools as Michigan, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Iowa, Arkansas, Butler, UTEP and SMU.
  11. The final score: Bellevue West 70, Omaha North 53.
  12. In a basketball building process, injuries are crucial because depth is an issue. Crucial factors in how this season played out are the total loss of our two senior bigs for much of the season, along with their less-than-100% status for the entire season (Smith) and nearly the entire season (Old Testament). So, here's the "notice" to Tim Miles: do a better job of recruiting players that will be injury-free, because that will improve Nebrasketball's future performance and results. Perhaps there is a no-hair-on-legs type of identifier for this?
  13. Don't want to be negative on Patton because he is obviously a great player. But his two biggest nights, apparently, came against Westside, whose tallest player is 6'5", according to online sources. Make no mistake: 20/20+ would be great against even a JV team. But a 7 footer dominating the inside against 6'5" and smaller players should probably be viewed with some sort of asterisk, perhaps.
  14. Here is the McVeigh info from the article linked above: Jack McVeigh | Queensland After losing out in last year’s U20’s Championship game, Jack McVeigh and his Queensland squad will be entering this tournament looking to avenge that loss. McVeigh was extremely dominant in last year’s U20’s Australian Junior Championship, averaging 27.5 ppg, 9.3 rpg while shooting 55% from the field. The Nebraska commit was a member of the Boomers squad for last year’s Sino-Australia Challenge so look for him to bring some veteran leadership to his Queensland squad.
  15. It's being reported that Jack Sorenson will be visiting unofficially this weekend for the Sunday game against Iowa.
  16. The Jays have won three of their past fifteen games. They beat the Huskers in the same week that Incarnate Word did the same. And Mc-Somebody wants to know which team has more talent. Seriously?! This is reminiscent of the days when Doc went 50/50 against Altman and we heard about how CU was really a better program and the Valley just as good as the Big XII. Frankly, it's an irrelevant issue. Two teams struggling mightily. And we're arguing about which is worse? Good grief.
  17. Dwayne Bacon is a Rivals five-star. Here is an interesting comparison with Nebraska's three-star recruit against the same team earlier this season: Final: Omaha South 56 Waukee, Ia 52. Nebraska wins the #MACShootout Border Battle 5-3. Naime with 16 for South. Jacobsen with 24 for Waukee.
  18. It seems that Jay fans are very high on their incoming class. Granted, they have a Rivals # 48 four-star coming in. But, according to Rivals, they don't have a single recruit with a big-time offer: Patton--no other offer Kramplelj--no other offer Stewart--offers from Bradley, Chicago St., Florida Gulf Coast, Green Bay, Northern Colorado, Northern Illinois, Robert Morris & Toledo Thomas--offers from Nebraska Omaha, Portland St. & UMKC Maybe the Jays are better than everyone else at finding under-the-radar guys (like Doc with Shavon and Benny). But, wow. Weren't they supposed to have the inside track on a bunch of four-stars and on that Kansas transfer who, apparently, will be paying his own way next year in the Valley?
  19. Seems like some good odds there, Normie--after all, Willie lived in the Will Shields household when both he and Shavon were in high school: "Will Shields and his wife gave Cauley-Stein a level of discipline he had not received growing up in the small town of Spearville, Kansas. Shields—whose son, Shavon, also played on the AAU team and had become one of Cauley-Stein's best friends—offered to help. Cauley-Stein could live with him and his family over the next few years and get his academics in order while playing football and basketball at Olathe Northwest High School."
  20. Last year's games against Michigan: 1. In Lincoln on January 9 -- 70 to 71 loss 2. In Michigan on February 5 -- 79 to 50 loss (and that's after Miles commenting several times that he really liked the matchup). Bad things happen on occasion. Time to move on. Hope both Testaments are still healthy -- 11 minutes between them toning (1 Old and 10 New).
  21. Try this one on the women's side of things, which sent the game to overtime: https://twitter.com/swmckewonowh/status/559921644014022656 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. Actually, don't see Benny's minutes declining much, due to his role on defense. Last night when Benny sat on the bench with four fouls, Michigan St. made their first run to close the gap significantly. So, Miles put Benny back in the game with quite a bit of time left, despite his four fouls. At the end of the game Miles substituted back and forth with Tarin for offense and Benny for defense.
  23. At the risk of Norm's glasses not working, check this out: https://twitter.com/swan888/status/559105809561702400 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  24. I was at that game. I also attended the summer league games at Omaha South High School--and started following Husker Hoops Central around that time too. Don't remember the events mentioned above--but always thought Cookie Miller to be the best and most exciting player involved in that summer league . . . by far. Swan, I believe I met you at one of those games. I met a guy there, anyway, who sounded like what you've described of yourself. And he had a camera ... but hadn't read the "Photography for Dummies" book. That was Cliff Clavin, Norm. What I remember is being a little naive on the avid Creighton fan's attitude toward Huskerland. That naivete evaporated at Omaha South High School. At one game, for example, a friend sat on the bleachers across the court, so decided to go sit by him and visit awhile. While approaching him and standing on a bleacher seat two rows down from him, a Creighton player apparently scored; whereupon, and he jumped up and down with fists pumping for about ten or fifteen seconds, bellowing at the top of his lungs with red face (was afraid he might have a heart attack) like they'd just won the National Championship . . . ; whereupon, I promptly pivoted, returned to the prior seat and sat down . . . now fully aware of (and exceedingly surprised at) the depth of emotion involved.
