Schedule next year: could we have a worse con record next year?
kldm64 replied to PimpMario's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Yep. I think so too. That is probably true at the start of next season but hopefully as the season goes on, it won't be the case once the incoming class starts gaining some experience. -
NU with the 4th-Toughest Schedule in the Nation So Far
kldm64 replied to Hooper's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
The odds of us making any post season (CBI included) are slim and none. It would take a miracle finish to the season for us to make the NIT and from the ways it sounds, MIles would turn down a CBI offer is one would happen to come (which I don't expect). The season is winding down with potentially only 3 games left assuming we go one and done at Conference tournament (which I strongly hope doesn't happen) -
After listening to him calling the trainers vs. managers game, I think he has a pretty bright future in broadcasting. He was impressive on the call of that game.

I just want it to be a team we can beat as don't want to open up the new arena with a loss. As much as I'd love to see a matchup with Duke or Carolina, I'd much rather see is take on a team we can get a "W" against. From what I've heard, it will probably be a good Mid-Major team as the season opener.

Honest question: True Freshmen vs. Redshirt Sophomores
kldm64 replied to Norm Peterson's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Hmmmm. Not. Sure. I. Believe. Tyrance? Vooch? Beating the starters? Consistently? Tyrance doesn't even get minutes over Benny Parker. And Vooch doesn't get minutes ahead of Tyrance. I mean, we're basically playing 5 guys because Miles doesn't seem to think the rest of the eligible players are serviceable. If they were, they'd be getting into games and playing more than 1 minute against Illinois. So, call me skeptical on this one. I attended one of the Husker FAC events they had at N-Zone and Coach Harriman spoke at it since Miles couldn't be there and he said that the transfer players consistantly beat up on the starters. The reason he mentioned this was he was asked about recruiting and he spoke about getting more athletic players and how the players currently sitting out this year often times dominate the starters in practice. I don't think he was talking about Vooch, Tyrance, or Parker but mainly the 3 transfer players. When the coaches say it, it's not a rumor. -
Center, Power Forward recruits NU is after
kldm64 replied to bkamler's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
Just curious where you compiled this list from? -
I would agree with that as he has settled into his role alot more now and not trying to do to much or forcing things like he was earlier in the year. He has been a beast lately and putting this team on his back at times. I really like the way he is playing and the improvement in his game over the course of the season.

And they will both get a standing ovation from me on Wednesday night..... -

I would have to disagree with that. So, on what basis would you know if he didn't... I'm kind of tired of people bagging on Ubel, he's trying but he's not succeeding. I'm not bagging on Ubel as that is a pretty bold statement to say that he played his guts out. It wasn't his best game but know he still tried hard but wouldn't catagorize his effort as playing his guts out. -

uneblinstu's post game chatter: ed 5, vol 28, Illinois
kldm64 replied to uneblinstu's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Great effort but I'm not into moral victories. How does Ubel miss a wide open dunk like that??? Basically we are a 2 1/2 man show today with Talley, Gallegos, and Shields and we still hung with them. All this does is get more excited for next year and start getting Miles players in here. Hard to win games when you can only play 5 players. Gotta admire the effort of our starting five. I tip my hat to these kids for continuing to complete hard. -
You can and should get in now as they ave already assigned seats to current season ticket holders. No sense waiting as you will only get worse seats the longer you wait.
-
Don't think that is bad at all as costing me way less at new arena than it does at the Bob the same view of the court. Cost of ticket is basically the same but the donation level dropped dramatically.
-
I would not anticipate any players leaving and don't see any of the coaches asking any player to leave. I would anticipate the coaches having an honest talk with each player about their role and expectations moving forward. It's possible one or two players might exit but I just don't expect any will leave.

That is why Doc is no longer here because he thought he could win with guys like this.

