After the msu win, everyone talked abt a letdown, instead we pounded two teams in a row by 20 plus (not final score, but pounded them).  We weren't realistically going to win out,  this was a road game against a team who was projected in the preseason to be way better than us, and this was a team fighting for a nit berth......we just got beat tonight, we didnt play that good, but not fair to call it a complete let down, as  i think one of the previous two homes games were setup to be let downs but we responded......illinois was favored by 4 tonight so def not a letdown......

my 2 cents

huge dissapointement for the team, players and fan base......but again we should be favored in both our homes and first rnd big ten game ...we win the 2 home games and the first round big ten game, and that could potentially setup a one game playoff to get into the dance by winning our 2nd rnd game.

I have a question, is there any chance in hell, that if we beat northwestern but lose to indy and wisky, that 2 wins in big ten trny could get us in, since we would be fresh in everyones mind?

Yes I think there is at least a decent chance.  It would be a big win in the quarterfinal game over either Michigan St, Wisconsin or Michigan most likely.

Chances are probably close to 5-10% with a loss to Indiana and Wisconsin. 19-14 just really doesn't cut it.

Yeah you are probably right.

Realistically we are ahead of where everyone wanted to be and thought we would be right now. We are... For the most part barring a complete collapse, an NIT lock. Who would of taken that with three games to play at the beginning of the season?

thats a typical husker basketball response,  at some point it just isn't satifying enough

Really?? Its year two. I'm not settling for the NIT and neither should the team. You got to look at the positives man.

My goal every year for all of my crappy teams I root for is to win the championship.  I am ultra competitive though.  In NCAA basketball you cannot do that unless you play in the tourney that determines that champion.  That is why the NIT does not do it for me for some reason.  But I completely understand and appreciate those that would consider it a good year in the 2nd year of the Miles era.

That's how I read it.

idc that its yr 2,  i heard that for collier and sadler 5 yrs in a row each, its yr 2, now 3, now 4............i agree that miles is a great coach and this was an overachieving season regardless if we lose out from here,  iwould have thought 4 conf wins was decent earlier.....but the point is you can't waste an opportunity, what if petteway goes to the nba or gets hurt,  what if miles goes to a bigger school,  i dont think either of those are very likely but still we had and still have a great opportunity and i just dont want this fan base to settle for the nit just yet,  because in all reality the nit is BARELY better than no postseason at all, even if you win the whole thing,  the event just takes such a back seat to the real trny, even more so that crappy bowl games do in football.....you cant honestly argue that with a straight face

You're a bit all over the place.  This thread is called "Not a let down night" and every reply since has been about being let down.

Before you're were expecting 4 conference wins and now the team is a disappointment if it doesn't make the NCAA?

Is our goal the NIT in any year?  No.

However, is our goal to make the NCAA tournament and not win a game?  No.  That's why if we don't make the NCAA tournament, the NIT is vital in gaining tournament experience for a team that brings back everyone next year.

thats a typical husker basketball response

Fran McCaffery has Iowa on track to make the NCAA tournament in year 4 after the NIT last year.  Miles is on a similar track but I think he does it in three years or less.  Is this not an acceptable level of growth for a program?

It's ok to be a football fan who only sort of cares about the other sports teams when they're not winning.

I'm the same way when it comes to baseball. I hope they win and sort of follow it but only really care when they're winning.

Okay I'll ask this question then.

Which is better?

1) NCAA get blown out because of our seed.

2) NIT good run maybe win it, at least get to New York for final four.

3) Stay at home and go recruit.

I say 2 for me. I know our team and fans want to get to the NCAA, but I think this team needs to play as many games as they can.

I mean really most of us were thinking maybe the CTI at the beginning of the year and maybe the NIT if we got hot.

What we really need to do as fans is 24 hour rule this one, and rest those voices for Saturday. They will need us, for the energy and to show them that we still love them even if they are dashing our dreams( that dashing our dreams part was a joke:))

Actually, I'll take NCAA blowout loss out if those are my only three choices.

I get your point and I think that any post season play will be valuable, but going to the dance is a mental prep that can't be duplicated at the NIT.

Me too. I think playing as many games as possible is important but in the NIT you're going to be playing decent teams, but teams we feel we should beat. If we get in the NIT it's gonna feel like we deserve a deep run and sets up for major disappointment if we lose and that doesn't happen.

We are already planning the summer trip for more games. I'll take the NCAA blowout loss. Let the guys taste it, gain experience being there for the young team, and develop a hunger to return and do better.

Then after the loss we tidy up recruiting, everyone goes off to work on their game, the pieces of the young team improve, Tai hits it real hard, Pitchford adds to his game and improves, everyone gets better. Then we add a couple key pieces and head off to Australia or wherever they're planning to go.

It is crazy to think going to the NIT is better than making the NCAA tournament.  Recuits want to go to a school that plays in the Big Dance.  We don't need more games, we need to end the streak of not playing in the NCAA tournament.

Forgot about the summer trip.

Still we hear so much about how we looked so bad on the big stage, I know mostly football.

I really don't care as I can't influence the outcome any way just wanted to hear from others on it.

Now if we get in the NCAA and play well that wipes out all the other 3.

didn't kentucky lose at home to robert morris in the first rnd of nit last yr?  that just goes to show  how big of a buzzkill the nit is,  not interested tourney is what it stands for

They lost to Robert Morris at Robert Morris.  I think it was because the NCAA tourney was being played at Rupp.

For a school thats NEVER won a NCAA game and not been in 16 years its a no brainer and no one should say anything else.  You want as many chances possible to win the one game you've never won before.  You dont take less to gain experience.
