HF_ Posted May 15, 2014 Report Posted May 15, 2014 Not sure if this has been mentioned here yet or not, but Tyronn is rumored to be a potential target for the open head coaching spot with the Knicks. If that happens, what a way to get baptized as an NBA head coach.http://espn.go.com/new-york/nba/story/_/id/10937456/new-york-knicks-relaunch-coaching-search-losing-steve-kerr doc1394 1 Quote
Huskerpapa Posted May 16, 2014 Report Posted May 16, 2014 Sounds as if he is possibly one of three possible candidates. If this could happen for him, he would be able to mentor under one of the best. Quote
HuskerFever Posted May 16, 2014 Report Posted May 16, 2014 Couldn't be more excited! Rooting for him! Quote
AuroranHusker Posted May 16, 2014 Report Posted May 16, 2014 Link isn't working at the moment... hope the head gig works out for Tyronn. He's been considered a rising star under Doc Rivers' tutelage. ESPN analyst & former NBA head coach Hubie Brown was gushing over Lue the other night during the LAC-OKC telecast. Quote
TheKamdyMan Posted May 16, 2014 Report Posted May 16, 2014 Remember he played under Jackson in LA so there's a familiarity with him. HuskerActuary 1 Quote
Huskerpapa Posted May 16, 2014 Report Posted May 16, 2014 If this is the same article that I read, the mentioned candidates were Lue, Luke Walton and Derek Fisher. Of course Fisher would have to retire. Now that the Clippers have been eliminated, we should soon see if this rumor has any legs. Quote

Wanted: NY Knicks head coach Qualifications: Has played for Phil Jackson secondary qualifications: May lose best player in the off season, must be able to deal with immediate frustration and not cry. Must be able to understand that the Amare Stoudemire that is currently on your team is merely the awkward deep voiced cousin of that Phoenix Amare Stoudemire. Tyson Chandler will grow a gross beard throughout the season...deal with it. JR Smith will try to make you mad...dont give in this is what the court jester wants Quote
Handy Johnson Posted May 16, 2014 Report Posted May 16, 2014 I would much rather see him get the Lakers job, but the lure of the Zen Master might be too strong. This also begs the question, just how much coverage would the Knicks get if they were actually any GOOD? Quote
Donkey Posted May 16, 2014 Report Posted May 16, 2014 The Knick are horrible and still receive more than their fair share of pub. If you doubt that, please tell me who the top candidates are for the Minnesota Timberwolves HC vacancy? It is not surprising Jackson is going after Lue or Fisher. I admit this thread is the first I have heard about Luke Walton. Jim Clemons and Mark Jackson were the other names I had heard. Lue and Fisher both make sense. The Knicks are already projected to be $25 mil over the projected 2014-2015 cap and about $15 mil above the tax cap assuming Carmelo exercises his player option. That means if Carmelo opts out and signs with another team without a sign and trade deal, the Knicks will still be over the cap. This means the Knicks will only be able to sign players for the league minimum (I believe all exception money is locked up with JR Smith). Worsening matters, the Knicks have no draft picks in 2014 (a part of the Carmelo deal), no second round picks in 2015, 2016 and 2017; and have to swap 1st round picks with Denver in 2016. Stoudemire, Chandler and Bargnani's contracts (slightly over $50 mil in salary) all comes off the books at the end of the 2014-2015 season. In theory, the Knicks could sign 2 superstars to go along with Carmelo (assuming he resigns with the Knicks); however, the last time the Knicks did that, they ended up with Stoudemire's bloated contract. If I were Phil Jackson, I would flip Carmelo to the Bulls for Taj Gibson, Ian Snell and two 2014 1st rounders (Chicago's and Charlette's) (Chicago would have to amnesty Carlos Boozer). Then trade Tyson Chandler to Atlanta (who needs depth behind injury prone Horford) for John Jenkins and another 2014 1st rounder. That would clear out enough salary to get under the cap with three established role players and another three potentially good young players (James Young, Cleanthony Early maybe) and be able to sign 1-2 superstars in 2015. Assuming something along those lines occurs, bringing in someone like Lue or Fisher would make sense. The team would have low expectations and would surprisingly make the playoffs because the East is atrocious (it would not surprise me if half of this year's playoff teams regress). Lue or Fisher would have time to grow and feel their way through. When free agency hits in 2015, players will see a strong supporting cast and a HC who has won an NBA championship. Not a bad plan . . . assuming something like that is worked out. Quote
Huskerpapa Posted May 16, 2014 Report Posted May 16, 2014 It is being "reported" that Fisher is the number one candidate. Quote
Norm Peterson Posted May 16, 2014 Report Posted May 16, 2014 It is being "reported" that Fisher is the number one candidate. But he's scheduling a visit for LSU and LSU has "bag men." (By the way, every time I type "bag men" I envision guys with balls so big they have to waddle.) 49r 1 Quote