Matthew Atewe -> Auburn -> Washington
kldm64 replied to TheKamdyMan's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
I didn't see much for highlights of him other than dunking. I wanted to see him create a shot down low or rebound. I would love to have this kid but him moving his announcement date back tells me he's a little unsure yet. Someone else might emerge that we don't even know about yet as Miles and company are recruiting hard with lots of kids these days. -
How will the crowd respond to Mike Gessell?
kldm64 replied to jimmykc's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
This is my quote: I can't blame him as I wouldn't wanted to play for Doc either. Can you image if we would have hired Miles a year earlier like many people wanted and he was able to land Gessell and Woodbury. That might have helped our chances to land Agau as well. Still might have not gotten him but couldn't have hurt. I'm so glad T.O. finally pulled the trigger on Doc but it was a year to late in my book. This is hypothetical as know I know if Doc was let go a year earlier, we wouldn't have hired or even interviewed Miles. I just used Miles in my post since he is the current head coach but you could plug in any other coach that might have been hired at that time. It was just a "what if" senerio as to how things would look now if we had been able to get Gessell since Doc couldn't land him (whoever was the head coach at the time). -

Totally agree. Things worked out and most people seem happy with Miles and job he has done. -

I'm so glad T.O. finally pulled the trigger on Doc but it was a year to late in my book. Hindsight's 20/20, KLDM. It's easy to say now that you wish we would have hired Miles last year but that would not have happened for any number of reasons. First of all, we would have had to fire Doc after a season where he took a still-young team to the NIT. We had a lot of our best players coming back from that NIT team. And you're going to fire the coach? Really? Second, if we'd had an opening for whatever reason a year earlier than we did, Tim Miles wouldn't have gotten the job. Wouldn't even have gotten a sniff. You know what Tim Miles and Doc Sadler had in common two years ago? They both had teams lose in the first round of the NIT. So, what you are proposing, KLDM, is that we would have fired one coach whose team just lost in the first round of the NIT and replaced him with another coach whose team just lost in the first round of the NIT. No way that happens. No way. And if Osborne would have hired a guy whose team just lost in the NIT first round, you would have been one of the loudest complainers. You would have been bitching that we didn't go after a "name" guy like a Tubby Smith or a Kevin O'Neill. Hell, there were plenty of skeptics of the Miles hire a year later after his team went to the dance. I'm glad that Tim Miles is our coach but there's simply no way he would have become our coach a year earlier than he did. I also have to question what waverlydude posted about Doc's visit with Gesell. Waverlydude, that may very well have been what the Gesell family told you. And it might have been sorta what was said. But I'm sure that what they told you leaves out a lot of context. I'd heard Doc say things like how he would try to leverage Nebraska's name recognition in football to build a hoops program. You make it sound like Doc was using "football school" as some sort of excuse for lack of success. I don't buy it. I really don't believe that's what Doc would have meant. WOW!!! You just know everything Norm. I'd be the one of the people bitching (as you so noted) if a certain senerio happened. I'm not saying we would have hired Miles a year earlier as it was a hypothitcal situation just like you and many other people do on this board. It's a "what if" situation!!! Just like you do many, many times with Sheldon Jeter as "what if" we could have gotten him. I like how it's OK for you to classify me as one of the loudest complainers, but seems like anything you post is just fine and dandy. I know we totally disagree on Doc as you think very highly of him and I was a huge fan of his in the beginning as well but after a few years of watching him coach and recruit, it became obvious to me that he wasn't the guy to take us to the promised land (just my opinion). You might be happy with NIT bids but I'd like to see more. I'm very happy how things have worked out and love Miles as our coach. -
Well deserved. Congrats!!!

So, do we have another B1G win left in us this season?
kldm64 replied to Norm Peterson's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
People need to calm down with the NIT talk as we are still a long ways from getting a bid. It will take several wins to get us in the NIT and not sure we can muster up that many more. I hope we can but the odds are against them. As much as I want to think we can get another conference win, just not sure where it would come from. -
Another Miles profile and a rhetorical question
kldm64 replied to HuskerCager's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
I'm not so sure about that. I don't see him getting hired on as a head coach and the longer he's out of coaching, the harder it will be for any school to hire him as head coach. I'm guessing he could be an assistant coach at a major school but if I was him, I just keep the job I had. -
How will the crowd respond to Mike Gessell?
kldm64 replied to jimmykc's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Not really. Yes and no as it was no secret that Woodbury and Gessell wanted to play college ball together and if we could have gotten Gessell on board, it's very likely that Woodbuy might have come as well. -
