  1. Well, it’s hard for an opinion to be “dishonest”, so i’d ease up there a little. Derrick and Sam, and I have reason to believe Kesei, will be hard to Replace. Never said they were irreplaceable. Those were your italicized words, not mine.
  2. Don't think it is short, at least. Don't know about the manageable part, but between the portal and/or Juco, they're gonna have to find guys, and it won't be easy. We're going to have a lot of turnover, and we need dudes. Lots of them. And much better ones. We're still in 12th place, and our best players aren't returning.
  3. Wow, this thread really triggered a couple of Jay fans.
  4. Well, good thing you're not Chucky. It didn't bother him at all.
  5. As an aside I had the pleasure of spending some time with Emmanuel Bandoumel yesterday. A very impressive young man. And did you see Griesel fist bump Kent before tipoff? We have some really good kids on this team.
  6. I also thought Kesei played his best defense as a Husker yesterday.
  7. Would not surprise me at all, Norm. In fact, I expect it. Despite the North Platte girlfriend.
  8. A potpourri of excuses. Well done.
  9. Our defensive footwork is terrible. Watch the film, it don't lie. And the lack of athleticism hits us the hardest on defense.
  10. As of now, UNL basketball is not part of 1890. It is part of a different collective. Certain boosters of means are in fact supporting NIL. The question is if there is enough of them. Others have answered your question "do they see it making sense?" as "No". It's a shift in thinking for many of these folks from donating to endowments, scholarship funds and buildings, to direct payments to players. I struggle with it myself. Stay tuned.
  11. Trev has major comments in an interview yesterday; perhaps someone can link article in separate thread. FWIW, I basically agree with everything Trev said. Clearly we have made substantial progress this year in improved assistants, culture, effort, defense, and an identifiable offense which is much more fun to watch than the McGowens/Verge/Teddy hero ball extravaganzas. Too bad it didn't happen sooner. My concern remains the roster. With a light November class, a strong portal/juco spring class is imperative. There is no way the returning roster (and at this point we don't even know what that is; expect some departures) will get us out of the bottom 4 in the league. In other words, to compete at the level we are required to compete, we are bereft of talent at this moment in time. Trev essentially noted that, paraphrasing, "now, for Fred, it is about recruiting."
  12. Well, we got him a girlfriend from North Platte, and that may be just as effective….
  13. Some on here figured it out way before he was an ex-coach.
  14. Do you think Matt A. Did a good job while here?
  15. Him hitting 2 got us over 50% for the game!
  16. Turns out we're only supposed to look at Ken Pom ratings.
  17. Based on what? Some press clippings? You been to a practice or seen him play one minute?
  18. But don't kid yourself, the non-seniors in that starting lineup aren't getting you out of the bottom 4 in the league. It is imperative that we get some DUDES in the portal this year, or some late-emerging Juco studs. The returnees plus a November class of 1 ain't gonna do it.
  19. And when he came back to the bench he had an ice bag on his knee
  20. I’m still bitching about that, and probably will for many more years. Thanks Shawn.
  21. Our hoops NIL is decent. We are competitive with what we’re paying current guys. Hell, even Jeffrey Grace got a little money. Understand that the NIL world has been evolving very quickly. Our group had some stops and starts, and was figuring out how to best raise money. While it’s organization has lacked the higher profile of 1890 for football and volleyball, the hoops NIL folks made sure NIL funds were generous for this year’s roster. Trev has very recently gotten more involved, and met recently with the head of the basketball NIL group (Who has ties to Fred but not Trev). Shatel isn’t wrong that NIL commitment will be imperative, but I’m optimistic we’ll do well going forward in that arena.
  22. So we’re just going to blame us for Fred’s dismal results here? It’s all on Nebraska? Fred has no responsibility for a bad plan upon taking the job, hiring a substandard staff, for not leveraging his ISU success and NBA experience in recruiting, whiffing on the best collection of in-state talent in decades, having a complete lack of discipline and accountability for 3 years, and in hiring and then staying with Abdelmassih for 3 years? Okay. Our bad.
  23. Why are we limited to a random mid-major coach? (Jerome Tang says Hi).
  24. So is there any scenario, or amount of losing, that would cause you to flip? Or because he won years ago at Iowa State and coached and played in the NBA we keep him forever no matter what?
