  1. That's a fair evaluation as I used to go to alot of practices as well when we were able to (I miss those days). You won't get any arguement from me that Ubel seems like a good kid and has never gotten in trouble. I probably mis-read your post as it seemed like you were saying that he is the only one that works hard every minute and I know of other kids that have the same work ethic. My post wasn't a knock against Ubel as opposed to giving other players their due as well. I agree with everything you have written here. I've seen an improvement in Ubel's game this year and would be interesting to see if he had another year under Miles. Ubel seems like a very good kid that will be successful beyond his time at NU.
  2. Let's be fair that I don't think Ubel works any harder or tries any harder than anyone else on the floor. The talent level is just very different on this team. I do agree 100% with you that the biggest problem is consistency for this team. I have been extremely disappointed with the consistency of play from guys like Talley, Ubel, and Rivers. This team needs to find some more consistency if they want to be a competitive team this year.
  3. They can't score like this at home so we get Runza's??? I was very strange having to listen to the game on the radio. Nice to hear guys like Rivers and Sheilds improving as the season goes on.
  4. Can't wait for next year to get here with the increase in talent level, depth, and new arena.
  5. I don't think he's a bruiser but do have a potential coming for a visit in January. Food for thought but can you image if we had landed Gessell last year and Agau as well for next year. If we had be able to include Agau, we would have had a class with two 4-star players and two 3-star players. Throw Gessell in the mix and you are knocking on the door of our first NCAA tournament win in the very near future. Oh to dream.......
  6. If your talking about helping out this year, I would agree. If your talking about for next year, then I'd say "maybe" on Shields and "no" on Parker. Benny needs to enjoy this year as he will be in the same boat Meinke is this year. He will only get playing time if someone gets hurt or it's a blowout.
  7. I personally don't care what Creighton does as it won't have any impact on NU. I'd welcome it if they actually had to play in a tougher conference and not get an automatic bid most years to tournament by winning a weak MVC. I get tired of hearing about their resume of NCAA bids. NU would have more bids on their resume as well if they played in MVC as well. This new "big east" baskeball conference still won't be a good as Big 10 or ACC but it will be an improvement in competition for the Jays. They better strike while the iron is hot as in 2 year, they won't have McDermott anymore and their stock will drop dramatically.
  8. Let's be real about this as Almeida is not a player that Miles would recruit. We have not choice but to play him. Miles is trying to get production out of Doc's players and it's going to be a long season. Doc left the cupboard extremely bare for Miles. Next season, we'll have much more talent and be much deeper. Just need to get throught this season but I'll still be at every home game pulling for a win as these kids still deserve our support.
  9. We made the right move hiring miles. He is prefect for this job not only with his track record but his personality is just what NU needed at this point. I think in about year 3, we'll all be very happy he was hired here.
  10. And keep in mind that this has happened all in him being on the job less than 1 year. Miles is already targeting top prospects for 2014 and 2015 as well. For anyone that felt like Doc should be given more time, this should be a wake up call that T.O. made the right call to make a change and think he hit a home run with the Miles hire.
  11. Yea, but we aren't deep enough to afford any injuries this year. That just forces us to go deeper down the bench and that will be a huge issue.
  12. Totally disagree with you on this. We need a 6' 6" body that can help score and rebound more than we need a 5' 9" guard to bring the ball up the floor. Ray could take over this role if needed with help from other guards. We need more scoring threats at this point.
  13. It is also being reported that Peltz has is dealing with a knee injury that will require surgery after the season. Things are not looking good right now.
  14. Sounds like it's Meinke time and that is not a good thing. We are going to be forced to go deeper in the bench than we want to and that just spells more losses. I saw those tweets on Twitter earlier and then depression set in.......
  15. From what I've heard, those schools are leaving Big East and pairing up with some schools from A-10 to form basketball only conference. It doesn't appear Creighton is much in play right now but I have to believe they would do everything they can to get in on this. Not much challenge in the MVC when you always finish in the top 4 each year.
  16. I've heard both Petteway and Pitchford are better than any player we have playing this year. You throw those 2 guys in with Webster and a couple good role players and you can do some damage. We might be picked to finished in the bottom 3 or 4 in the conference but don't think we will finish there. I think we finish around 6th or 7th next year. Just a hunch.
  17. I think that is why the Creighton fans are so cocky now as they know the tide could be turning in the next couple of years. One thing I don't agree with him is that Parker will be in the rotation next year. I think Ray will be the only one who gets any significant minutes next year. I think it will be the 6 new guys along with Rivers, Shields and Ray getting the majority of the time. Miles still might sign a Juco for next year yet that could factor in.
  18. I'd be surprised if he went pro afte this year. I hope he does for NU's sake but expect him to be back for his senior year.
  19. I HATE CREIGHTON
  20. It's not even a question.......Creighton!!! A win over Creighton would have much more of an impact locally. We aren't going to post season this year so why not have bragging rights in this state for the next year. I hate Creighton's cocky fans with a passion.
  21. Nebraska shocks the college basketball world..... NU = 76 Jays = 74
  22. Miles did an outstanding coaching job last night. I was thinking with about 2 minutes left in the first half to pull Ubel so he don't pick up a cheap 2nd foul and sure enough, Miles sends in Rivers with under a minute to go for Ubel. Miles has put this team far ahead of what I expected. I stil know we will take a pounding in some Big 10 games but he has kids playing very well and confident. Ubel has improved greatly under new coaching and what more can you say about Ray. He is clutch. Talley tries to go one on one a little to often and gets himself in trouble. Parker is servable for this year and players seem to know their role. Almeida is getting better as well if he can stay out of foul trouble. At the beginning of the year, I would have said Creigton would blow us out by 25 points but not it wouldn't shock me if we hang with them. Even if we do lose, I don't see us getting blown out. What a credit to Coach Miles and his staff. The future so bright, I gotta wear shades.

  24. The Lincoln Journal Star and other media outlets (facebook, twitter) needs to send out reminders again on Monday to get people to come. There isn't a husker football, volleyball, Stars or NU woman's game that night so no reason not to have 10,000+ people there. Would be cool to see students and/or fans wearing "I love New Zealand" Tshirts
  25. My bad....both hands and 1 foot then.
