Norm Peterson Posted March 26, 2013 Report Posted March 26, 2013 I wonder if this means that Nebraska isn't sitting well with either Atewe or Tummala. Or maybe someone currently on the team is leaving in order to make room for another scholarship. Also, does anyone know where there is video of him? I looked for video and all I found was a couple of interviews. Sounds like he's come on in the last half of the season. Maybe the light just came on for him. Do we want Larry Brown's sloppy seconds? I trust Coach Miles to make the best decision, but as I said upthread, what we need is a talent upgrade and not just bodies to fill a position. Quote
Nebrasketballer Posted March 26, 2013 Report Posted March 26, 2013 "Or maybe we just need the help upfront and want a more immediate contributor than relying on Atewe as a true frosh" I agree, but they all fill spots regardless of whether they are a freshman or junior. So they can't take all 3 (Atewe, Tummala, and Smith), unless someone currently filling a spot decides to leave. I personally think it would be good for Nebraska to snag all 3, but that likely would mean someone (Vucetic ?) would have to move on. Quote
Norm Peterson Posted March 26, 2013 Report Posted March 26, 2013 I hope this doesn't mean we aren't in the running with Tumalla. I was impressed with his video, which shows that his stats aren't smoke and mirrors. Or his stats show that that his video isn't smoke and mirrors, either way. I just hope this isn't a signal that we don't have a shot at Sai. That kid has the chance to score some buckets. Quote

Probably more impressed with him than with the other two. I think getting all 3 would be ideal. Sai is definitely a more skilled player. Atewe and Smith more of the physical typical PF types. Smith would only take up a spot for 2 seasons, which would allow Miles to really work on recruiting for the 2015 class which would be his first realistic chance of signing a homerun class, because he will have 5-6 open scholarships as well as enough time to really establish relationships with some high caliber recruits. Silverbacked1 Posted March 26, 2013 Report Posted March 26, 2013 Looks like he has been offered too. Robin Washut@RobinWashutSee what #Nebrasketball recruit Leslee Smith had to say about his offer and visit coming up on Wednesday. ($) http://nebraska.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1486025 … Don't have the rivals membership so someone will have to tell us what is happening. Okay to really keep people up tonight... isn't interesting that we offer this kid and he is coming Wednesday, and all this happened about the same time we have coaches sitting in Matthew Atewe's dorm room? Okay I'll hang up and listen. Norm Peterson 1 Quote

ajb5856 Posted March 26, 2013 Report Posted March 26, 2013 That article says he's basically choosing between us, Saint Louis, and Murray State. Interesting that Ohio State has shown him recent interest. There must be something there, at least a flicker of talent to even draw interest from an Ohio State. Quote
aphilso1 Posted March 26, 2013 Report Posted March 26, 2013 Also, he's from the Virgin Islands and didn't come stateside until '08. Kind of adds to the possibility that he was a late bloomer Quote

So, Leslee, if we roll craps on either of those other two, then the spot is yours. If they both commit, then sorry, but you're out of the picture. But we want you to know that we want you and if anything happens where either of those other two don't commit, then the offer stands and would be commitable. Just a guess that that might be the situation. Quote

Interesting that Ohio State has shown him recent interest. There must be something there, at least a flicker of talent to even draw interest from an Ohio State. I'm always intrigued by recruiting and how it all works. So we hear that Ohio State has 'shown interest.' What does that really mean? I know every coach is recruiting players that fit their system, but do they ever check out guys just to 'do their homework'? Does Thad Matta and company ever hear that Tim Miles and company are going after recruit X so they feel the need to go and see if they're missing out on anything? We've seen several examples already of Miles and his recruiting and his knack for jumping on guys early or identifying the under the radar (we hope) players. Do other B1G coaches take notice of what recruits other coaches are targeting? They have to, right? Quote
TheKamdyMan Posted March 26, 2013 Report Posted March 26, 2013 Happens a ton in every sport. How many times has a prospect gotten a big offer only to get a few follow ups as people want to make sure. I mean in football how many times have we seen the same schools offer a guy immediately after Nebraska does ie Arkansas. Quote

It just makes you wonder in a case such as this. Is Ohio State coming in because they have a need and are truly interested? Or is Thad Matta coming in just to 'do his homework' and make sure he is not missing out on something big. Quote
TheKamdyMan Posted March 26, 2013 Report Posted March 26, 2013 Probably as much interest shown by Duke when they showed interest in Matthew Atewe. Quote
