Well, Harrison goes 50th overall to the Brewers.  $1.1 million slot.  My guess is he signs, but it's not the no-brainer it would have been had he gone in the first round.  I think July 18 is the deadline for signing.  Reetz didn't go in the first 2 rounds.   Tomorrow will be an interesting day.

Interesting choice for Harrison.  That is a lot of money to turn down.  Personally paying for an education (if that is important to him) becomes much easier.  I agree with you HB, my guess is that he is gonzo as well.  I am a bit surprised that Jakson wasn't picked in the first two rounds.  If those around do not know about him, here is a cool video.

Wonder what the percentage of guys making it to the show through college vs right out of high school? And then what that percentage is for guys from Nebraska?

I know that any 18 year old kid given a bunch of money and told they only get to play a game they love would take that in a heart beat. But they need to go watch some minor league baseball, ask about how it is and then think it through.

I think the two biggest shock they would get is, how good many of these guys are that have never been to even triple A ball, and how cut throat it is. It isn't about winning and being a "family", it is about being better than anybody else on the team and being sent to the next level.

If they think some guy with a wife and a kid to two is going to be your buddy, yeah right. First of all your a kid, second you might have signed for more than him, and third he has mouths to feed and a roof to get for his loved ones. He isn't going to help you get much better if it means he isn't going to go anywhere.

Tough choice for any body. Let alone an athlete. Because any athlete worth anything always thinks they can play.

Sure sounds like Reetz will sign with the Nats.

Anything else to add? I haven't heard anything on the situation.

Just piecing together his quotes after being selected, plus his slot of about $575,000 bonus.   Discouraged after not being picked in the first 2 rounds.  "You obviously want to go as soon as possible but I'm extremely excited about the way things turned out".  About being picked by the Nats:  "I'm pretty fired up about it because they have some really good players".  "I feel blessed I was selected in the draft".

Just to me like a guy who can be signed.  Still said he had a big decision to make, etc. but it just has the feel of a guy who will go pro.

Pro ball is nothing like you portray it here. It was very much a family atmosphere. No one wishes any ill will based on play and the majority don't care about how much someone signed for, they just care how much you can help them win. Also he will end up in rookie ball so that means guys that are 17-22. He will have a blast assuming he really loves the game.

Seroiusly? I had heard it was tough and very cut throat. Thanks for clearing up that.

Overall I'd say the draft was pretty kind to us.  I expect Reetz to sign which will be too bad.  Kelly will be interesting, I don't think he will be offered much but he was drafted by his hometown team.  I have no inside information but I have a sneaky feeling that Bummer will probably sign even though he went low.  Crossing my fingers we get both Kelly and Bummer back.

You'll probably need more than crossed fingers:

Kelly: "They're the team I grew up watching and following, so this is pretty cool".

Bummer: "It is such a thrill to know I have a chance to play pro baseball. And anything can happen, but I'm leaning toward signing with the White Sox right now."

But I agree the draft was pretty kind to us. We likely only lose Reetz among incoming baseball recruits (plus Harrison, a football recruit). Only Kelly and Bummer among current players, worst case scenario. Glad to have Sinclair, Kubat, Roeder, Darby back among those who received draft speculation.

Looks like Bummer signed yesterday.  That's unfortunate, but IMO he underperformed this year for us.  He is replaceable, we just need some of the young arms to step up.  I think Kelly is probably a goner also but hopefully playing with your cousin again and the chance to have a great team year will pursuade him to come back.

I will be shocked if Kelly doesn't go.  It would be like me being drafted by the Cubs.  It is hard to pass up on your dream.

I am on the fence regarding Jakson.  He appears to enjoy personal challenges.  He may be the type that believes he is going to be much improved in a couple of years and would rather spend his time in Lincoln then in the bushes going on bus trips.  That bonus looks good, but if he believes his talent is still being refined, he may want the Huskers to develop it.

CWG, your thoughts make all kinds of sense, it's just hard to get by his quotes made after the draft.

I know, the quotes lead me to believe one thing, yet there is something in the back of my mind that provides that conflict.  The dude can play...I kind of despise Norris, yet you cannot get over the talent that he has displayed since he was a young lad.  He is the best from the Lincoln area since Mr. Gordon...and what did Mr. Gordon do...he played for a couple years at dear old NU and then fast tracked it through the upper minors to KC.

Excellent points, and I hope Jakson and his parents at least have an open mind in considering the options. It did indeed work out well for Alex, as an example for the Reetz family to consider.

The dude can play...I kind of despise Norris,

Can I ask why? I just ask because I went to Norris and I think most people in our area get that same feeling. Its like everyone, even their own fans, don't like Norris.

I went to school with Reetz for a few years, and he is a great guy. Got a great head on his shoulders, which is different than some of the other guys on that team. I wish nothing but the best for him, and I have no idea which way he is leaning.

Haha....it is because my kids went to, played for and graduated from Pius.  Norris was a rival...plain and simple.  Despise was likely misused a bit.  I certainly respect Norris.

Understood. That's a huge baseball rivalry

Smart decisions being made by every player so far.  If I were advising Harrison, Reetz, Kelly, and Bummer I would have told each of them to sign.  For each individual case its the best scenario possible for them at this time and for the future.
