Illinois (10-5) vs. Nebraska (9-7) Game Thread
HB replied to Bugeaters1's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
200 fair, 300 non-existent. Lots of empty seats everywhere -
We desperately need a recruiting win. Maybe that can still happen with the portal at season end, but getting a target like this guy who is getting pursued by good teams would be a big boost to Fred at this point. On the other hand, losing him would look like more of the same.

0-21 from 3, 5-12 from the line. No effort. Been watching since 1986 and this is the worst coaching and playing performance I have seen. -
If we’re gonna get these veterans of which Norm speaks, and they are good enough to turn us into a winning program, it’s gonna take lots of NIL money. Lots.
-
Correct on NIL for the guys going to non-NBA level pro leagues. But we would need a boatload of NIL money. Are we ready to do that for basketball? We have done OK so far, but this would need to amp up at a much higher level.

In this day and age of hyper-mobility, how u gonna get guys to stay for 5-6 years?

She also annoyed the refs, as she got Teed up. Great player, but extremely demonstrative. Has never committed a foul, and has never taken a shot in which she wasn't fouled. She could be Lisa Bluder, I'm not sure.

Dammit, Norm. It's like the stock market. Until the final bullish optimist capitulates, the bear market isn't over. Once that happens, it's nothing but up. Until that optimism dial gets out of hand, and then a correction. Even Norm got melancholy, and that was the key to our recent success. Don't do this to us, Norm! -

Did we win? I am the greatest motivator of all time. (I watched the whole game, of course) -

Maybe they decided to wait until Sunday so the Jayskers can join in. -
Generally yes, but this year, at DS, not so much. This is where the loss of Akana hurts us. We lost a server and defensive specialist in Knuckles. Hames can serve and dig well. Evans can't play front row at all. He's trying to fill with an outside hitter playing back row (Batenhorst), and doesn't bode well against elite 8 and better competition. He's missing extra back row chair parts this year.

Whatever the conversation, you can trust that Ramel's daddy was part of it. -

Even NU Diehard isn’t coming in with any lengthy Save Fred posts. -

He will. It’s over and Fred knows it. He thought it was over last year. Scheduled a 2 week Maui trip during camp season. Fred will handle it with class. His heart condition helps him put it in perspective. -

A mismatch roster full of guys with poor basketball skill sets. Unbelievable that in year 4 we have this roster—not big, not athletic, and not skilled. Hard to believe you can be 0-3 in those categories. Culture and effort may be better than it’s been, but no way the talent level of this group can be successful at the Big 10 level. -
Nebraska (2-0) vs. St. John's (3-0) Game Thread
HB replied to Bugeaters1's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Excellent point, and that's when I started to lose my mind. We got up 12 and had multiple "Hoiberg era" possessions. Undisciplined, selfish plays, one on one concepts with guys just launching shots early in the shot clock. Boom, we're only up 7 at half. Problem. -

No, I read all of your posts, and agree with many of them. And respect all of them. I just saw something completely different last night, from the 15 minute mark of the first half. And this offense.....can't stand watchin it. Finally, I appreciate more togetherness as much as anyone, but I saw some really bad skills last night from multiple players, which no amount of attitude and toughness is going to overcome. In year 4, we don't have players who can compete in our league. And that is sad. -

As for me, I'll still go to every home game, still donate, and still watch all the other games on TV. It's a habit I can't break at this stage of my life. But as a 45 year season ticket holder, this 4 year product is the worst, by far, of anything I have seen. Frustration, and a certain amount of venting, should be expected.
