Keon Edwards is N

When he reclassified from the 2021 class to enroll early at DePaul, he was dropped from the Rivals and ESPN rankings. He still carries a rating score from ESPN, though, of 86.  In the 2021 class, of which he was a member, that would place him somewhere between 34th and 47th on the ESPN top 100.

Robin says he climbed as high as top 25 and a 5-star for Rivals, but I'm not sure he held that ranking when he reclassified. Still, outstanding player and a huge recruiting coup for us. He had some big boys involved in his recruitment, including FSU, Alabama, Georgia, Auburn and Arizona St. all in the mix.

Jerry Meyer's scouting assessment from 24/7: 

Has a thin build with good length for a wing. A crafty athlete who can get elevation in space. Can score from all three levels. Handles to get his shot. Not a prominent defender but has potential to be a versatile defender. Rebounds his position. Utility type player.

I see a kid with handles good enough to take it to the rim, but also decent enough of a shooter to keep defenders honest.

Good length, good athleticism. Jerry Meyer projects him as a future P5 starter. I will take it.

I’ve been Eeyore with the recruits and the transfers, but it’s hard to be down with a recruiting class like this. Just incredible. 

I feel visiting HHC this year is like what Forrest Gump must have felt when opening a box of chocolates.

I guess Fred is taking him despite his Jumper!

Someone I know (cough cough @49r cough cough) ran some numbers to try to figure out what our recruiting class would be ranked if we landed Keon Edwards.

I think the conclusion I came up with was top 4 in the country.  Just a whisker ahead of #5 Duke.  But I could be wrong, so don't hold me to that.

It's easily top 10, so even if it's not #3, it's gotta be within spitting distance.

So the way I arrived at that conclusion is to use the 247 class rankings calculator, here:

And since I couldn't plug in Keon directly to our '21 class, I had to find a reasonable comp (which just happened to be TyTy Washington, who is ranked just slightly LOWER in their rankings than Keon was).  By plugging TyTy in, I came up with a score that would put us at #4.  Just ahead of Duke.

Anyone know what Keon's free throw % might be? It would be nice to not be holding my breath whenever we step to the line some year.

The formula is quite simple.  Take a player’s lifetime free throw percentage, subtract 20%, and that is what they will shoot in a Husker uniform.

Bryce, Wilcher, Keon, WB, and Nets is an incredible group of Freshman this fall. Jury is always out till we see what they have on the court but I think Matt is living up to his reputation at least going by rankings. 

Feels like the same level of kid we were looking at with Kansas transfer TGF but is a Fr. instead of a Jr.

Question: When he made 2 of 2 free throws, why is his % .999? Do they subtract .001% just because he signed for the Huskers?

I was thinking the same thing. Except, I think this kid is probably better. My thought was that we were fortunate the KU kid decided not to commit.

I know we're fine with not filling our scholarships I think we'd take both of those guys.  Not sure if Edwards commits if TGF does though.

Anyone see the irony with TGF going to DePaul instead of us?

‘Think you are right. I think the Kansas kid was more explosive but Keon is hopefully a little more skilled. Guessing they went after the KU kid first because he is more ready to go day 1 and they expect to make a big jump this year. I’ll take the freshman myself

TGF entered the transfer portal March 29th. Edwards on March 30th. We had to be recruiting both heavily among others.
