in my search to read about the Duke-Husker game, i came across the story telling how Lauren Hill's family has signed her up for hospice care now. Thoughts and prayers go out to her family and friends. i am sure many of you are aware of her situation---she is the young woman bb player diagnosed with inoperable brain tumor.

i watched the game on the BTN channel---sure seemed like the announcers referenced the inability of Williams not being able to play enough. maybe just my bias coming through. what a fun game to watch. huskers are tough. Duke can really plug up the lane, allowing minimal drives. Sample and Cady had a couple of very nice drives to the basket though. if it wasn't for second and third chances, Duke really had trouble getting the ball in the hoop. the one i was really concerned about was Greenwell and thought the huskers did a nice job on her.

this boot situation. geez, hope it's not a lingering thing for these players. any updates on the injuries?

Never heard any word on Kalenta.  Is this a stress reaction situation also?  If so 3 in one year seems ridiculous.

Why does Nebraska have such a love affair with Adidas? My daughter is a recruit in a different sport, and we have concerns because we have NEVER found an Adidas brand shoe for her sport that hasn't caused her some sort of problem. She also trains with some former NU athletes, and they have remarked that the Adidas shoes were terrible while they were at NU and caused them foot problems. These kids that are D1 athletes and recruits know what shoes work for them and which ones don't. Why are we forcing them to switch and locking ourselves into one brand? Shouldn't the welfare of the athlete be the priority?

A couple of first's in this game. Duke despite not playing with AA Elizabeth Williams has seven McDonald's All Americans playing on their team compare to 0 for the Huskers. This is Duke's first loss (7-1) in the ACC/B1G Challenge and Nebraska's first win (1-3).

Did anyone notice after Duke had their huddle at mid-court after the game their head coach was waiting for them when they came off the floor and she went after Elizabeth Williams and read her the riot act? Not sure that an injured player did to receive that kind of tongue lashing but it went on all the way into the locker room. The head coach looked like a psycho going after her All American.

Lucky her AD isn't Shawn.;)

That is interesting. I wore and still wear Adidas because they fit so much better than Nike. Adadias clothing also fits much better on a fat man than Nike. I need like a 5 x to fit my legs and butt in a Nike. Then they are about 2 feet too long. Adadias 2x fits nicely.

My daughter uses Nike for throws, Brooks for running, Nike for sprinting, and that's about it. She always wore breathable lightweight Nikes for basketball and couldn't stand the weird fit of Adidas. She also wore Nike for soccer, Adidas never fit her correctly no matter how pricey. My personal preference is Asics. I can walk for miles in Asics, but everything else I get leg cramps after about 10 minutes. I just think it is weird to overlook the importance of a shoe. One size does not fit all.

My wife can't wear Nike because she has a thin heel, everything about her is thin. But if you look at her foot in a Nike there is like an inch space on both side even when she ties them tight.

Our PE teacher here at school is a big time runner and biker, he only wears Brooks. He thinks they are the best shoe ever made.

Have you guys realized that the athletes that have been wearing boots are new girls in the program?

I would say that those that are new to big time basketball have never had this extent of training or practice regimen, thus are more prone to stress reactions or lower extremity injuries, mostly from overuse.  Lifting weights 2-3 times a week, 2-3 hour practices, games.... its a lot to take in for those that are not used to that much pounding work day in and day out.  There also is no middle ground on our team- either you are very experienced or a newbie- newbies are expected to be contributors on this team and to learn all of the things you need to learn to be successful you must put in extra time on the court, which does not help with the healing process.

Good point, cyinne.  So, should Connie be looking at diminishing the amount of high impact workouts these girls face?  Have to draw a line somewhere.  But this many injuries of the same type suggests there's an issue somewhere and that it's not just a fluke thing.

How are the girls doing, BTW?  Is Chandler close to getting back to work?

Connie does have long and hard practices.  I wonder if some adjustments will have to be made--3 stress reactions in a year is a lot.   Anyway, Chandler suited up last night but never had her warmup off.  She played in the first half of the Northern Colorado game; Connie described her as "rusty".    Hopefully she is healthy and ready to get practice reps so Connie is comfortable giving her minutes.

Looks as if we stirred up a hornets nest on the Duke message board Huskerchode. Some don't like what we saw their coach do after the game and others are sticking up for her. They've got this thread linked to their board now.

For you Duke fans reading this thread:  If you dvr-ed the end of the game it's all right there. Right before they interview Connie Yori. BTN showed the Duke team exiting the floor and McCallie waiting for them as they passed. BTN then went to another camera from the other end of the court and one can clearly see the coach had Williams stopped and after about 10-15 seconds the two proceeded to the lockerroom. Everyone around where I was sitting was wondering what an injured player did to deserve that.

Row 6 could you provide a link to the Duke site, I would be interested in seeing what they are saying.

Heard that Williams might be playing for them today in their big game against South Carolina. Hopefully Duke will win that game - would be good for Duke and also for us. I should have known better than to ask about the coach and Williams after the game - especially given how divided our fan base seemed to be with our former FB coach. Was just trying to give some perspective from someone at the game because it sounded like most did not get to see it (doubt BTN is available in a cable tier in ACC country).

I was watching some of the Iowa/Rutgers game earlier today on BTN and the announcers said that Sierra Calhoun from Duke is transferring.  Also attached is the ESPN write up about it from their game recap from the Wake Forest game today.  According to the box score from our game with Duke earlier this year Calhoun started and had 9 pts, 7 rebs, 1 asst, and played 38 minutes.

Freshman guard Sierra Calhoun announced Sunday that she is transferring from Duke and is leaving school in good academic standing. The  Brooklyn native had started all 13 games this season for Duke and was averaging 10.1 points, 3.8 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.1 steals.

Does she end up at UConn?

NEBRASKA! We have a scholarship for her to have since the Page girls bailed on us.....  Maybe she was SO impressed with her experience here that she wants to come back to play for the rest of her career... :P

Speculation on their board is that she did not want to go and it was her parents' choice. There is also speculation that it was because their coach is bat sh$t crazy.

Duke's coach is bat SHI^ CRAZY?

That would be a GREAT addition to roster.
