My feeling was simply that he's not a post and he's a 2-year guy.  He's no taller, really, than Leslee Smith, and a lot lighter, so he's not going to be banging anyone around in the paint.  If we're looking for a juco, my thought process would be that you scour the juco ranks for the potential rebounder/rim-protector who doesn't necessarily need to score as much as just play good defense in the post.  I don't think this is that guy.

If we can find that guy, it would be better.  Seems like we should at least look.  As it stands, we have plenty of guys who would fall into the PF part of the spectrum, where this guy probably fits.

No knock on Arlando.  It's just that our needs are slightly different.

Having said that, I'd be more than happy to take a 4-year player like a Jeriah Horne who, though shorter, appears to have more long-term upside.

Counterpoint: His nickname could be "Lando"

I would take Arlando if we can't get Horne. we couldn't even find a big to fill out our roster this year.

this offer list tells me that Arlando could find a way to contribute:

iowa st, missouri, west virginia, Az state, memphis, arkansas, ole miss, lsu, k state, nebraska

also, the only footage i've seen of him is from over 2 years ago which makes it pretty hard to judge.

I don't know how high on our radar this guy is anymore or how high on his we are.  Given that we seem to be really hitting the road hard to find bigs and considering he apparently said he was going to wait until spring to sign anywhere, he might be off our list a bit.

I'll tell you a couple of things, though, that I saw from watching his game film that left me with sort of a "meh" reaction and why I said upthread that he wouldn't be one of my top choices if it were up to me (which it obviously isn't unless I'm Tim Miles, which he and I can both tell you I'm not.)

So, he got hot at the very end of last season.  Last five games, in fact.  Prior to that, he was not quite as prolific.  And I watched some of his actual game film (not highlights) and some things stood out to me.

First, this is small, but I see him going up right-handed in some situations where he really needed to be able to go to his left.  He's a PF.  He's putting shots up inside from the left of the basket, and it's a disadvantage if you can't go to your left hand and use your right shoulder to help create space.  So, he's going to eat some of those attempts when he gets to the next level.

Second, he seemed to turn it off sometimes.  I felt like he wasn't going hard every play.  Long stretches where he was a non-factor.  In fact, when I first started watching the film, I was hoping he was a different player and when I checked his number, I was disappointed.  A big guy standing around watching other people rebound is not the rim-protecting rebounder we're looking for.

I think we have other options on the roster at the spot he'd likely play.  He's not a banger, not at his size.

According to Robin Washut we are no longer in the mix for him.

For the record, before this news broke I already said "we didn't really want him anyway."

Here is a tweet he did today that I found on Verbal Commits:

Could the way he wrote BIG be an early tell?

I hope so.

If it were 'B1G' then it's possibly more likely (although no certainty). Could just be a "BIG" decision, let's hope it's a BIG (NU-'new') move to B1G at NU! ;)
