Those are impressive numbers for sure regardless of competition level. The most impressive number to me just may be the 20 - 22 at the line....A big man that can make free throws is a huge asset. Cookie Belcher Posted March 1, 2014 Report Posted March 1, 2014 Holy shit. 13 blocks and 8 steals. Quote

Silverbacked1 Posted March 1, 2014 Report Posted March 1, 2014 Also saw 4 blocks. That is a stat line that will get you Mr. Basketball type of hype. Quote

doc1394 Posted March 2, 2014 Report Posted March 2, 2014 Hammond is, based on Rivals, the best recruit Nebraska has had in what, 20 years? First ever top 150 recruit. Yet based on this board, the expectations are extremely low. I think we all will be pleasantly surprised next year. Bangarang 1 Quote
Silverbacked1 Posted March 2, 2014 Report Posted March 2, 2014 Think maybe Tai year has caused many to question how good some new players are going to be. Bangarang 1 Quote

Honestly I think it's more based on the fact not many bigs can make the transition smoothly in year one unless they are extremely special. Plenty of bigs, even when ranked in the 150, redshirt or play limited minutes in year one so the expectations I think are more tempered for that reason. They are like OL in football to me. Takes some time for the ROI. AboveTheRim, HB and hhcmatt 3 Quote

Section_316 Posted March 2, 2014 Author Report Posted March 2, 2014 I don't think we really have any idea how much he will play. He could easily beat out Leslie by conference play for major minutes. Our staff knows how to help big guys get better, the proof is in the pudding Quote

The same goes for Rivers. Smith is OK. I don't want this to be a knock on Miles and his staff, I just don't believe we've proven we can develop big men just yet. If they had turned Vooch into a rotational big then I'd agree. I'm just not there yet, though. Quote
Section_316 Posted March 2, 2014 Author Report Posted March 2, 2014 I don't think vooch has a clue.... Look at ubel, look at pitchford.... Hammond is in good hands and will be a really solid player here imo Quote
lanigan123 Posted March 2, 2014 Report Posted March 2, 2014 Vooch is skilled offensively, not as a back to the basket guy. He is horrid on D. Slowest feet ever. I think Hammond plays. Quote
hhcmatt Posted March 2, 2014 Report Posted March 2, 2014 FWIW, Hammond is older than Fuller and Webster Quote
The Coach Posted March 2, 2014 Report Posted March 2, 2014 I'd be surprised if Hammond plays much next year. He doesn't play against good competition now and he looks pretty skinny to me. He'll need time to develop and adjust to Big Ten Basketball. Then there's this: Quote
GATA Posted March 2, 2014 Report Posted March 2, 2014 Even first-round NBA draft picks like Meyers Leonard need a full year to become useful players. As a freshman he averaged 8 minutes per game, and he's far more talented than Hammond. I'm going to keep my expectations low for Year 1. hhcmatt 1 Quote
