Big Ten team news...(Hoopla's picks complete p. 17)
HB replied to whoopdeedoo's topic in Row 6 Seat 10
Unlike here, where no one even bothers to ask “Is Trinity Brady still ‘day to to day’”? -
Slump Buster x 50.

If she wants to develop as a post she should give it some consideration.

Naga family members enjoying themselves at Gate before the game. Classic. Griesel’s folks as well. Then Raiola holding court after the game on the corner by Mello. Fun day.

Sam G. showed a lot of "bounce" in high school; I was surprised observing that level of athleticism at East games (surprised he didn't have better offers). His bad hip has reduced that some, but still long and athletic, and has clearly showed he belongs at the high major level.

If this team has a surprise star, who's it going to be?

Agree for the most part, expect Blaise. The poll was taken in October. Many on here had him starting, and most overestimated his contributions. He had some DNP coach's decisions. He was overhyped on here (common with guys who haven't yet played), based on the #1 Juco recruit, etc. But regardless if his contributions in league play were a "huge surprise", they have undoubtedly helped us. Sounds like he'll be really limited Saturday, if available at all, and that will hurt against a team like Minny. -

I liked Derrick a lot last year, but no way I thought he would be as good as he's been, or be an absolute total difference-maker, playing at an all conference lever. I doubt we all kind of knew just how much we'd be getting there, and all the roles he would play (e.g. bringing the ball up, superb passer). -
Millikan is set to go to Dordt. He is finishing his high school career playing with a partially torn meniscus, which will be surgically repaired at the end of the season. People should keep that in mind if they watch him the rest of the season.

2023 SG Parker Friedrichsen -> Wake Forest...for now

Well, one of the regulars in her lineup was pulled out of her sorority house to play, so she did have that going for her.

So predictable, fan boy

I think our fans overrate out talent. It's natural to like our players. We're maybe above average with 4 players, and dramatically below average with the depth. In any event, I will be real--if we don't up our recruiting, we'll stay mediocre at best. And we used to be way better than that. And we're losing ground to teams that have hired new coaches more recently than us. I'd opt for a different description--average team, average coach. I hope whatever needs to be fixed is, but 7 years is a long track record. People can change and improve. Let's hope it happens here.
-
Yeah, let's keep recruiting the same kids, and stay mired in mediocrity.

And athleticism helps, which has been the subject of recent posts. Watch film closely and the slow feet are readily apparent, per Husker22 above.
-
Why is it that we don’t have “anyone else who can consistently do what she did”?
-
Allegedly because he's not at all happy there, and he's tight with his girlfriend who plays volleyball at Creighton.
-
I don't think it is baffling. This staff has always struggled to recruit. Go through the classes, and see how many busts (every staff has some, but our numbers are quite high). We lose a ton of head to head matchups with conferences foes when really good players narrow it down to the last 2 or 3 schools. In-state recruiting has really suffered other than lucking into Markowski late. The Australia pipeline has been the lone bright spot. Our bench got outscored 37-3 last night by one of the worst teams in the league. We don't have enough players for this level. Losing Weidner isn't an excuse for a complete lack of depth. I appreciate the player development concerns expressed on here, but I'm mainly in the camp of "recruit much better".
-
It's not an accident what's going on at Creighton. Flan was there years and now fairly suddenly he's a huge success? Maybe, just maybe, something is happening there behind the scenes....
-
No need to apologize. Have any opinion you want. . The discussion started with recruiting athleticism, and if you think we’re doing good in that department, own it.
-
Do you watch much Big 10 basketball? How do we compare athletically?
-
Williams doesn’t recruit athleticism. Sam pre-injuries was about as good as it’s gotten in 7 years.

uneblinstu's postgame chatter: vol 15, ed 27: at Rutgers

And in our giddiness, I don’t think anyone has mentioned the nice win by the Friars over the team 60 miles down the road. Epic night! -

Yep, great moves by Trev. Seat needed to be hot apparently for Fred to make major, necessary changes to what we had been doing. Starting with firing Matt. We started winning and playing better immediately after Trev stood by Fred late last season, all while requiring needed change. The improvement has continued. Love the portal pickups even though 2 of them are hurt. Those 3 were not Matt type of guys. Huskers are much better to watch now, even when we don’t win.
