  1. According to Lee Barfknecht: The Huskers have offered a scholarship to 6-10 power forward Michael Edwards of John Glenn High in metro Detroit. . . .Sources close to the situation said Nebraska is working with Edwards to secure a campus visit, but contrary to Internet reports hadn’t finalized a trip or date as of late Monday afternoon. 2. This is from Rivals in February of 2014: "It only took Darien Williams a little over an hour to make the drive from Council Bluffs, Iowa, to Lincoln to take in Nebraska's game against Illinois on Wednesday night, and he was definitely glad he made the trip when all was said and done. After showing interest in the 2015 forward from Iowa Western Community College for a few months, the Huskers finally got Williams on campus for an unofficial visit. When head coach Tim Miles extended him a scholarship offer before he left, Nebraska quickly vaulted towards the top of Williams' quickly growing list of potential schools."

  4. P.S. I've read some of the stuff at those places in the parts you don't have to pay for. I hope the paid basketball content is markedly better This site beats that one by 110%, as they say. What we get on the paid site for Nebrasketball is Robin Washut's input--and that's valuable. The problem, it seems to me, with the paid site is that it includes a bunch of Husker football fans who root for other basketball teams. So, the negative grief there toward Nebrasketball is significant. And it usually comes in the form of anti-Nebrasketball posters masquerading as Nebrasketball fans being "realistic" and "not sugar-coating" things. Hence, you have to pay there to read the many posts trashing Nebrasketball at every negative turn in the road. One reason I love this site is the lesser volume of anti-Nebrasketball posters. If that changes much, it could go the same way as the aforementioned "parts you don't have to pay for."
  5. Any chance we can lock this thread and move on? Can't abide, (a) the "poor, poor me" title and substance of some posts, or ( b ) "get rid of Miles" crap. But at least we aren't paying good money to read such stuff.
  6. Cunningham is listed at 6'7". This past season, he played 30.3 minutes per game, averaged 7.5 rebounds per game, 7.9 points per game, and shot .434 from the field, .234 from three, and .570 from the line.
  7. Harris stats for 2013-14 from the official Provedence site (can't find the 2014-15 there yet) compared to this year's stats for Walter are: Harris shot .433 from the field--136 of 314 (Walter shot .378--82 of 217); Harris shot .322 from three--29 of 90 (Walter shot .289--37 of 128); Harris shot .839 from the line--104 of 124 (Walt shot .485--16 of 33); Harris had 5.1 rebounds per game--76 off., 103 def., 179 total (Walter had 4.6 per game--29 off., 108 def., 137 total); Harris had 11.6 points per game (Walt had 7.2); Harris had 49 total assists (Walt had 14); Harris had 34 steals (Walt had 10); and Harris had 75 turnovers (Walt had 33). There may be similarities, but free throw percentage differences are dramatic. Also, differences in offensive rebounds, assists, steals, and numbers of free throws and shots from the field attempted suggest that Harris is a much more active and engaged player on the inside. The only stat comparison significantly in Walt's favor is turnovers--but that probably reflects the same difference in activity and engagement on the inside.
  8. According to Lee Barfknecht this a.m.: Miles said the request to transfer wasn’t a big surprise, even after the 6-foot-2 freshman played in all 31 games, started three and averaged 17.6 minutes a game. “Tarin and I had talked over the last month about his future and where he fit in,” Miles said. “I believe strongly in Tarin and wanted him to stay, but I put out the most likely scenario for him and told him he had to feel good about it.”
  9. Oh the agony . . . (the ecstasy was a prior season)!!! Oh woe is us! We are undone! We lost a player who didn't have the heart for the game any more (and it showed this past season). Oh no!! We lost a player who looked pretty good for a freshman. Oh no!! We might lose a guy to the pros!!! Oh no . . . say it isn't so! We have three highly rated players coming in next year. Oh no!!! Oh wait . . . that's a good thing, right? Hmmmmm . . . this is so confusing.
  10. This player took an official visit to Georgetown back in the fall of 2012. He was a Rivals four-star, with a #42 national ranking, in the 2013 class.

