HuskerActuary Posted January 9, 2015 Report Posted January 9, 2015 I didn't read the game thread so I apologize if this was discussed, but I am astounded how much worse Terran is at FT shooting this year. He shot 2-7 last night, dropping to 66.7% on the season. He was an 81.9% FT shooter last year. I have absolutely no idea how such a big drop-off can occur at the most basic shot in basketball. You learn to take free throws in elementary school and the shot never changes your entire career! Thoughts? Quote
Huskerpapa Posted January 9, 2015 Report Posted January 9, 2015 I think he is going to be fine at the line. He may be pressing a bit, and when he settles in, we will see the old TP at the line. He also had a few mind games going last night...a few demons going on in the noggin, so to speak. Just from an observation perspective, he didn't have any feel/touch at all. Even when he made a shot, his body language seemed to tell me he was surprised. Quote
throwback Posted January 9, 2015 Report Posted January 9, 2015 As cwg said, it's almost certainly mental. FTs usually are. Petteway has always shot FTs quickly, taking very little set up time, but it almost seems to me like he's going even faster the past couple of weeks. Maybe slowing down just a touch would help. With all of the video options the coaches & players have, if he is speeding up a bit, it won't take them long to compare this season to last season & get it fixed. Quote
Silverbacked1 Posted January 9, 2015 Report Posted January 9, 2015 Didn't he shoot like 47% as a freshman? Quote
HuskerActuary Posted January 9, 2015 Author Report Posted January 9, 2015 Didn't he shoot like 47% as a freshman? Good memory. He shot 12 of 26 for 46%, which is a pretty small sample size considering he's already at 99 this year. But that is worth noting. Quote
Silverbacked1 Posted January 9, 2015 Report Posted January 9, 2015 Yeah my wife says I have rhe largest head full of useless knowledge in the world. Can't remember her exact birthdate but can tell you that Terran shot 47% for team that wasn't us. Quote
Rome4Lyfe Posted January 11, 2015 Report Posted January 11, 2015 I think his problem is a lack of concentration! FT shooting seems to be a problem with this team at times this season! Hopefully they right that ship, we need those free points especially when we are in our scoring droughts! Quote
Huskerpapa Posted January 11, 2015 Report Posted January 11, 2015 In Coach Miles press conference today he stated that they visited with TP regarding an issue or two with his FT stroke. Menke apparently stepped in and was able to articulate it to TP. Silverbacked1 1 Quote
AuroranHusker Posted January 11, 2015 Report Posted January 11, 2015 I also believe that TP's leg injury might contribute to some struggles with the FT line, even if it's mostly a deal with using his legs differently... Quote
gobigredbrah Posted January 11, 2015 Report Posted January 11, 2015 Miles said something about his elbow being low in the press conference Quote
bkamler Posted January 11, 2015 Report Posted January 11, 2015 I believe that 90% of his misses in the last six games or so have been short. He looks really worn out to me. You shoot with your legs and if they are tired you don't don't have your usual release point. Maybe a little more bench time will help him. hhcmatt 1 Quote
AuroranHusker Posted January 12, 2015 Report Posted January 12, 2015 Well, tonight's 5-5 is a lot better than last Thursday's 6-13. But, a 24-27 would be welcome as well. Quote
PeltzFan12 Posted January 12, 2015 Report Posted January 12, 2015 Menke to the rescue!!! hhcmatt, AuroranHusker, atskooc and 2 others 5 Quote
Rome4Lyfe Posted January 12, 2015 Report Posted January 12, 2015 I was very pleased with the whole teams free throw shooting last night! They did a great job in limited trips to the line! I would love if our teams could be a consistent 80-85% free throw shooting teams! Quote
colhusker Posted January 12, 2015 Report Posted January 12, 2015 Menke to the rescue!!! I heard that too. Now if Menke could get them all to make a couple more shots a game with a little coaching. Quote
Silverbacked1 Posted January 12, 2015 Report Posted January 12, 2015 Thought that Terran also bent his knees a bit more than he had been. Quote
bkamler Posted January 12, 2015 Report Posted January 12, 2015 I agree that Petteway really bent his knees much more than before. I watched him in warmups and all he did was shot free throws. When I started watching him, he missed five in a row badly and I was getting a little sick to my stomach. Then, he swished 11 in a row until they went back to the locker room. Oh what a relief it was to see that. Quote
jimmykc Posted January 12, 2015 Report Posted January 12, 2015 I heard Moses taught him how to bend his knee backward at the line. atskooc and Silverbacked1 2 Quote
