How about a Lincoln Navigator or a Cadillac Escalade?

Better, Norm. But please recall what a wise man once said...earlier today:

"It's one thing to take a program from the bottom to the top of a mid-major conference; it's another thing entirely to climb from the bottom to the top of a "major" conference. If a program bottoms out, it takes a lot of force to overcome the inertia.  Programs at the bottom tend to get stuck there."

So true, so I ask you: Who are the two coaches in NCAA D1 football that have done the most difficult turnarounds with morbid programs?

You are familiar with Bill Snyder and K State so I know you got that right.

Yet, there was one school even more inept than K State that holds the record for the longest streak of losing seasons by an NCAA school...you probably have a good idea by now...it is

Oregon State, 1971-1998. 28 seasons of incompetence and weak facilities.

Who came into that incompetence and lack of facilities and lead them to many winning season and bowl games?

I am sure you can guess by now.

Here is to "A LOT OF FORCE"

Dennis Erickson???   ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Don't understand what people have against the F-150 pickup. Quintessential vehicle for the kind of farm kids who grow up playing O-line or D-line for Nebraska. And you can get them with leather.

This program isn't Hollywood. Never has been. We're American made. And 4-wheel drive.

I've been reading around at this and other boards about hiring Mike Riley.  I have to chuckle at some of the people that I see defending the Mike Riley hire and suggesting that his record at OSU doesn't really reflect his true ability because OSU didn't have the history or tradition and lacked a base to recruit from since they're out in the boonies in Oregon.  What strikes me as funny is these same people in particular who are defending Riley used to just blast anyone who defended Doc Sadler's record here.  The exact same stuff they're saying about Riley's obstacles to success at Oregon State could have been said (and were said) by people like me who defended Doc.  Yet, when we said it about Doc, we were just making excuses.  And making those "excuses" reflected a "loser's mentality."  Yet, here they are, saying basically the same stuff in defense of Riley that they used to mock when said in defense of Doc.

Doc's overall win/loss record at Nebraska in 6 seasons was 101-89 (53.2%).  Riley's overall win/loss record in 14 seasons at Oregon State was 93-80 (53.8%).  Hey, if tradition and recruiting disadvantages weren't reasonable defenses of Doc, I'm curious how one makes the case that it's OK when it's Riley.

Going off history...I think what Riley did at Oregon St is about as good as they can expect as a football program.  And that's why he was there for so long and that's why they gave him a lifetime contact.  On the flip side, Nebraska basketball in the past has had more successful coaches than Doc Sadler.   Apparently Tom Osborne thought we could do better(and we did) and that's why he was canned(thank god).  We were arguably a better basketball team when Doc took over compared to when he left.  As far as coaching ability the lists I have seen have Riley painted in good light compared to his peers.  I have never seen any lists that hold Doc Sadler in high regard.  Will it translate to wins in Lincoln? I hope so.  I have no idea if Riley will turn out to be a good hire.  But his record at Oregon St certainly doesn't scare me.

I'm assuming this post was for me judging off what you wrote.  I hope your last post that face planted in regards to our QB's numbers and offensive efficiency end's up like this one and Riley turns out to be a good hire.

No, it wasn't for you.  Wasn't even thinking of you when I wrote it.  I had two other guys in mind, actually, and neither of them post here so far as I know.

As far as my last post face planting, I'm not sure how you say that.  All I did was post statistics from the NCAA website.  The numbers were accurate.  I didn't make them up.  And everything I said about them was true.  If you have an argument about the numbers I posted, make that argument.  But those weren't my numbers.

The overall numbers may look solid, I actually don't know where we ended up.  But how much did it have to do with Tommy?  True..we were good to great vs teams that had mediocre defenses.  But we were bad when we faced a team that could D up(MSU/Wiscy/Minnesota.)

As for Riley, as I said earlier..it will be interesting to see what type of offense we run and do we have a QB for it?  If we do I don't think rebuilding should take all that long.  The good news is that we may be able to salvage this class despite letting go BO.

Well, one thing is for certain:  He'll have no excuses.  We have history, tradition, facilities and resources for him to be as successful as any program in college football.  The only question is whether it will take him until year two or year three.

Agreed.  It should not be a very long make over process if it works at all.

I think the analogy of Riley at a Oregon State program to a serviceable VW going to Nebraska as a vehicle representing the Ferrari being real 'big time.' Personally, I believe Mike Riley has a lot of traits that served Tom Osborne well in dealing with his players. I hope that the staff brought in is GREAT so that Riley and the Huskers can get that 'hot' motor humming again! GBR

I know it was.

I also know after seeing numerous football facilities over the years, we are not an even close to an F-150...Maserati or Mercedes perhaps, but not a pickup.

What's with that, trickey mention about a Ford... are you responding to someone else?

As I noted earlier, I think the analogy denoted above is apropos.

Yes, somebody else, whose name shall be Norm...who earlier stated:

"We have a Ferrari?  Didn't realize they made a Ferrari that looked like an F-150 pickup."

Then, respond to him about it. I had my own opinions, which may or may not match anyone else's...

Sorry, as I was replying to your response to Norm when you did not "quote" him when he responded to my analogy.

I tried to treat this space as a forum and responded.  Sorry for the confusion and I will work to avoid this type of misunderstanding with you in the future.

Yet, I ask how did we get from agreeing on an analogy...to being upset about how I post?

Be cool, I enjoy most of your posts...except for this one.

OK?

Okay, guess the "I know it was" when you underlined & italicized my post might have off-put me more than needed. Take it out on Normy, not me~ lol

No worries, trickey. Keep on truckin' ;)

A decent amount of talent in the program, especially among the defensive line and secondary.  Big 10 West is weak.  Success should be immediate:  9-11 wins.

I'm glad to see the Davis twins are sticking with their commits for now.  They sort of left open the door that they'll listen to other options but, before, it was "we done."

Think this might point to Kaz staying as the d-line coach. I heard that they were his "get"

I'm not too sure about that... guess we'll find out in the next few weeks...