  12. I'm saying we have a good shot. Rivals didn't say that.
  13. Other sources suggest that Walter's departure was NOT a surprise to the coaching staff.
  14. Liking our chances on this one. Robin Washit has a new article up on him now on Red Sea Scrolls. It's definitely worth the price of admission!

  17. Here is a two-pronged theory supporting Ed Morrow, at 6' 7.5" w/o shoes (6'8" to 6'9" w/shoes), as a high-impact post player at Nebraska: 1. The primary missing piece for Nebrasketball's lack of significant success this year and in last year's post-season is Leslee Smith's knee problems. Consider this: (a) at the end of last year, Miles described Leslee's mobility as "like an old man," and ( b ) the highest Nebrasketball achievement this season is the win over Michigan St.--a game in which Leslee Smith played a never-duplicated 30 minutes. 2. Leslee Smith measures in at 6'8" (w/ or w/o shoes is unknown) and 254 lbs., according to Huskers.com. Ed Morrow measures in around the same height, but only at 214 lbs. (according to Rosenthall in September 2014). In this comparison, Ed Morrow has two advantages that overcome the 40 lb. weight differential: (a) Morrow can elevate with incredible athleticism (Leslee can't), and (b ) Ed Morrow has a chance to add significant bulk in the weight room at Nebraska--after all, if David Rivers can add 26 lbs. (from 174 lb. to 200 lb.), surely, Ed can do something similar.
  18. Here ya go Norm: Regarding Ed's height, Brian Rosenthall reported back on May 31, 2014: "Morrow, who recently turned 17, said he’s still growing, that he’s gone from 6-foot-6 at the start of last season, to his current 6-7½. Both measurements, he said, are without shoes."
  19. To repeat a prior post: "As usual, looks like Tim Miles is ahead of the pack in identifying and pursuing under-rated players. Edwards is, apparently, under-rated no longer."
  20. Hey, we haven't had a 6'5" post player since Ade Dagunduro. And he was a pretty good one at that. And Morrow is a heck of a good dunker and shot blocker at 6'5". Imagine what he could do if he were 6'8 as advertised.
  21. Here is an article that mentions Mike Edwards and Glynn Watson and Tarin Smith, all in the same context: https://basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1749678 "The more Rivals.com learns about Westland (Mich.) John Glenn's senior big man Mike Edwards, the more we feel he could be in that sleeper category. . . . In the past few weeks, Nebraska, Kansas State, Georgia -- where he will take an official visit this weekend -- and Rice have offered scholarships joining Illinois State, UC Davis, Akron, Ball State, Eastern Michigan and Northern Illinois. Auburn has expressed some interest, along with Marquette,Arkansas, Penn State and over the weekend Edwards took an unofficial visit to Michigan after the Wolverines watched him earlier in the week." And . . . "It was a strong senior season for four-star point guard Glynn Watson and he finished it out in style leading Westchester (Ill.) St. Joseph to a class 3A state title. The No. 88 player in the senior class is the jewel of Nebraska's 2015 recruiting class and he looks like he has the tools to be a multiple-year starter in Lincoln. Watson makes those around him better, has command of the game off the dribble and he leads vocally and by example. The only thing that could hold him back early at Nebraska looks to be strength, but the idea of being able to unleash him and promising freshman Tarin Smith in a two-headed point guard attack for years to come has to be exciting to Huskers fans."
  22. https://twitter.com/robinwashut/status/580886300900745216 No Michigan?! Liking our chances. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. not really anything for this class but he did have commitments from the #78 and #99 players in the country for next year both 4 stars. So I can see some vultures for sure there. Or, we could take another run at Sai Tummala as a fifth-year senior transfer . . . or not.
  24. This is from an article posted yesterday and updated this morning: "Mike Edwards, a 6-9, 225-pound center from Westland, Mich., is set to visit Georgia this weekend."
  25. Also, looks like Missouri visited last week to see him work out. As usual, looks like Tim Miles is ahead of the pack in identifying and pursuing under-rated players. Edwards is, apparently, under-rated no longer.
